Bronxgirl48
Hi, Goddess! LOVED Margaret in THREE COMRADES! (forgive me for not responding sooner, but I've been continually falling asleep on the couch; I've got S.A.D always starting in a Florida autumn, and get very depressed and lethargic) I didn't boo-hoo as much as I thought I would because I wanted a more "lingering" ending, if you know what I mean -- I didn't think she'd take the action she did. I can't say enough about her performance -- it was very subtle and complex; nothing doom-laden or sentimental, yet filled with a weary, almost cynical acceptance of fate, but still hungry to seize the day and grab her happiness (and who better to grab than Robert Taylor, lol) while she could. I loved the relationship between the three men (Robert Young is a better actor than I've always given him credit for) and Pat. With the curse of being my mother's daugher, I was trying not to notice that even though it was supposed to be 1920, Sullavan was dressed in 1938 attire. I went out with friends this evening to a Mexican restaurant. (they wanted to cheer me up) Our Mexican waiter was a young Frank Sinatra lookalike; it was incredible. He looked like Ole Blue Eyes from about 1940. I kept expecting a crowd of teenyboppers to appear out of nowhere and start screaming.
Bronxgirl48
Because my mother loves Marilyn, she was planning on watching THE MISFITS, but at first thought she'd see something else: Mom: "I haven't seen THE MISFITS in a long time and don't remember it all that well, but I might watch Imogene Coca instead". Me: "WHAT??" Mom: "You know, the sister of the famous actor is going to be playing Imogene Coca tonight". Me: (clueless) "Mom, I don't know what program you're talking about. What famous actor??" Mom: "Oh, you know...Warren Beatty....Shirley MacLaine is playing Imogene Coca." Me: "How can Shirley MacLaine be playing Imogene Coca, it doesn't make sense to me...." Mom (laughing) "I mean Coco Chanel!!" Me: "Shirley MacLaine is gonna be Coco Chanel? I can't see it somehow". Watch THE MISFITS instead." Mom: "I will". She did and thought Marilyn was wonderful, and that she's an "underrated actress". Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
Bronxgirl48
My friend took me to a Mexican restaurant this evening to cheer me up. It did, more than she knew. Our Mexican waiter was a lookalike for a young (circa 1940) Frank Sinatra. It was positively uncanny, and I told him so; he was thrilled. I half expected a crowd of teenyboppers to come through the entrance screamng and fainting.
Bronxgirl48
You are not an onion! You are a peach! I don't know about sweet potatoes, lol, they certainly don't LOOK sweet; instead, they seem kind of witchy-looking, I can't explain it. Kinda warty. I don't know what I'm trying to say. It must be the two margaritas I had tonight. I'm a bit woozy. That and seeing Ole Blue Eyes as my waiter serving me chicken enchiladas. Bronxgirl48
Oh, I guess a peach is a fruit. Well you're a peach if that was the category. For a vegetable, you'd be a pumpkin, because they're so appealing and homey and cute.
Bronxgirl48
Hi, Minya! I've never had two margaritas in a row so I'm feeling a bit strange right now. I feel like Frank must always look. Well, we've got the letter 'J' coming up, for tropical storm Josephine. I wonder who names these things? I want that job!

Sorry to hear about your S.A.D., don't let it get to you, just try and get enough endorphins B-)
JackFavell
I watched Imogene Coca.... er.... I mean Coco MacLaine last night instead of The Misfits, and it was just as I had predicted it would be- pretty sappy stuff. But I had committed to watching so I slogged through. The costumes and sets were very good, and that helped me get through the movie. Shirley MacLaine was actually pretty good and enjoyable to watch. There were some really stupid Tango numbers thrown in, with bad 1970's sounding tango music- not period at all. The writing was stupid, and not too accurate, but it could have been a lot worse. And there was a cute guy who could act playing the part of Chanel's one true love. All in all, it was sort of like watching "Under the Tuscan Sun" or maybe "The Thorn Birds"..... Bronxgirl48
Our tastes in most things are totally different, but if I ever start to notice the hairs on an actress's upper lip, I'll know who's to blame -- my overly observant, Sherlock Holmsian mother. You think I'd be used to the weather here by now. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
Bronxgirl48
So you weren't cuckoo for Coco, lol? I had no idea this was on obviously, but from your description it sounds like what I would imagine it to be, sorta campy, maybe? Now Shirley's a good actress, but she'd be the last person I'd imagine for that part; it's got to be I think someone glamorous. (didn't Lauren Bacall play this on Broadway? Wasn't it a musical?) Keep mentioning UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN to Frank. It's his favorite noir.
Film_Fatale
I actually read something about the Coco Channel biopic on Lifetime but by then it was too late to actually watch any of it!
JackFavell
Shirley was fun, because she was just so snotty. It was refreshing. Under the Tuscan Sun? I should mention Under the Tuscan Sun? Did I mention it was like Under the Tuscan Sun?
Bronxgirl48
Now I'm sorry I missed it; sounds like it might have been fun in a kind of MURDER, SHE WROTE way.

JackFavell
UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN - Lifetime for Women Porn. Definitely laughing loudly right now! That is exactly what the Chanel movie was, too! I bet Frank has a copy of Under the Tuscan Sun.....it's right next to GWTW ....

rohanaka
a peach Well...my brain is fuzzy most of the time...that's sort of "peach--ish" and I am shaped about like a pumpkin--so that one might fit as well... :-) cute. ..now that one there is a stretch for me...I don't think I've been accused of that too often since I was a toddler! :-) But it's nice of you to say. I hope you are feeling better soon. Whenever I need a little pick me up...silly songs always seem to help. They really serve no other purpose but entertainment--so I hope this will make you smile...(It's probably my "favorite" REM song) :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkHM8xG6i8o
coopsgirl
*UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN - Lifetime for Women Porn.* You're cracking me up!! I used to be addicted to Lifetime movies. Then in '04 I started to watch more baseball and that took the place of LMN (Lifetime Movie Network). I can't even remember the last time I watched anything on any of the Lifetime channels but when I'm flipping through (usually to get to TCM) they look so silly to me now. JackFavell
Nah. It really wasn't that great. Boy, I would love to get some Chanel knock-offs. I used to have a tiered dress, like Chanel's 1915-16 style. It was beautiful- more of a work dress, no embellishment or anything, but three separate tiers, and ankle length- very WWI. It looked very much like the one on the left here, except not lace and three tiers instead of two: I loved that dress so much. I miss it!
rohanaka
Awesome video, I'd never seen that before We go around singing Furry Happy Monsters here from time to time...just for no other reason than it is fun. You'd have to be pretty steeped in Sesame Street culture to know that one, I am sure....but it's sort of "must see tv" around here. I was actually looking for a different song from that show when I went searching around on youtube...but it wasn't there...and this one was just as entertaining...so I went with it instead. Can't say I am huge on REM...but I do like this one!! :-)
Film_Fatale
Well "Sesame Street" hasn't been "must-see" TV here for a couple of decades or so, although I do remember having enjoyed it quite a bit at some point in time. However I don't usually get to see many of the stuff they do nowadays unless someone shares a link or something (like this one) B-)
Minya
The REM/Muppets clip inspired me (and I hope the link works). I don;t know if you're familiar with Weezer, but they used the Muppets in one of their videos and the result is hilarious.
