The facial expressions suggest, to me anyway, that they are not in character. This could have been a between-take still, yes? Or is this screencap of the actual movie? No matter, a good pic of Liz and Darce.
butterscotchgreer
*I also love it when they sing "Fr?re Jacques"!* *When I was a little girl I listened to a lot of French children's songs, like "Alouette" and "Sur le Pont D'Avignon". So it kinda brings back old memories!* those are cute parts! i love how greer doesnt know what the words are, so donna "patsy" has to teach her. are there any other french songs you used to sing when you were little? butterscotchgreer
*Bonjour, Butterscotchgreer* *This is a good picture of these two. The facial expressions suggest, to me anyway, that they are not in character. This could have been a between-take still, yes? Or is this screencap of the actual movie? No matter, a good pic of Liz and Darce.* my own swasheroo!!! sorry i havent posted inP&P yet. its a long message. heehee im still working on it. actually the picture is a screencap from the original movie. one of the rare scenes where they are smiling before they kiss. heehee! it is from the scene when they are dining with Lady Cahterine Debourgh, Anne, colonel Fitzwilliam, and the Collins'. right when Darcy offers his arm to bring her to the dining room,, they smile for a brief moment and then Lady Catherine tells them they are to go with someone else other than each other. i love that picture so much! one of my fellow greer buddies says this is how he picture them in their married life after the movie ends. heehee! butterscotchgreer
*I loved the technicolor- Greer's hair was so gorgeously colored. I liked seeing Rhys Williams- he is a favorite of mine. I pretty much like any movie he is in. Ian Wolfe was not playing a butler, so that was really something different! The whole thing was very sweet, and shows what a couple of pros like Pidgeon and Garson could do with fairly standard material.* *I have unfortunately been falling asleep during every movie I wanted to see lately. My daughter coughed and coughed all night long so all I got were bits and pieces of movies. Stars in my Crown started out great, but then about the time that Alan Hale was helping Juano Hernandez rebuild his farm, Kay Francis and William Powell came around the corner, being chased by Warren Hymer. They were spending a romantic night, before going back to San Francisco to fight with Robert Taylor in the Civil War! I really have got to see a movie all the way through one of these days.* hey jackie!! i have always wanted greer's flaming red hair! i unfortunately only have red highlights in my hair and actually colored it to try and look like greer's hair, but it wasnt bright enough. heehee! i love Ian Wolfe too, but it is weird to not see him as a butler. heehee! you get to see his versatility! i hope your daughter gets well again! im so sorry she has been coughing all nights. i do hope you get enough sleep. JackFavell
My daughter is fine thanks, Greer! For some reason, I am the one who lost all the sleep! She seems bright eyed and bushy tailed.... Did you ever sing, "Napoleon Avait Cinq Cent Soldats"? It's like B_I_N_G_O. You sing it through once, then start dropping syllables at the end of each verse. So the second time through it goes: Napoleon avait cing cent sol_ _ _, Napoleon avait cinq cent sol_ _ _, Napoleon avait cinq cent sol_ _ _, Marchant du meme pas. I especially like when there is only Napo____ left......

