butterscotchgreer
*Just have to let everyone know that ButterScotchGreer was a "hit" on TCM last evening on TCM.* Did you say she hit everyone at TCM last evening? Oh, wait. No, that's Snippy.GASP!!! I'll have you know, I never hit anyone! I'm a good girl! So is april! *Her videoblog of the Journey to Hollywood was a fun prelude to her being interviewed by Ben Mankeiwicz.*I was not expecting to see her interviewed by Ben! She did great! My favorite part was what she and then Ben said about her hug for him. Classic Ben. And classic Sweet T, too. Hey! He said he liked my hug! He even gave me a kiss on the cheek after the interview! SueSue got a picture of it. heehee!*And she thoughtfully spoke of her friends from the Message Boards here who have been her Classic Film Companions since she was 16.* You must of boozed her up the moment she landed, Kylefornia! No, he didn't! Kyle is a perfect gentlemen unlike SOME people! *I hope everyone caught it.* It really captured BitterSourGreer. Her pouting, her snobbery, her strangling, her annoying Greerness. I wonder if Ben will need a vacation just as Robert did after Miss G slapped him. Twice! You would think TCM would learn to avoid giving girls from Texas any airtime! [/b]Who are you calling a snobby, annoying Texan!? How rude! Heehee!
butterscotchgreer
Kyle, thank you for posting my segment! I didn't think all of you would actually watch it, how loverly this is!! I seriously thought that i would be too giggly and blushing the whole time, but i didn't even know that Ben would be the one interviewing me until the very last minute when they said, "Surprise!" I was like," Oh, okay! I can deal with that!" Heehee! Thank you to all of you for the sweet comments! <3 <3 Wendy!! She gave a Hollywood wave (in her long gloves) and blew a kiss I think. Very Loretta Young. Hello Gorgeous! AWWW!!! I should have blown a kiss to the camera! Darn it! Heehee! No, the camera guy told me to strike a pretty pose. I thought he was just taking a picture! I didn't think he was videoing it! I did go to the Loretta Young exhibit at the Hollywood Museum...I was probably in a coma for a full hour, looking at her Oscar and all her dresses. Whew!! I'm surprised i could breathe! And don't you forget that i still have those gloves, frankie! So there!
butterscotchgreer
Jack, your post gives me the feeling that a My Fair Lady discussion is about to occur! Oh please let this happen!!
butterscotchgreer
Oh, yes, I can definitely see Loretta in Baby T. there! Those white gloves are the perfect touch. Did Omar Sharif show up, by the way? Bronxie!! How'ya doing?! You know, I was looking long and hard for him to show up, but he never did come! Cher did take the place of Barbra Streisand and I was SOOO hoping to see Babs there too. Oh my goodness!! But It was very pleasant to see Cher. She had a lot of loverly things to say with Robert in introducing Funny Girl! William Wyler's daughter talked with Robert before Cher came out on stage and she read a letter from Barbra about Funny Girl playing at the Festival. I almost had a heart attack! Heehee! I'll have to post a lot of the pictures and videoes i took so y'all can see them. I think you will like them!
JamesJazGuitar
Well I'm sure we all know the issue here with MFL: Should the studio have signed a big name star (Hepburn), that could NOT sing instead of a Broadway star that could really sing for a musical. The fact that Andrews won for best actress that same year indicates that the studio made a mistake. Instead of being known today for launching Andrews film career they are known for making one of the key blunders (as it relates to musicals), in movie history. butterscotchgreer
You know, i would be inclined to agree fully with you here. I LOVE the film version of My Fair Lady, but i do think the studios made a HUGE mistake in casting audrey for it with such a large singing part. I mean, I think Audrey is brilliant in any film, but Julie had the acting down AND the singing. It flustrates me to just think about how much greater it probably could have been with her cast. There was a young girl at the festival that I actually talked to about this very subject at the screening. I do love watching it, though, for the music, sets, dresses and choreography. I think it was Theodore Bikel, at the festival, who was quoted saying, "Rex Harrison was the best talking singer anywhere!" heehee! That just tickles me. Marnie Nixon did a great job with the singing, though, you do have to admit, even though the dubbing was a little off with the correlation to Hepburn's mouth in a few places. And you could also tell when Audrey started off a song with her real voice, and then they steered straight into Marnie's voice. It is so obvious! The studios did that with Deborah Kerr too and I never could undestand why they did that so much. What's even more confusing is that they dubbed every part that Vera-Ellen did in a musical. She was cast in sooo many musicals for her dancing ability, but they had several different singers dub her voice. That confused me big time as a child. In one musical, Vera's voice is quite low, in others it's higher. It's so weird.Another great example is Angela Lansbury's character in The Harvey Girls. She had an oustanding voice that they used in The Picture of Dorian Gray, however, something happened that led them to dub it for The Harvey Girls? Why in the world?! Bronxgirl48
Hi, Sweet T! You are by far the greatest star --- looking so fabulous! (Maybe Omar was playing bridge, lol...) You remind me of one of Whit Stillman's elegant young debs from his 1990 METROPOLITAN. (I love that movie) Bring on more pictures and videos! By the way, are you a Deanna Durbin fan? I adore her voice, and now, with her passing, am going to re-assess my opinion of her as a dramatic actress by checking out CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY, which I just found on YouTube. I can't wait! A DD noir of all things, and with Gene Kelly as a psycho!

