FrankGrimes
"Did you watch any of "The Great McGinty" tonight?" - FG Sure did. You? I did watch some of it. It's a film that has grown on me, just like the public marriage. Brian Donlevy is a joy to hear. He reminds me of Paul Douglas in The Great McGinty. "Cut with the applesauce." "That gink?" But my favorite has to be "It's Muggley Wump, the tor-toyse".
FrankGrimes
Hello, joltin' joe. Good evening, Mrs. Robinson. Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you. And then goes blind. Yes, the fog rolled in last night. The Captain was in a playful mood. I leave it to your imagination. Ghosts have more fun! You better not leave it to my imagination. Saw 711 OCEAN DRIVE for the first time today. Another winning Edmond O'Brien performance. His character is part tragic hero, part Ralph Kramden, lol, full of hubris and frustration, who through electronic smarts gets power hungry, falls in love, and meets his fate. Yet another film I have on tape but... I love your description. It sounds like a classic film noir. It's baffling how all these attractive broads are attracted to him, though, especially refined Joanne Dru, who is suffering under an unpleasant marriage to tailored but abusive Don Porter (effectively nasty) An abusive marriage can lead a woman into the arms of any man who actually cares about her. I have no idea if this is the case with O'Brien, though. CHAMPION was a bit old fashioned, what with the crippled brother (Arthur Kennedy can play this in his sleep) and the mother who thinks her son is "a good boy". But Kirk gives a charismatic performance. I didn't think the boxing sequences were compelling, but then what do I know; the only movie with this sport in in I like is HERE COMES MR. JORDAN. I usually like boxing films but I don't like the sport. The Set-Up is my favorite boxing film. Have you seen that one? And, you guessed it, I have Champion on tape but... I believe Ken commented on the choice of women for Douglas' character in the film in the film noir forum last year. That interests me. I'll leave you now, THE GREAT McGINTY is on. Hey, I've seen that one! I didn't make myself clear I guess (ironic since you keep telling me how communicative I am) about the snow and the rain. There's nothing more romantic than sitting and cuddling in front of a crackling fireplace But that's just the warm-up, so to speak, that's first and second base. Home runs are best enjoyed amid nature and grass and trees and blue skies and birdies a-twittering and the wind gently rustling the leaves, and the smell of roses and daffodils and lilacs wafting through the fragrant lush summer air. The communication was clear, the receiver (me) was cloudy. I did read your words correctly the first time but then I totally assumed I read something else. Why? I have no idea... I never do, so I'm told... often. Home runs anywhere would be fine and dandy, but I'm with you on preference. But it's all speculative to me since I'm a slap-hitter. Please, not THE SOUND OF MUSIC!! (now I KNOW I'm having a nightmare) I love Julie but this movie is not one of my favorites. Get those hills away from me, please! (I prefer the Pink Panther parody) Inuendo. You might as well admit your bedroom is surrounded by posters from HIGH NOON, RANDOM HARVEST, ANGEL AND THE BADMAN, and DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK. Sadly, I have seen all but one of those films. All the guys I know shriek with horror when Bea Arthur is mentioned. She's entertaining to me but I'm not looking for nature and grass and trees and blue skies and birdies a-twittering and the wind gently rustling the leaves, and the smell of roses and daffodils and lilacs wafting through the fragrant lush summer air with her. But appreciating Adrienne Barbeau re-establishes your manhood once more. I'm sure I'll unestablish it soon again. But....does Robert Taylor thrill you, not that there's anything wrong with that? Do you wish you were his squaw, in DEVIL'S DOORWAY? I posted my fear of Robert Taylor in Quiet Gal's "western rambles" thread. I'm afraid I'm going to find him boringly uncomplicated. I don't like shiny "empty suits." I prefer complexity.

