Helloooo Mr. Grey!

If you include the films I re-watched, I did end up watching more than a film a day. Oh, my

Oh my indeed.. oh me oh my oh me!! :D That is one for the record books. I bet it was a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed *Godzilla*. I love the "silence" of the film. It adds so much to the film.... I do have a soft spot for some sci-fi flicks, even though it's not a genre I go crazy for

I have to say that I agree.. there is a level of almost "art" to some of the moments in that movie as I recall. And I thiink of all the Godzilla "versions" it is likely the better one out there. (but ha.. then again.. some of them are just too silly to be taken seriously.. still they are a lot of fun, though)

I am on again, off again w/ sci-fi. I do enjoy some.. but it really just depends a LOT on the story and characters all mixing together well. (and it does help that I am an FX junkie.. ha. I do like a good sci-fi w/ well done fx in it)

Last year, in the 3rd grade class I worked in, they studied different types of "genres" for stories they were reading and one was Science Fiction. They even had a unit on movie monsters w/ it.. and Godzilla was the "star" of the unit. ha. The teacher I worked with knew I was a classic movie buff so she asked me what I knew about youtubes for Godzilla and ha.. she happened to get lucky because he IS after all a fave of mine.. but she did not know it at the time.. anyway.. I shared my favorite one with her.. so she showed it to the class.. they absolutely loved it. ha. It was a big hit.. and wowsa.. for one brief moment.. I was COOL for 3rd grade. ha.

And THEN to top it all off.. they read a great science fiction story to complete that unit.. little did I know.. there is a MOVIE for that story too.. if you liked Godzilla.. you need to check out this one for sure. :D

:D

*Deadline at Dawn* is a darn-near perfect film. It's a romantic film noir, which I love. I love the idea of two different people falling in love and doing so over an evening. I love the "secret" in the film. It's a great twist, one that makes the film all the more romantic. I also find the film to be very suspenseful

I am keeping an eye out for this one.. it really does sound like a good one to watch. That is the great thing I have found from hanging out here.. I get good tips on good movies to watch all the time. (sometimes even YOU give me some.. ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ) :P

*I Know Where I'm Going!* is one of the best films I have seen about the meaning of love and marriage. It's very much like *The Quiet Man*. Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger are becoming great favorites of mine. They are one of the greatest at establishing mood and feel. It has been an important "character" in the films I have seen of theirs. It slowly overtakes you. *I Know Where I'm Going!* is brimming with atmosphere. Even the supporting cast is really there for atmosphere. Such a sensual film

Well this one is on my "gonna watch soon" list now.. I have heard from you and Miss G both on it.. and I think I need to make some time and get to it. I don't know why I put it off til now.. I just for some reason have overlooked it. I will hope to get to this one soon.

*Gunga Din* is one of the best "action" films from the classic era. It actually has a modern feel to it because of the action and how the leads interact with each other. It's such a fun film

And this one was quite the surprise for me to see it so high on your list.. I know you are not overly fond of the whole "bar room brawl" thing.. and even though there is not much 'bar room" there is a lot of "bar room brawl" feel to this one in places. ha. Still.. it is an excellent story. I am glad you found it so much to your liking.

The film reminds me so much of *Hondo*. I wonder if it's Charlton Heston compared to John Wayne

I do see some comparisons to Hondo for sure.. but I don't even put WP on the same level as Hondo (not even close for me) And while I DO confess I like the Duke more.. I don't think necessarily that is the WHOLE reason.. ha. (did I ever mention my 7th grade CRUSH on ole Chuck??? ha.. OH yeah.. big time.. but ha. I DID get over it.. somewhere along the line.. not long after 7th grade.. ha) Still I do like him in many films. I just for some reason can't get as deep a love (in my long term memory) for this one as I do Hondo. I am sure if I see it again I might be able to be more specific as to why.. I just think the things that work so well for me in Hondo do not match up for Will Penny.. ha.. what can I say.. I am UN-predictable that way, I gues. :)

Yo Grey Dude.. I am watching your Cary Granite (ha.. you can call him Gary if you want to) and Ethel Barrymore movie on TCM right now. (I missed the very beginning.. and my TCM schedule is all screwy this morning so I don't remember what it is called... (and my head hurts too much right now to scroll back a gazillion pages to find the title in here.. bah!)

But I just wanted to say.. I can SEE why you liked it. (if I am remembering correctly that you did.. ha.. ) It really is a very compelling sort of story so far...

Oh, *None But the Lonely Heart* ! That was suggested to me by kingrat and also Jackie. It's really good. I think you'll end up liking it. There's a lot of love in the film. A good "mother/son" story.

And your *Gunga Din* is on after it, Sick Girl.

Also, to let you know, I asked for and received two of your film suggestions for Christmas this year. So there was a "Quiet Gal" aspect to my Christmas day. I will be watching one in the next group of films. I wanted to watch it last so that it would be the freshest. The problem is, I wanted the "group" to be around 20-25 films. Well, I'm already up to 35. So it's gonna have to be # 40.

I hope you and your daughter get well soon. It has been a tough year for the flu.

