Guest
*The Oyster Princess* is hilarious and is among the best quality prints of a silent film I've ever seen... also Ossi Oswalda (the star) was known as the German Mary Pickford and she's wonderful. gagman66
Wendy, ugaarte, Everyone, I can't find the link on the Warner Archive site to vote for upcoming releases? Where the devil is it located? Does anyone know? They had THE PATSY up there a few months ago, but that was the last time I saw any voting polls? I would like to know what they have people voting on now? If people have been trying to reach me, I installed Microsoft Office Pro so I could read Thelma's web-design plan. Very nice design, but in the process it completely overrode my E-mail account. So I had to uninstall it again.

gagman66
Mark, Have you tried requesting in the Suggest a movie portion of this forum? Believe me there are many other Silents that haven't aired in a long, long time on TCM. Here are just a few of them. Hopefully Warner Archive will be releasing these. Would appreciate your help in getting them back on the TCM schedule. LA BOHEME' (1926) Lillian Gish, John Gilbert, Renee Adoree' Directed By King Vidor. THE SCARLET LETTER (1926) Lillian Gish, Lars Hansen, Karl Dane. Directed by Victor Seastrom. CAPTAIN SALVATION (1927) Lars Hansen, Marceline Day Pauline Starke, Ernest Torrence. THE SHOW (1927) John Gilbert, Renee Adoree, Lionel Barrymore. Directed by Tod Browning. THE VIKING (1928) Pauline Starke, Donald Crisp. First ever all Two-Color Technicolor Feature produced by MGM. TIDE OF EMPIRE (1929) Renee Adoree, Tom Keene, George Fawcett, William Collier Junior Directed By Allan Dwan. SPEEDWAY (1929) William Haines, Anita Page, Karl Dane, Ernest Torrence. NOAH'S ARK (1928) Delores Costello, George O'Brien. Directed by Michael Curtiz. DESERT NIGHTS (1929) John Gilbert, Mary Nolan, Ernest Torrence. THE PAGAN (1929) Ramon Novarro, Dorothy Janis, Renee Adoree, Donald Crisp. WHERE EAST IS EAST (1928) Lon Chaney, Lupe Velez, Lloyd Hughes, Estelle Taylor. You could also try requesting, and voting on the TCM Movie Data base for DVD releases of these tiles too. Would appreciate it thanks. Of course my first priority for a DVD is THE BIG PARADE. The greatest film Silent or Sound never released on DVD by far in my opinion. That has to change. After over 5 years I am getting tired of waiting to see the new restoration on TCM. By all rights, It should have been made ready in broadcast format from Warner's a long time ago.

gagman66
ugaarte, Wanted to be sure to mention, TCM put up 5 clips from THE BIG PARADE in their Media Room. Also A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS. And the print of AWOA clearly looks better than what I have seen in the past. I am really surprised, because I didn't expect TCM to post anything from THE BIG PARADE until the new restoration was made available to them.Thank you TCM! This photo I just worked on last night. again I was not able to post sooner, because the board was not letting me in here. *Vilma Banky-"Princess at Royal Court"*
gagman66
Just a quick note, I already received my copy from Flicker Alley of BARDELYS THE MAGNIFICENT/MONTE CRISTO today. It isn't supposed to be out until the 7th. And Amazon has the release date as the 14th of July. So I was quite surprised how quickly I received the set. I figured that I might be receiving it a couple days in advance but not this quickly. I think there is still time to pre-order and get the $10.00 discount but you had better hurry. gagman66
ugaarte, Have you ordered BARDELYS yet? I think the $10.00 discount direct from Flicker Alley is still valid for another week or so. Don't forget there is also a new 30 minute mini-documentary on John Gilbert. Just $29.95 for the two disc set with Free shipping. Which is quite good all you are getting. There is even and enclosed booklet, and a photo Gallary. Plus not one, but two scores to BARDELYS THE MAGNIFICENT. Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, and Antonio Coppolla as well. If you want to see these movies, I would suggest purchasing the set. TCM apparently isn't running these films anytime soon, and it might not even be until next year sometime before they do? We learned from David Shepard a week or so ago, that no contract has been signed to broadcast the movies at this time.
gagman66
Some Screen captures of a young and incredibly beautiful Renee Adoree from MONTE CRISTO (1922). Just Jaw-dropping!
JackFavell
Renee was more than just beautiful, she was expressive. Even though the stills are so very beautiful, I think those caps might be my favorite you have posted of Renee. They are so full of emotion. gagman66
Wendy, These captures do not at all do Renee justice in the movie. Oh, how I hope there is a print of *HONOR FIRST* someplace so we can see John Gilbert's first pairing with Renee as his leading lady. The picture looks soft here, but most of the film is quite sharp. Although not as good a quality as *BARDELYS THE MAGNIFCENT.* There are repeated Jump-Cuts. The Vidor film is much more escapist type fun by comparison. *MONTE CRISTO* is a very serious movie and Gilbert gives one of his best dramatic performances. *BARDELYS THE MAGNIFICENT/MONTE CRISTO* is well worth purchasing. The documentary is very fascinating. Even if it doesn't actually contain any film footage. Just Gilbert's daughter reflecting on her Father. To be honest, I was rather disappointed at first in the new Mont Alto Motion Orchestra score to *BARDELYS.* Especially after I had heard such raves from the live performance at the Annual Kansas Silent film Festival back in February. So I was expecting allot. I actually liked the Antonio Coppolla piano score used on the France 3 Broadcast quite a bit better. However, the second half of the Mont Alto score really picks up the pace significantly and is excellent.. I thought their selections on the first half of the picture didn't work well with the movie at all, and were frankly rather dull. Almost like night and day with the second half of the film though. In any case both scores are included in this DVD set so that definitely makes it nice. For another week or so the set is just $29.95 with Free Shipping. If you want to see these pictures, I would order, because neither film is going to be on TCM anytime soon. and Probably not until next year even. Here is the link to order: http://flickeralley.com/fa_btm_mc_01.html This is a very nice article on the collection as well. http://twomodernguys.blogspot.com/2009/06/rediscovering-john-gilbert.html
