lavenderblue19
Thanks, metz. I actually knew it from the first clue, but could not remember if it was RI or Conn the name of the film or who was in it. (a senior moment). Drove me crazy all night until I thought of Dana Andrews this morning. It's a little shocking in the beginning to see the Reverend (or Priest) get killed so that's what made the film memorable for me.I can't think of a film right now and have a tight schedule today so the thread is open unless I can come up with one or have time later. In the meantime anyone can take over. That was fun, metz.

MilesArcher
It sounds like "There's No Business Like Show Business" with Ethel Merman and Dan Dailey as the parents, and Donald O'Connor, Johnnie Ray, and Mitzi Gaynor as their children. lavenderblue19
Correct Miles. *There's No Business Like Show Business* - I didn't get to use my Heat Wave clue. Even though most critics didn't care about this film, I love it!- It's one of the films I grab for when I need cheering up. They were all great in this one and Marilyn's numbers were great. What a genius Irving Berlin was.Wish TCM would show this one. Great job, thanks for playing this round with me and it's all yours.
MilesArcher
Thanks, Lavender. Clue No. 1: Depression era show business story. Message was edited by: MilesArcher
MilesArcher
Not "42nd Street". Clue no. 2: The star's company has to fight to get contracts to put on stage shows in theaters. His backers are skimming the profits.
MilesArcher
"Footlight Parade" is correct. The stage productions were called prologues, and would be performed before a movie. Can you imagine how much it would cost to go to a movie now if there was a lavish musical production number first. The "By A Waterfall" number alone with Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler is unbelievable. James Cagney starred as a tough guy producer/song and dance man in one of his too few musicals. The thread is yours, Mr. Sixes.