I hope you are enjoying Gary Cranite day, I can't think of a better movie star to watch while sick. He's bound to make you feel better

Ha.. thanks Jackie.. I only got to watch through Gunga Din..alas. The kidling took over the remote and we ended up with some Disney instead.. ha. Then a cutthroat game of Wheel of Fortune on the Wii ensued. (And whew.. I emerged victorious.. ha. Its the only wii game where I even can PLAY let alone come close to winning.. ha)

Still... it was fun to get to see at least a couple of Cary's today... I mean Gary's.. ha.. No I mean Cary's.. in between the doses of Tylenol. ha. :)

I'll send over my private nurse to help

Ha! Thanks!!!!!!! But I better pass.. ha.. at least until I stay fever free for a while so I am not contagious.. I just HATE to spread germs.. even if she IS a nurse. ha. Jimmy Durante will go to kissing on her.. and he might catch the flu too. Now THAT would be a crying shame. ha. :D

PS Miss Maven.. enjoy Mildred's cake. I think 10 slices sound just about right! :)

((( *SPIT* - *TAKE!!* )))

WOW! I just had to opt out of a game of Cribbage with Mrs. Biederhof, and walk almost all the way to the restaurant after one Mr. Monty Beragon got fresh me with on the Pacific Coast Highway. I should have known something was up with his offer to drive me to the party. I had to jump out of his sedan three miles from Mildred's. He sped passed me as I was walking( ...he's probably already in a booth with a tall highball ) but a nice young man named Ted picked me up and dropped me off. I think he'd make a nice boyfriend for Veda...but I'm no Cupid. What'd I tell ya. See...Monty's already there.

So I apologize for being a little tardy, but now that I'm here, I am ready to partaaaaay if you are Molio. Thank you for these engraved good wishes. Oh, I hope you don't mind but I invited Letty. After all, she baked some of these pies too.

Ha! CineMaven I'm just glad you made it.

Monty's already on his third highball and scoping the room.

Wally and I are going to try and coax you, Letty, Mildred, Ida,Veda and Mrs.Biederhof (yes, she showed up too!) into doing a rousing medley of Bei Mir Bistu Shein, Why Don't You Do Right? and The Man That Got Away later on tonight. So drink up!

After the party I'm going to try and catch up on the conversation here! :)

Ro, va bene? Did you get a flu shot this year?

I'm really fascinated by this in-depth discussion of MILDRED PIERCE. As I say, I do feel very sorry for Bert, and think he's been treated unfairly by Mildred, who, despite her business sense, has the mind of a child (even Veda tells her, when Mildred expresses shock over Veda's venality regarding Ted, to "Grow up!", an interesting mother-daughter reversal, to say the least) and is incapable of being supportive of her husband when he's going through job instability. Bert's had bad luck but I never felt he was unreliable. Do we know how long he's been looking for work? Bert's not some lazy bum. But Mildred is impatient, and Bert feels betrayed.

> oved marble mouth's accent, lol! and the way he says "Hana-Ogi" was to me, one of the funniest things. he was amusing playing a basically simple man who really had never in his life reflected on things like race or wider implications for personal actions. it's why it's my favorite Brando movie, i find him very sincere and not as messy-complicated as he often is.>

As for Capri, people keep telling me it's overrun with Mcilhenny types. ("Look, Lloyd, the Blue Grotto! Isn't it marvelous!" -- Lloyd: "Give me the Carlsbad Caverns!")

Is anyone familiar with the site Virtual Pike? ("VPike" is all you need to click in) Put in any address and you can see your long-lost family home and street (I just took a trip down memory lane to The Bronx. Would you believe that our Chinese restaurant on Kingsbridge Road is still there AFTER 40 years? I wept with joy) I also just recently visited the entire city of Sorrento (down every lane!) and La Croisette in Cannes.

Ro, va bene? Did you get a flu shot this year

Hello there Miss B.. no flu shot for me.. ha. (I'm a poet and didn't know it.. ha) I know a lot of people swear by them., but I have never been one to get a flu shot. But then again.. ha.. I RARELY (hardly ever.. ever) get the flu. So I guess it was just my turn this time.. ha. Still... I wish the kidling could have NOT gotten it.. and it had just been me. She had a pretty rotten week this past few days.. but thankfully now is pretty much over the worst of it.

Alas.. I still have a ways to go, if she is any indication for how long it lasts) Blah..

And.. ALAS some more. ha... the poor QT seems to be headed down the GERM-an road with us now too.. ugh. He seems to be coming down w/ the cough and congestion and aches and pains.. but so far. no fever yet. Bah.. We are just one big GERMY mess around here.

Still.. it could all be MUCH worse. I know the flu is no fun for some.. and even MORE serious for others. As for me, I am very grateful to God for blessing us with things like Tylenol.. and Ibuprofin, Kleenex.. and ICE COLD Concord Grape Juice.. ha. It's all in your perspective.

Stay healthy everybody!!!!!

Flu shots don't work! Officially they're 60% effective, but I think they fudge those numbers.

We got flu shots. Like clockwork, I came down with it two weeks later. It screwed up my heart rhythm enough I had to spend a night in the hospital. Until I'm fully recovered, Masha has to be awake to monitor me while I sleep, which throws off our already odd schedules.

She signed up for enough classes to make this her last semester. It's too much, especially with her wrist not healing, but there's been so many delays, she wants it over and done with.

To make matters worse, her car died. It's awaiting a transplant, but the necessary part has been on backorder a long time (the shop has two other cars waiting for it). I recently rebuilt the carb on mine and haven't been able to dial it in yet, so it's a little quirky. She's been driving it, but she hasn't gotten the hang of sensing when it's going to stall.

And she finally came down with the flu.

Despite it all, we're both as happy as if we had common sense. Now that I think of it, we're happier, because if we were completely sane, we'd go crazy. :)

Have to sign off now. She's stirring, which means she'll be awake soon, and it'll be my turn to nap.

Hope the flu isn't keeping you down!