Bronxgirl48
Hello, ro, thanks so much for your good wishes. Years ago I took a blood test for allergies. The doctor told me I was allergic "to everything" (including Kevin Kostner movies) but I never thought I was as bad as my brother, who suffered terribly, especially when our family went to Spring Valley in upstate New York for our summer vacations. He unfortunately had a bad habit of piling up his (used) tissues all over the house. I'll bet that's why our hamster died. But I won't elaborate; it's too disgusting. He was named Twinkles. (not my brother, the hamster). We had turtles. Three. Moe, Larry and Curley. I never liked to hold them because their heads reminded me of a snake's head. They always smelled murky. Like my brother. But I digress. Right before hurricanes, my eyes start getting watery and I sneeze. I also feel achy and irritable. You're in the Ragweed Capital of the U.S.? I'm in the Lightning Capital. A person here gets zapped every ten seconds. I'm still happily reverberating from the joy of Bob's great picks -- I find Kay Francis's films to be like potato chips, totally addictive; I can't see just one. I loved ONE WAY PASSAGE -- oh, my Lord, Kay and Bill, just gold. However, when Frank McHugh ran into the glass, I hoped it would be the end of him. Kay, bless her for that cross-ankled faint! This is star quality!! DEVIL'S DOORWAY, loved it -- Robert Taylor as a full-blooded Indian was believable; this must be one of his best performances, and oh that ending!! My fave Mann so far. (and up there on my best Western list) Dug THE TALL TARGET as well, offbeat historical fiction. I got lucky and was able to get home for all of STARS IN MY CROWN; Joel McCrea wonderful, nice characterizations -- I wanted to spend some time (like in a Twilight Zone episode) going back to live in that small sleepy town. Hi Sneezy-down-South! Do you at least feel relief after the storms blow everything away? I have a friend who's afflicted with allergies and only feels relief after it rains and clears up the air. I'm so glad you got to see see and enjoyed all those wonderful films. I hope you can eventually see JEWEL ROBBERY, you'll flip for it.

FrankGrimes
Howdy, Bronx Blossom -- I really liked what you wrote about last night's films. I'm glad you were able to catch them all, too. I'm sorry to hear you have been battling allergies. From the Internets: Christine Dugan lived 39 allergy-free years in California. Then, four years ago, she moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and within weeks was plagued by pounding headaches and chronic sinusitis. The diagnosis: Allergies to grasses, dust, and dust mites. Why hadn?t this shown up before? In California, Christine hadn?t been exposed to her particular triggers in any significant amount. Also, although she didn?t know it, the Susquehanna Valley area where she?d moved had been rated as one of the worst places for people with fall allergies. "My doctor calls my condition ?The Susquehanna Drip,?" she reports. Harrisburg is definitely one of the worst places in the States for allergies. The Spring and Fall can be killers for many. The Susquehanna Drip... or Dip, if you prefer.

Bronxgirl48
Hello, my noir boy. I'm better now, thank you, but won't feel out of the woods until December 1st. (storm season will be over) I have to wipe my nose, excuse me.....sniff...sniff....ahhhh. LOL What a satisfying night of Bob's Picks. (and thankfully not another showing of CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT, not that I don't love Missy and hunky Dennis and the New England atmosphere) I commented more about these four to Miss Goddess in Films and Filmmakers under "Movie Rambles") Did you have turtles and/or hamsters when you were growing up? Oh, wait a minute, you're still growing up. (well, so am I) I liked the way our turtles ate the lettuce, so slowly, with such reptilian finesse. But boy they reeked of....I can't describe the odor. Kind of funky and aquatic... I also hear sirens before and during thunderstorms. Why is this? Do you hear them too? Also before a heavy rain I get very drowsy, and then when it comes down I have a great sleep that night. When I eat fresh oregano, I get nightmares. I had Greek-style chicken a few days ago and dreamt that Kevin Kostner was chasing me. Onions give me an upset stomach, but pickles calm me down. FrankGrimes
A very warm Hitch good evening to you, Isabel -- Your post was very "Izzy." I'm better now, thank you, but won't feel out of the woods until December 1st. (storm season will be over) I have to wipe my nose, excuse me.....sniff...sniff....ahhhh. LOL Hopefully the worst is behind you. I'm speaking of your allergies, not of me. That nightmare is neverending. What a satisfying night of Bob's Picks. I'd say. What I like about Osborne's selections of late is that some are not shown frequently on TCM. The late night Anthony Mann film festival was terrific. (and thankfully not another showing of CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT, not that I don't love Missy and hunky Dennis and the New England atmosphere) I always chuckle over comments like this. Why? Because there are so many films that you have seen too often for your liking yet I haven't seen them once. I commented more about these four to Miss Goddess in Films and Filmmakers under "Movie Rambles") I have already read your ramble. It was excellent, as always. You're a wonderful writer who always speaks from the heart and head. That's my favorite style of writing. Did you have turtles and/or hamsters when you were growing up? Nope. Just a dog named Benji. No, not the rich one. Oh, wait a minute, you're still growing up. (well, so am I) I'm not going to grow up, either. I don't like grown-ups; too stuffy and self-important. I liked the way our turtles ate the lettuce, so slowly, with such reptilian finesse. But boy they reeked of....I can't describe the odor. Kind of funky and aquatic... There's a board member who probably finds that similar odor to be comforting. Do you know of who I speak? Here's a hint, she loves to be smothered in hugs and kisses. OXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX! I also hear sirens before and during thunderstorms. Why is this? I have only heard this once before. It happened on July 4th of 2007. We had a family picnic and all of a sudden, there was a siren in the distance. It was the kind of siren we had never heard before. We went inside to check the television and it turned out there was a tornado warning for our area. The siren actually alerted us to the potential danger at hand. Do you hear them too? Ohhhhh, I hear a siren all the time. Also before a heavy rain I get very drowsy, and then when it comes down I have a great sleep that night. That's very interesting. You're sounding rather sensual. When I eat fresh oregano, I get nightmares. What about garlic? :p I had Greek-style chicken a few days ago and dreamt that Kevin Kostner was chasing me. Seriously? You have the strangest dreams. Onions give me an upset stomach, but pickles calm me down. Are you in a constant state of pregnancy?

