cmvgor
(41,663) *2.* Gallent rescue: A shy co-ed is made ashamed of her party gown by the remarks of a snide classmate. Her escort then points out that the meangirl's attire is the height of fashion at the "remote mountain town" he had recently visited on business. The classmate is effectively quashed, and the co-ed is on her way to being in love. cmvgor
v'fest; Bingo! after some 260 Views by my count. I was standing by with a number of clues stating that this film had low regard among the fans (or the Cult) of the reclusive writer J.D. Salanger. The source short story was Salanger's Uncle Wiggley in Connecticut, and the author so hated this lame adaption that he has never again allowed any work of his to be adapted for film. ("This movie is the reason we'll never get to see Catcher In The Rye on film!", etc, etc.) It was, in fact a very bad adaptation of the source work. Your thread. cmvgor
Thanks, Eve. Going for a new one. *1.* A family of four -- the parents and two adult daughters. Stressed and disfunctional. When the most disruptive member dies, the other three are brought to some measure of peace. cmvgor
*2.* Foreign film from an English-speaking country. The actors are not well-known here, but the film is an early work by a woman director who has gained some favorable international recognition. cmvgor
Not *Holy Smoke*, but getting there. *4.* The younger sister is the family terror. She grew up spoiled, and she rules the parents by tantrum. She returns after an absence with a young man she claims is her agent/manager. The father takes this man to a cafe in preperation for trying to get rid of him. Turns out the "manager" is a narcoleptic. He falls asleep and rolls to the floor, and the father is able to lose him. The Lady Eve
After much consideration of Jane Campion, I'm going to guess *Sweetie* (1989)...?
cmvgor
Correct, after some 340 Views. A previous poster was on the right track, focused on a Jane Campion title. I found this movie on VHS in the early days of vidio stores, and rented it on the basis of a favorable review by Mr. Ebert. Worth a viewer's time. Your thread, Eve. frankt65
Sorry Eve - not Silver Streak. clue 2: The hero of the story is shunned by all society due to an incident that happened years ago. The incident is compared to that of the Donner Party and he does admit to one transgression by saying: Eat one lousy foot and they call you a cannible.
