only I've got the one brother

Barb--There were times growing up when I would gladly have loaned you one (or all) of mine! :-) But truthfully...they are all stand up guys each and everyone. And I am very happy to claim them...at least most of the time anyway. :-)

I just got a call from a colleague who asked if I could take over her class tomorrow night. I told her I wouldn't be able to because of family matters.

In reality, I want to watch the final Kay Francis line-up.

Well....let's see.YOU are in your family. So I guess you could call it a family matter :-) This is what I used to call "constructive fabrication" and although I try not to practice it nowdays...I have to confess, when I was younger it was a specialty :-) If one of my brothers ever saw me with gum or candy and ask for some..I'd say "I got it from a girl at school" Technically true...and it worked like a charm. (at least til they got old enough to catch on) After that, I just had to tell them--"no get your own." (HA-at one point of my life...sharing used to be highly overated) But now I must be suffering paybacks because between the kiddling and her daddy...candy seems to disappear at a moment's notice...and yet somehow...my waistline might tell a different story. :-)

:D Imagine what all this says about me, that I can waste so much time looking for these!

Here's how I feel sometimes when I haven't had enough sleep...

Oh my sister I am right there with you!!! But alas...I am not nearly so cute when my head starts to bob. HA! I will have to show that one to the short person for sure. (she and dad are outside goofing off right now..but maybe can spend a little time on here again later)

We too spend more time than we should looking up stuff. In fact, the other day I was telling someone I work with about a Tennesee Ernie Ford song that used to crack me up all the time when I was a kid, and I said I wished I could hear it again...and up pops the kiddling with "You should look for it on You Tube!"

So--when we got home...I did..and of course it was there. (not the Tennessee Ernie Ford version, but someone singing instead) I think I have created a monster.

Ha!

I figure I'd rather look at YouTube than what's on most of the networks on television, especially

right now.

I have never seen T. E. Ford's show but have heard lots about it and seen clips. I know

Maureen O'Hara guested on it a couple of times. He had a beautiful voice. That's the

wonderful thing about YouTube, it's the only place to find some of these things. I'd like

to get my mother a computer and on the internet one day so she can get "hooked", too.

Yes, this may be true. But then again, think how much time you do not waste by thinking about something and not having the information available right at your fingertips. ;)

Well...I must confess that it is nice to have such access to so many things. (I have become far too dependent upon Google in my everyday life) But I worry about myself when I start to spend time trying to find....

Though in truth the Ernie Ford version is what I really wanted to hear. My dad had it on a record a long time ago. I can't even recall the whole conversation with my co-worker that led up to me remembering this song-I just remember that my brothers and I got such a kick out if growing up. :-)

Do you think it is bad right now? If Google has its way, pretty soon we'll all be using Google mobiles, and getting used to having Google at our fingertips at any moment day or night (except perhaps in the shower).

Oh and I think that's a very lovely song - but is it really originally from the 70s? Or is that just a version that was popular in the 70s?

originally from the 70s?

I imagine it is much older, but couldn't say for sure. The album my dad had was from the early 70's and it was Tennessee Ernie Ford singing all sorts of catchy tunes...some of the ones I remember were Turn Your Radio On, Proud to be an Oakie From Muskogee...and of course....Big Mable Murphy. (I don't think he was the original artist for any of these..but couldn't say for sure.)

Most of the time I thought my dad was torturing me when I had to listen to his music....but over time I have to confess some of it is better than I remember. Though this song here is probably one I would say was just for fun...my brothers and I used to joke around threatening each other with "two black eyes and knucklebumps on the head" Oh--the sweet memories of childhood!! HA! :-)

I liked it enough that I will check the iTunes store when I get a chance, I'd love to add it to my iPod. :x

Try to find Ford singing it if you can...he has a bit more "going on" with the melody and the backup singers are better...That version doesn't sound so monotonous as the one on youtube. (but again...my memories of this are about a gazillion years old...so it may not be as good as I remember) :-)

Exactly what I meant, dahlink! The Ford version is the one I'll be lookin' for!

Why, whatever can you mean? :D

I totally agree with your dad. I love TEF and haven't near enough of his recordings. I believe this is the album of which you speak:

<ahttp://www.ernieford.com/TEF-MrWords.jpg>

The lp was *Mr. Words and Music*

Track listing:

Capitol # ST-11001 // Released February 14, 1971// Side 1 : Daddy Frank (The Guitar Man) / West Texas Highway / Put Your Hand In The Hand / Take Me Home, Country Roads / The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Side 2: Big Mable Murphy / Turn Your Radio On / Mobile / Okie From Muskogee / Mr. Words And Music

Most if not all of these had been hits for other people.

Near as I can tell, "Big Mable Murphy" was written by Dallas Frazier, best known for "Alley Oop" and "Mohair Sam." His "Beneath Still Waters" was used in the movie Sunshine State. Not sure when "Mable" was written but Frazier was born in 1939 and most of his hits were from the '60s.

Ringtones available lol.

Hope FF will let us know if it's there on iTunes. I have no idea how much of Ford's extensive discography is available these days.

Everyone,

The vastly superior Kevin Brownlow-David Gill-Patrick Stanbury Photo-play Productions edition of WINGS is still tied up in an absurd "Legal Limbo", and thus not on TCM. When by all rights it should be the version that they are running.

Incredibly, however, this landmark movie is being screened, with a live orchestral performance of the Carl Davis score this coming February, in Wisconsin! If you want to see a beautifully restored, tinted 35 millimeter print of WINGS, not the murky old dubb TCM is forced to run, on the big screen, then here is your chance!

Film_Fatale,

Well, this is still a few months away. We will have to wait and see what develops. Never been to Wisconsin before, but they make the best Cheese in America! Meantime, I just sent you a PM.

I certainly haven't given up in my quest to get the Photo-play version on TCM. Apparently, there never were any American broadcast rights? Big deal! In 16 years that should have changed! Same with THE WEDDING MARCH! It all comes down to Paramount not paying Photo-play, and Carl Davis anything. Gaylord Carter is passed on and apparently has no heirs to speak of? That's why Paramount sticks with his version.

Mr. Words and Music

Tobitz--I am sure that has to be the album my dad had because after you listed all the songs...I remember every last one of them being on there. ( I just needed you to jostle those rocks around in my brain to find the right one!)

HA!!!!!!! I love Snoopy and Woodstock.

And Grey Guy....you would be so proud of the QT. He got me a much nicer toaster than I would have gotten for myself. Black and Decker...larger slots for bagels...a "frozen" setting. for waffles and such.

What sort of jelly did you say you wanted????

I also am the proud owner of a few new DVD's. I will report in later...almost time for supper. :-)

I had a lot of faith in your hubby treating you well. He knows you deserve it.

It's strawberry for me.

I also am the proud owner of a few new DVD's. I will report in later...almost time for

supper.

Enjoy your birthday dinner! I know that you will. You're with those who love you and

that will make everything all right.

Definitely let us know what DVDs you got.
