msladysoul
I don't like when stars are called sex symbols and most of them don't like it either- the females especially. Sex symbol is like calling someone a prostitute to me. Sex symbol is the person represents nothing but sex and that's all people see of them. Rita Hayworth, Jean Harlow, Clara Bow, Betty Grable, Marlene Dietrich, Ava Gardner, Lana Turner, are considered sex symbols. I think of them more then a sex symbol. Of course they had sex appeal but I think its disrespectful to just call them a sex symbol. We should call them Love Symbols, because they were lovely and we all loved them. Calling them a sex symbol just means sex is all their good for. These actresses like the ones I mention had to fight that stereotype all their life, because people looked at them as sex symbols and thought of them only for Sex, actresses still fight that today. Maybe Marilyn Monroe like being classified as a sex symbol but few others didn't. From now on lets call them Love Symbols.
cjrogan2003
There was something known as "race movies" in the 1940s. Black people in the 1940s and 1950s didn't appreciate Rita Hayworth, Betty Grable, Marlene Dietrich, Ava Gardner, Lana Turner...they appreciated movies like Alfred Sack Enterprises, Oscar Michaeux.
