a truly maligned film..... very good on its own terms with solid performances by Mary Pickford and Johnny Mack Brown.... stagy yes, but for a 1929 ALL-TALKIE it's compelling.... the closing scene as Pickford walks down the street is quite beautiful....

Karl Struss should be a household name for his work in this and *DANGER LIGHTS (1930)* which aired this week- fab train scenes. No guffaws at Mary's voice, I'll bet. Wardrobe and accessories are gorgeous! Looked like Elaine from SEINFELD did the choreography for the dance scenes though. You're right about the closing scene and the sign on the store said it all.........crying in the aisles. Thanks TCM for a pretty great week.
