The SR-71 was limited as well.  It was designed without wideband communication links, so any recon had to be recorded on film, tape, or disks.  The older U-2 had been retrofitted to return data in real time.

Drones are used more often than anything else in aerial recon these days.  No human life is put at stake, and no hostages to take (as in the Powers incident) should it be shot down.

The Lockheed Martin SR-72 is expected to reach speeds over 14,500 mph and will be an "optionally piloted flight research vehicle" (FRV), ie it will be able to fly with or without a human pilot. The craft is expected to have an estimated length of approximately 60ft. Expected to be in operation by 2030.

Everything else has to be PC, why not Superman.

Be amusing if his arrival craft crashes on a white supremacist camp.

Since Superman's an alien from another world, maybe he should be green, or purple, or variegated