Minya
*Who needs a red dress when you can have Nick Cave... two nights in a row?* Indeed. His onstage movements have left me a drooling idiot for the second night. So many impure thoughts. *So where are these tunes? Do I have to go find them, Easter Bunny?* Okeydokeyartichokey-of the stuff that he played, I will direct you to: Red Right Hand-You may be familiar with this tune. Hard On For Love-Go ahead and laugh-it's funny. A wonderfully filthy song phrased in Old Testament verbiage. You may be only able to find this live on youtube. Love Letter-Sweet and romantic Your Funeral My Trial-One of my all time favorite Nick tunes. I think there's a video. Stagger Lee-Off his Murder Ballads album. When you hear it you'll know why. Watch the video and see the entire band dance like they're ****. Fun! Loverman-It's just as well he didn't play this live-I'm uncertain what my reaction would have been. While none of these has beats exactly, I think they might will appeal to your noirish nature. Hope you like.
coopsgirl
OOOOOOOH, that screencap of Gary ready to fight has made my day!!! It?s on my desktop as we speak. I swear I?m really a pretty mellow person but I love it when Gary either hits people or shoots at ?em and he does both of those in lots of his movies :x. That man gets me all kinds of worked up (as if y?all didn?t know that already ).
butterscotchgreer
*Mais oui. Dites-nous donc la belle* *? O? donc est votr' mari ?* *Il est dans la Hollande* *Les Hollandais l'ont pris* *Que donneriez-vous belle* *Pour avoir votre ami ?* *Je donnerai Versailles* *Paris et Saint-Denis* *Les tours de Notre-Dame,* *Et l'clocher d'mon pays* *Et ma blanche colombe* *Qui l'attend jour et nuit* hey Michaela!! wow! that is a cute french song. i think i have actually heard that before. i have an old family friend, Joslyne, who is from France and she has watch me grow and when i was a really little girl she would sing me these french songs, b/c i loved hearing her sing them so much! if im not mistaken this was one of them! it feels so good to hear it again! she is such a sweetheart and every time i see her, i still love hearing her sing those beautiful songs...thank you for sharing it with me! now it will be in my head the rest of the day. heehee! hey jackie! *My daughter is fine thanks, Greer! For some reason, I am the one who lost all the sleep! She seems bright eyed and bushy tailed....* oh sorry! heehee! well you know i meant you. *Did you ever sing, "Napoleon Avait Cinq Cent Soldats"? It's like B_I_N_G_O. You sing it through once, then start dropping syllables at the end of each verse. So the second time through it goes:* *Napoleon avait cing cent sol_ _ _,* *Napoleon avait cinq cent sol_ _ _,* *Napoleon avait cinq cent sol_ _ _,* *Marchant du meme pas.* *I especially like when there is only Napo____ left......* i dont remember this one... but its cute! she may very well have told me this one though. thanks! do you know any others jackie? coopsgirl
*Home runs anywhere would be fine and dandy, but I'm with you on preference. But it's all speculative to me since I'm a slap-hitter.* Okay, that made me laugh out loud at work! Some girls might be into the slap hitter kind . I totally embarrassed Theresa one day talking about how dirty so many baseball terms sound; especially stuff like high, hard one and back door slider. Dirty baseball jokes, is there anything better? On a sad baseball note, my favorite (active) player, Brad Ausmus or as I like to call him Sugarbritches, is about to hang ?em up. He?s played for 15 years (10 with the Astros) and this will be his last year with the ?stros. His kids are still young and they live in San Diego so he wants to be closer to home. He said he?d play one more year if one of the teams out there wants him and if not he?ll retire. He?s 39 (old for a ball player) and has been a catcher his whole career and never once went on the disabled list which for any position is impressive, but for a catcher, it?s nearly unheard of. To me, he?s like the Gary Cooper of the team; he?s strong and silent but when he does speak it means something (he?s a Dartmouth grad) and people listen. He?s even tempered but will get riled up when it?s called for. He?s also incredibly good looking and very sweet. I?ve had the good fortune to meet him three times during fan events and at spring training and he?s always very gracious to the fans and like Gary, never acted like a big star above anyone else. His defensive play (he was never a very good hitter ) and leadership will truly be missed. P.S. Nobody could rock those shin guards or chest protecter better than my Sugarbritches! :x
MissGoddess
I love those screencaps from McGinty! Last night was only the second time I've seen the movie and I liked it even better. Terrific script for a heck of a subject. I love the "frame" for the story, the whole thing in Central or South America, or wherever they were. Running a bar, no less! Perfect.
