I wish there had been more discussion about Mae West in this course.  She was one of a kind -- a dramatic actress with great comedic timing, she was also a playwright, screenwriter, and singer -- she sings in all of her movies.  Her career spanned decades.  In addition to her films, she performed on stage -- on and off Broadway -- and in Las Vegas.  She was bawdy, independent and completely authentic.  Her feud with the censors was the stuff of legend.  It even got her arrested but she didn't back down.  She once remarked, "I belive in censorship.  I made a fortune out of it."  At one point she was the highest paid woman in the United States.  Gotta love her!
