Google honors Dame Annie Jean Macnamara

An Australian medical doctor and scientist, best known for her contributions to children's health and welfare.

But is it me or is this book's title not exactly flattering.

It must be you.

When the queen knights a lady she's called a dame.

It's a high honor, I thought everyone knew that.

It was the Queen's Grandfather King George V who obviously bestowed this title upon Dame Jean Mcnamara in1935.

Famous British actresses who have received this honor are:

Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Helen Mirren, and Dame Judi Dench.

Sorry but I never have, was referring to something else.

Ever hear guys in those old movies calling some woman a "dizzy dame"?

This particular woman involved was from Australia, which was then part of the British Empire.

The English language and the cultural history of the United Kingdom is linked very closely to that of the United States.

When I was child, I used to see Laurence Olivier on television talk shows and he had a title called "Sir".

They always called him Sir Laurence Olivier. So he explained many many times that he had been knighted by the queen. He said the female equivalent was a "dame".

I would have thought that was common knowledge in the millennium.

Also, it's well known that some words in the English language in the UK often have different meanings and/or usage from those same words in the United States.

Watching "Mega Machines Titan of the Mountains".  Remember those old cow catchers on steam locomotives?

Norway's TRAXX 185 repurpose the snow plow to be a "moose catcher".

It's called wartime. Too bad we don't have a wartime president now.

My father was in World War II in Europe and my mother held down the home front by working her government clerical job in the day and running my father's businesses at night.

My parents told me all about Franklin D Roosevelt and why he was a great wartime president--

An Innovative, proactive leader  who was president for all the people and a president who gave Americans hope and encouragement--

Not hatred and divisiveness.

This is not classified as war but a health issue.  That's what China has declared on Corona!

Martial Law here has constitutional limitations i.e. if widespread looting, rioting occurs.

Your "wartime" president doesn't agree with you.

We lost over a 1000 people just today to the Coronavirus.

And it sure looks like a war zone to me in New York City.

In case you haven't heard, in the last 2 weeks we had 10 million people who applied for unemployment.

America is definitely in crisis and we are being attacked--

I wouldn't be surprised if we do see martial law before this is over, not because there's rioting and looting Etc--

but for our own welfare and safety.

BTW-- What has China got to do with this conversation? LOL

You may be right.  Although President Donald “Bone-Spurs” Trump swaggered that he was the “War-Time President”, he has basically retreated and surrendered.  He cannot figure out who will plan the charge, the goals change daily, no supplies or ammo are give to the frontline troops, he says he is just a back-up, and that he bears no responsibility.  Protecting our nation was one of the solemn oaths he swore to, and just like the others, he is unable or unwilling to uphold them.  He should be removed from the WH in chains NOW, before the loss of American lives continues to escalate.
