MissGoddess
Is that The Good Fairy?? What a darling movie! I don't even have it on dvd yet, which reminds me, I have to add that to my own list. So you got TWO Willie Wyler movies. Well, I can tell you, *The Good Fairy* is much shorter than *The Big Country* (so is Margaret Sullavan). Have you ever seen any Wyler movie? You did see *The Letter*, I remember CineMaven's thread now.
FrankGrimes
Is that The Good Fairy?? Very good. What a darling movie! I don't even have it on dvd yet, which reminds me, I have to add that to my own list. It's best to get the box set, although you already have one of the films in the box. So you got TWO Willie Wyler movies. I have seven of his films on DVD. Well, I can tell you, The Good Fairy is much shorter than The Big Country (so is Margaret Sullavan). Every movie is shorter than The Big Country other than the worst film ever made, Gone with the Wind. Have you ever seen any Wyler movie? You did see The Letter, I remember CineMaven's thread now. The Letter is the only Wyler film I have watched from start to finish.

CineMaven
MissGoddess: "Have you ever seen any Wyler movie? You did see The Letter', I remember CineMaven's thread now." FrankGrimes: " 'The Letter' is the only Wyler film I have watched from start to finish." I am utterly flattered that you chose this film as the one of his to see. I won't torture you like the rest of the old meanies do...but may I recommend some Wyler films for you to check out Frank. Some of them are real manly: * "Dodsworth" (making up for lost time) * "Jezebel" (willfullness) * "The Little Foxes" (human destruction) * "The Detective Story" (unforgiven) * "The Heiress" (unconditional love) * "The Children's Hour" (a love that dares not speak its name...but should) If you're not a Wyler fan Frank, at least you saw the film I wanted you to see: "The Letter" and for that I am grateful. MissGoddess
That's a Kino box set, as I remember it's ultra pricey which is the only reason I haven't gotten it yet. But I hope I do. I have seven of his films on DVD. And they are?

FrankGrimes
Good day, CineBabe -- I am utterly flattered that you chose this film as the one of his to see. I did watch The Letter because of your brilliant, emotional analysis of one of your favorite films. I won't torture you like the rest of the old meanies do...but may I recommend some Wyler films for you to check out Frank. Some of them are real manly: * "Dodsworth" (making up for lost time) * "Jezebel" (willfullness) * "The Little Foxes" (human destruction) * "The Detective Story" (unforgiven) * "The Heiress" (unconditional love) * "The Children's Hour" (a love that dares not speak its name...but should) Those are "manly" films? Are you pullin' the wool? Detective Story is the one that seems most manly to me. If you're not a Wyler fan Frank, at least you saw the film I wanted you to see: "The Letter" and for that I am grateful. Good afternoon, Snobby Snip -- That's a Kino box set, as I remember it's ultra pricey which is the only reason I haven't gotten it yet. But I hope I do. I got it during the Kino sale earlier this year for about $25. The Good Fairy is selling for $20.97 at Deep Discount and the box set is $34.97. You already have Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, so you would have to want the other films in the box, The Blue Angel (doesn't have the German version), Lured, and Love Me Tonight. I have seven of his films on DVD. And they are? The Good Fairy The Westerner Mrs. Miniver Detective Story Roman Holiday Friendly Persuasion The Big Country I have The Letter, The Desperate Hours, and The Best Years of Our Lives on tape. That was a good deal. I should have done that instead of buying Pandora by itself. I've done that sort of thing a lot. I'm sending off a batch of individual Hitch movies to my Mother that were in the set I just purchased. > > I have seven of his films on DVD. > > And they are? > > The Good Fairy > The Westerner > Mrs. Miniver > Detective Story > Roman Holiday > Friendly Persuasion > The Big Country > > I have The Letter, The Desperate Hours, and The Best Years of > Our Lives on tape. FrankGrimes
