Trump vs. Mueller investigation?

Recommended Posts

I felt that Trump and the GOP had little to fear from Mueller appearing before Congress,  but now it appears Barr and Trump don't feel that way.   Otherwise why did the DOJ write to Mueller advising him to keep his testimony within the bounds of the report?    Mueller already said publicly that this was his intent.     Did Mueller tell Barr something different and that made Barr push the panic button?

With that memo,  Trump and the GOP can make no gains from what I felt (until today),  was a needless political stunt by Dems, that would backfire on them.     If Mueller doesn't offer up any 'juice' Dems can now claim it was due to pressure from Barr and continued obstruction of justice.    If Mueller does offer up 'juice' it will place GOP Senators in purple states in a difficult spot.

House Republicans say special counsel Robert Mueller will face tough questions when he testifies before Congress this week about the Russia probe.

How can he possibly answer these Republican tough questions when Bill Barr just limited his testimony to what is in the report?

If he answers these Republican questions which are not in the report then fails to expound on the report to democratic questions I would say that he is going to be the biggest rat there ever was.

Jerry Nadler says Mueller does not have to comply with the DOJ letter telling him to 'remain within the boundaries of your public report.'

"He doesn't work for them.
And that letter asks things that are beyond the power of agency to ask."

I feel like all these threats from Barr against a federal witness not employed by the DOJ

should come with something more dramatic like a finger drawn across the throat

so that Americans *really* understand these are indeed lawless threats with no authority behind them whatsoever

There was enough corruption and criminality in the Trump campaign and Administration to fill a 448 page report.

The terrifying fact about the Mueller Report that no one is talking about is that the first and more important half of it
—the part that discusses whether Trump or members of his campaign betrayed America—doesn't resolve the question.

--------------------------------------------------------

"Nearly every claim made by Donald Trump and his allies in the Republican Party about Volume 1 of the Mueller Report—that copious volume that deals with accusations Trump or his campaign conspired with the Kremlin—has been false.

Trump and his advocates say Mueller found no evidence of conspiracy? That's not true. They say Mueller found no evidence of coordination? Also false. Mueller found no evidence of collusion? False. Mueller considered the facts from every angle but couldn't establish any conspiracy between Trump or his campaign and Russian nationals? False. Mueller made a final determination on whether law enforcement could establish the exceedingly narrow band of conspiracy he investigated? Nope.

Volume 1 of the Mueller Report says none of these things,........"

The GOP can handle the truth;  they are just planning on ignoring it.

It is the folks here with TDS that can't handle that truth: that GOP Senators will not convict Trump.

Two things.  Some of their constituents may become uncomfortable with this Trump can do no wrong credo.  And at the very least let us not let Trump rewrite history in an Orwellian way.  Let's try to get the truth on record.

To me the truth is already on record as evidenced by the report;    Historians etc.. will end up seeing the full, non redacted report.

As for some GOP Senators seeing the light of day?    There are only 7 GOP Senate contest being held in 2020 in states that Trump didn't win by a wide margin.     These vulnerable GOP Senators may flip and vote for a conviction but that still wouldn't get to the 2\3 number.     BUT it could help the Dems win a few of those contest since the GOP incumbent would be challenged by a more far-right candidate in the GOP primary, which could lead to a Dem moderate winning.    (and maybe the Dems can get a majority).

Haven't read the full Mueller report? Take a look at the 6 page summary from House Democrats

(available on Politico at

Apparently this is not a summary as such, but an interpretation by Democrats as to what the report shows.

CNN has received the first batch of "notes" from the Mueller investigation through the Freedom of Information Act.  This batch focuses on Trump chomping at the bit in anticipation of the wikileaks stolen emails and acknowledgment that it would be a "game-changer."  I believe these notes were primarily involving Rick Gates.

They are expecting Don McGahn's testimony notes at some point.

  1. The Mueller Memos

The Mueller Report’s Secret Memos

BuzzFeed News sued the US government to see all the work that Mueller’s team kept secret.

We have published the first installment, with revelations about the Ukraine conspiracy theory, Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, and more.

..... The documents revealed Saturday, known as “302 reports,” are summaries of interviews with former White House official and Trump campaign manager Stephen Bannon, Cohen, Gates, and more. They are some of the most important and highly sought-after documents from Mueller’s investigation. They reveal what key players in the campaign told FBI agents about Russia, Trump, the email hack during the 2016 presidential campaign, and Trump associates’ handling of the special counsel’s investigation. .........

We illustrated the Mueller report. Didn’t read all 448 pages? Start here.

The report offers a rare window into the workings of the White House and President Trump's efforts to block the investigation. We thought this would be a compelling way to explain what the special counsel found.

Mueller investigators said Roger Stone orchestrated hundreds of fake Facebook accounts in political influence scheme

........

Stone discussed with his contacts trying to coordinate with WikiLeaks about its releases of hacked emails, and he was in touch with a Twitter persona operated by Russian hackers. Mueller didn't accuse anyone of illegally working with the Kremlin.
The warrants released Tuesday highlighted just how extensively Stone discussed the WikiLeaks drops in 2016. The warrants also noted that, in their searches, "Stone in fact communicated via private direct messaging with WikiLeaks during the Campaign" despite him claiming publicly he had not.
Stone was also in contact with WikiLeaks the following year. One warrant mentioned messages between Stone and WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange, who since then has been indicted in the US for computer crime and is facing extradition from the United Kingdom.
On June 4, 2017, a month after Mueller's appointment to investigate Russian influence in the election and coordination with the Trump campaign, Stone messaged Assange on Twitter, the warrant said.
"If the US government moves on you I will bring down the entire house of cards..."...........