Bronxgirl48
My friend, my friend.....(btw, the black cat has been spotted again prowling near my apt) Are YOU the Headless Horseman? Stop invading my slumber. Precipitation just makes me want to SLEEP, if you get my drift. You're not missing anything with CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT imo. You're so full of it with your compliments, lol, I can't believe a word you say! Mainly because I know there are a select few brilliant posters (I won't name names of course) who are heads above my paltry critiques, believe me. Give me a lousy horror or sci-fi film, or something equally kitschy, and I can go to town and be amusing, but that's about IT. (of course I'm looking forward to the Halloween line-up) You had a pooch named Benji? Aww. He was spunky in the movies, wasn't he? I hate spunk. (you're too young to get that MTM allusion no doubt, as you were just a hatchling when the show was on) Do not speak ill of other posters. I want to hug and kiss them all. Except you. I enjoyed your family anecdote about the siren tornado alert. I'd like to hear more slices-of-your-life. (what little you have) I'm assuming your existence is a living nightmare so I understand why you aren't bothered by bad dreams at night. Funny you should mention a constant state of pregnancy. You obviously have seen the "Consider Her Ways" episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour on television. Excuse me, an alien is popping out of my stomach. It looks like you! Awwww, it's kind of cute, I think I'll keep it. Cue up: the ROSEMARY'S BABY lullaby. Yours, Hallie

FrankGrimes
My friend, my friend.....(btw, the black cat has been spotted again prowling near my apt) That's better than the Pincher, be it the prehistoric man or prehistoric crustacean. Are YOU the Headless Horseman? Stop invading my slumber. But don't you find the galloping hooves of my horsey to be soothing to your soul? And if I were the Headless Horseman, I know someone who'd like to go riding with me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0eK_OGyYGQ Precipitation just makes me want to SLEEP, if you get my drift. What about watching snow fall while cuddling in front of a fire? Does that precipitation make you want to sleep? Oh, and, uh, Kevin Coster is you cuddle bear. You're not missing anything with CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT imo. I have seen bits and pieces of the film. I kind of liked it because I like Missy in comedies. Oh, heck, I like Missy in just about anything. You're so full of it with your compliments, lol, I can't believe a word you say! Are you telling me I'm full of blarney? Mainly because I know there are a select few brilliant posters (I won't name names of course) who are heads above my paltry critiques, believe me. Give me a lousy horror or sci-fi film, or something equally kitschy, and I can go to town and be amusing, but that's about IT. But, you see, that's just it. You can take any film and make it interesting. Your fabulous personality always comes through in your words. There's a lot of honesty in your critiques. There are those who write just to write and then there are those who write with feeling, emotion, and personality. That's you. Humor is your forte. But even your silly is smart. (of course I'm looking forward to the Halloween line-up) Me, too. I do wish TCM would play more classic horror films in October, though. They should load it up. You had a pooch named Benji? Aww. He was spunky in the movies, wasn't he? I hate spunk. I love spunk! Give me a sweet girl with lots of spunk. Do those girls wear green sweaters? (you're too young to get that MTM allusion no doubt, as you were just a hatchling when the show was on) No, I didn't get the allusion. I rarely do around these parts. I've seen some Mary Tyler Moore in my life but nowhere near as much I should. I really like that gal. I like Rhoda a lot, too. Do not speak ill of other posters. I want to hug and kiss them all. Except you. Yes, please don't hug and kiss me. If you were to do that, I may turn into a