That was a good deal. I should have done that instead of buying Pandora by itself. I prefer box sets, so I will usually seek them out first. Although, I still make mistakes. I've done that sort of thing a lot. I'm sending off a batch of individual Hitch movies to my Mother that were in the set I just purchased. What a loving daughter you are. Thankfully, you are sending Elke good movies instead of Crappy Pappy and Poopy Coopy. My brother ends up with my singles if I get a box. By the way, I suggest you get John Wayne: The Fox Westerns Collection if you want The Big Trail. That is, unless, you already have North to Alaska, The Comancheros, and The Undefeated on DVD. You can get that box for $15.99 at Amazon right now. I have seven of his films on DVD. And they are? The Good Fairy The Westerner Mrs. Miniver Detective Story Roman Holiday Friendly Persuasion The Big Country I have The Letter, The Desperate Hours, and The Best Years of Our Lives on tape. And you've watched.......one. Tisk, tisk, shame shame. Yes, only The Letter. You still need to get The Heiress and The Little Foxes, they are great. But after you've actually seen some of the others, OK? I don't see me getting The Heiress and The Little Foxes any time soon. I've got other titles to get. MissGoddess
Thankfully, you are sending Elke good movies instead of Crappy Pappy and Poopy Coopy. I don't waste the good things on people with bad taste. By the way, I suggest you get John Wayne: The Fox Westerns Collection if you want The Big Trail. That is, unless, you already have North to Alaska, The Comancheros, and The Undefeated on DVD. You can get that box for $15.99 at Amazon right now. It includes the Special Edition 2-disc Big Trail? Because that's the one I want. I do already have North to Alaska. Amazon isn't so great a deal for me: you pay for shipping unless it's over $25 and because I live in New York I'd have to pay sales tax. I don't order from them anymore unless I have no other choice. FrankGrimes
I don't waste the good things on people with bad taste. Awwwwwww! Even you bad taste girls deserve good things. I suggest treating yourself to the 3:10 to Yuma remake DVD. It includes the Special Edition 2-disc Big Trail? Because that's the one I want. I do already have North to Alaska. Yes, it has the 2-disc version of The Big Trail. Features Closed Caption; ; The Big Trail 2-Disc Special Edition features - Disc One: Fox Granduer 70mm version of The Big Trail; Commentary with film historian/Author Richard Schickel; Featurettes - The Creation of John Wayne, Raoul Walsh: A Man In His Time, The Big Vision: The Grandeur Process, The Making of The Big Trail; Photo Gallery; Disc Two - Academy Aspect Ratio Version of The Big Trail; ; North To Alaska - Fox Movietonews: North To Alaska Premiere beseiged by Broadway Throngs; Original Theatrical trailer; ; The Comancheros - Fox Movietonews: Claude King and Tillman Franks receive Award for The Comancheros; Original Theatrical trailer; ; The Undefeated - Original Theatrical Trailers I thought you'd enjoy this... From DVD Talk: The Extras: The Big Trail two-disc special edition is the only title here with substantial extras. First, there's a feature length commentary track by Richard Schickel. Schickel always comes off to me as alternately bored and contemptuous having to discuss film - as if it's a chore to have to actually explain things to us mere mortals. He can lay off conducting these commentaries - filled to the brim with generalities - anytime he feels like it. Did you write that, Scarlett? It's a very nice cameo. He really manages to get Ferrris' sister to take a good look at her own motivations. And he looked good when he was that young, too! Film_Fatale
> {quote:title=Bronxgirl48 wrote:}{quote} > He was definitely hot! Yes, he definitely was. But Ferris Bueller was the smarty-pants bon vivant, which to me was slightly more appealing a character. Speaking of Matthew Broderick, I was very impressed with his performance in *Finding Amanda*, which just came out on DVD. I have mixed feelings about the movie itself, but he is definitely one of the best things about it. And of course it's a part that couldn't be more different from playing Ferris Bueller. (And, no, it wasn't me). How can that set be eligible for free shipping if it's under $25? I'm confused! And I still have to pay for sales tax. So it's only costing me $15.99 plus sales tax, is that what you're saying? Yes, I have to have these things spelled out. Of course, I could just look for myself. I have to confess I feel the same way about R. Schiekel. As for the amazon question, items that are elegible for free shipping will count towards the $25 minimum. But you still gotta buy $25 worth of stuff. There are items you can buy on amazon that aren't elegible, because they're sold by other vendors through amazon.com.