JamesJazGuitar
Well in case you didn't already read it, I found out (via this forum), after I made that post that Morgan did NOT do the singing. The studio already had a recording by another singer and used that.

CineMaven
Hello ButterTea. Girl, I'm proud of you. And you should be doubly, triply proud of yourself. You traveled alone to a big, wild & woolly film festival. Were you able to navigate yourself throughout it all? Did you see everything you wanted to see? I've learned that with the festival, you might see friends the day before the festival, but once it starts, every one is off to the races, practically never to see each other again. Luckily we were able to do breakfast together. You were very natural and relaxed during your filmed segments on the way to the TCMFF-IV. ( Love the shot in the field. ) Did TCM provide you with the camera to film your segments? Did you give them the footage when you arrived in Hollywood? And then there you were...sitting with Ben Mank with a lobby full of people behind you watching the filming. You did good, kid. ( And who's that lady in the background with the hat? Why none other than the Board's own star: *SueSue.* You can't get better support than that!! ) How did that feel to be up there? You didn't seem nervous at all. And totally camera ready! I saw you on the Red Carpet in that vintage gown. You looked stunning! Was this the same girl I saw giggling through breakfast? No. You were so poised and worked that gown and looked different from anyone else I saw that night. Whoa! I had to say to people around me in the bleachers: "See that girl over there? I know her." You made friends too. I saw you with that young man with the white tux jacket and the lady with a beautiful copper gown. I have some video of your appearance on the carpet. When I get it together, I'll share it with you. Oooh, I missed you swing dancing on Club TCM's floor. I hope your traveling and festival experience was everything you hoped for. Congratulations! I think you need a new name besides Baby T. You were the belle of the ball! :-)

Heehee! I could just picture it! I have not seen the 1990 version of Metropolitan? Is it super good!?Bring on more pictures and videos!Yay! I have some really good close ups of Tippi Hedron!By the way, are you a Deanna Durbin fan? Christmas Holiday was an interesting movie. I just saw it on youtube as well! Fancy that! Heehee! I'm interested in your opinion on it, once you see it. It's VERY...different. But sooo good at the same time!I actually just interviewed a 90 (and a half) year old woman from England who came here in 1947. It's on a podcast with a few of my local friends. You can listen to it, if you wish, it is VERY fascinating with her recalling the war and everything! You might like it!she also recalls her love of Deanna Durbin! She is the cutest, and most vivacious 90 year old i have ever met! http://joespeople.com/302/

The girl you think is a floozy, but really isn't, because its your imagimation, that's who! You said you hugged everyone and that made him feel unimportant! I didn't mean to say that! I was really nervous and it just slipped out! I can't BELIEVE I told him that i used to have a crush on him either. I know you went to see On Golden Pond and The Narrow Margin right? what else did you see? The Narrow Margin was AMAZING on the big screen! I was totally blown away and Miss Jacqueline White was the cutest she could be! You were very natural and relaxed during your filmed segments on the way to the TCMFF-IV. No, TCM did not provide me with a camera. I took those all with my Galaxy S 3 phone. I gave them those segments as i filmed them over a period of a month or so. Christy looked outstandingly gorgeous in the audience, didn't she?! I think SHE is a star! How classy with the hats! she wore the most awesome hats all weekend and got lots of compliments! I saw you on the Red Carpet in that vintage gown. You looked stunning! Was this the same girl I saw giggling through breakfast? Glad you made friends along the way. It's pretty much the easiest place to make friends, waiting on line at the screenings. Everybody's very friendly on those lines. Now if they were on line waiting at the airport... that'd be a different story. Did you have fun?! I know you went to see On Golden Pond and The Narrow Margin right? what else did you see? I had loads of fun. Helping on that score was a group of gals I was hanging out with throughout the festival, who were lots of fun. I introduced you to some of them who are Greer Garson fans...BIG TIME.
