Well, I'm back after several days away and I find that not much has changed, especially with this thread. Now, Stick, you should know the rules of this thread by now. You solve a puzzle and leave one, all in the same visit. You don't need to wait for confirmation. If you are wrong, you will be told. Believe me, everybody who goes to the trouble of constucting one of these puzzzles, wants it solved correctly. So, while we're waiting for Stick to submit one, try this one. You may have seen part of it previously.

I'l wait to see if someone pops in on us to try their hand..will check back. Thanks Miles...I'm learning from you!

"Singin' In The Rain" featured songs by producer Arthur Freed and his partner, Nacio Herb Brown, who had written songs for MGM from the late twenties to the forties. They decided to write one new one for the movie and it was "Make 'Em Laugh". Everyone knew it sounded a lot like Cole Porter"s "Be A Clown", but Porter never complained, and the song was kept in. Yours is "Laired Cregar as Mr. Slade In "The Lodger". He always reminds me of a young Raymond Burr. Now,

*Orson Welles Eulogizes As Father Mapple In "Moby Dick"* - I kept thinking "Who is Larry B. Dick?", then I got the correct stooge. Well, Edythe, my job on these boards is to educate as well as entertain, so I try to have some informative clues. Most of them involve old movies, TV shows, and old songs. Most of us on these boards fancy ourselves as more than just casual movie fans. I think we would liked to consider ourselves as sort of amateur film historians. The movie clues should be easily solved, and if you are from the baby boom generation, the other clues should be pretty easy, as well. If someone has to do a little research, well all the better. We all learn a lot when we look for information on old movies. Now here is my next one.

Groucho's Show "You _____ Your Life" "______ And Sympathy" Charlton Heston Film "______ Lady Down" Robert Stack Starred In "________fighter And The Lady" , Robert Taylor Was A Marshal In "The ______ And Jake Wade" She Played Loretta In "Car Wash" John Wayne Film "______ To Bataan" Jack London Wrote "The ______ Of The Wild" , Martin ______ Lewis Actress Winningham Abbreviation For The "Land Of Lincoln" State She's The "Coal Miner's Daughter" In "Road To Bali", Bing And Bob Sing "Hoot ______" Nick Nolte Starred In "Cannery ________" William Wellman Directed "A _____ Is Born" The Village People Sang "_____ The Navy" Gerry And The Pacemakers Had A Hit With "______ Do You Do What You Do ____ Me?" Singer ________ Hopkin Sang "Those Were The Days" O'Neill Wrote "____, Wilderness" W,C,Fields Was Featured In "If I Had A ____________" + Basketball Playing Dog "______ Bud"

Now, after you stop humming, try and solve the puzzle.

*Hoagy Carmichael Sings "The Rhumba Jumps" In "To Have And Have Not"* - Edythe, I think you got confused with your Fred Gwynne clue. He was in "Car 54, Where Are You". Jerry Van Dyke was in "My Mother The Car" with Ann Sothern as the voice of the car. No matter, the clue was still *Car*. By the way, Hoagy Carmichael was not named after a sandwich, as some people might suspect. His real first name was Hoagland. Thank you for the Robert Osborne compliment. I'm very flattered, but I'm not in his league when it comes to movie history. Did you know that Robert Osborne was once an actor and he appeared in the first episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies"? See if you can recognize him in this clip:

Now, here's my next puzzle.

Are you humming again?