prince and then I'd have to go to a snobby ball wearing snobby clothes and be with a snobby girl like Greer Garson or Buttersnobstinate. I'll stay a toad, thanks. I enjoyed your family anecdote about the siren tornado alert. I'd like to hear more slices-of-your-life. (what little you have) Ain't that the truth. My family is my life. I told you I was boring. I'm assuming your existence is a living nightmare so I understand why you aren't bothered by bad dreams at night. One of the luxuries of not having a head. Funny you should mention a constant state of pregnancy. You obviously have seen the "Consider Her Ways" episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour on television. Me? Watch something? I'll refer you to the Ice Goddess for that answer. Excuse me, an alien is popping out of my stomach. It looks like you! Awwww, it's kind of cute, I think I'll keep it. Cue up: the ROSEMARY'S BABY lullaby. This is what happens when one is ordered to "go to the Devil" as much as I. rohanaka
The doctor told me I was allergic "to everything" I took one of those needle tests where they inject all that nasty allergic stuff in your arm way back in the late 70's when I was a teen. If I am remembering right...they did like four rows of five on one arm and five rows of five on the other arm...then they also did the scratch test stuff on my back...(this sounds as horrific as I recall it actually being) If memory serves...I was allergic to everything they tested me for ...except like two or three things. But most of the stuff they said I had a problem with doesn't really seem to bother me much. (go figure) However...RAGWEED is the major offender for me. A few weeks ago I was working at a "cleanup day" at one of the lakes in our area. (we have a girl's scouting ministry that we just started recently at our church and this was our fist service project.) I was literally "wading" through an entire field full of ragweed at one point as the section they assingned for us to clean had part trailed walkway and part open field. I was absolutley covered in ragweed pollen and my eyes started swelling shut and I started sneezing and sputtering...by the time I got home I was a (worse than usual) mess. Ragweed needs to be outlawed...now and forever. Anyone caught allowing it to grow on their property should face stiff fines and be subjected to hard labor pulling weeds. (Oh--wait...first I better go check my own stupid yard...we have alot of plants and shrubs around...and I am sure there are some weeds mixed in...don't want to have to face any sort of penalty breaking my own law...that just wouldn't do!! :-) STARS IN MY CROWN; Joel McCrea wonderful, nice characterizations I saw this one too...really enjoyed it a lot. I am also interested in seeing the Tall Target...I read your post in Movie Rambles..it sounds "intriguing". :-) PS--They always smelled murky. Like my brother. Ha!! I have 3--count em' 3-- younger brothers. I don't know if I would have described them all as "murkey" smelling when they were growing up...but they did have their less than fragrant moments from time to time! Bronxgirl48
I've got the perfect woman to keep you in line: Now you really WILL have nightmares. Although it's too bad you don't remember the lovely Adrienne Barbeau. She's top-heavy with talent. Snow makes me sleepier than rain. When the elements are raging outside, I get a delicious sense of coziness and security huddling in front of that fireplace with Tom and Smithy, listening to Bing (either as Brom Bones -- love that video -- or warbling I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas) My romantic fantasies are more the outdoor variety, involving meadows and fields, on a lovely end-of-summer afternoon. I do miss my lost-weekend looking crustacean, but you'll do in the meantime. I highly recommend my namesake in THE LADY EVE. Wonderful romantic comedy, and Hank is very funny. ("Snakes are my life!") I'll be at 711 Ocean Drive tomorrow if you need to reach me. I'll slip you a glass key. I'll say good night now, noggin-less one. Lucia
