It's a relief to hear this, Goddess! I thought you've ALWAYS loved it.

Maybe in two or three years I will too, lol.

I'm under the weather and achy and irritable so excuse me for posting 2 good men here that always perk me up (from IN SOCIETY, one of my favorite A&C routines):

One never knows! I bet if you saw it on the big screen it would make a different impression.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear it. You know what I'm going to say: Chicken soup! :D

A&C are the next best thing, though. I'd forgotten that routine, what a pip! Is

that supposed to be in New York? They haven't changed! And I think they

renamed Bagel Street because it had such a bad rep. :P

Thank you, my crablet.

I need a good back massage by someone with strong hands but since I've no one here except my stuffed animals (their little fingers aren't much help, although perhaps when I'm asleep they give each other massages)

I'll take some aspirin and have a few cups of Darjeeling.

I saw THE MAN WITH A CLOAK last night. I knew instantly who Joseph Cotten was supposed to be.

Oh my goodness! Here we are on the same Irish Wavelength AGAIN. I have had

the most awful back ache for the past three days and nights. If it doesn't clear up

by this weekend I'm going to see if I have any money on my credit card for a massage.

I forgot you can drink caffeine at night. I've had the aspirin but with water. Maybe

I'll make some chamomile tea.

I recorded it but haven't watched it yet. Is that the one with Barbara Stanwyck?

I've seen that one before.

I have a feeling if I had first seen THE SEARCHERS on the big screen I might have felt differently about it. The cinematography seems somehow surreal to me, I can't explain it....Also, I don't get a sense of the passage of time when Duke and Jeffrey are on the hunt...oh, well, I really need to shape up and take another look....

Thanks for your well wishes and I'd make chicken soup now but I'm just so lethargic.

That Bagel Street routine is as old as vaudeville! It's fascinating to me how Bud & Lou managed to make those chestnuts come alive again in such a "hip" '40's context; I guess they're timeless. It's supposed to be "Anywhere, USA" I think, lol. This is also a variation on "slowly I turn"

(whenever anyone mentions Niagara Falls)

I know what will make me feel better as well -- DEATH ON THE NILE!!

Sounds wonderfully classy-schlocky!

If ever I thought Stanwyck was a model of economy before, her "Lorna Bounty" (!) in THE MAN WITH A CLOAK is the distilled essence of her minimalist style; you've got to see it to believe it. I don't like the look of Leslie Caron here; for some reason, her face reminds me of a Cabbage Patch doll. (forgive me)

And I caught THE KILLER IS LOOSE. Oh...my....goodness -- Wendell Corey is in the house! (in every sense of the word!!)

And he's in the kitchen too. Oh, mama.

This has got to be his best performance -- as a mild-mannered psycho!! (he was good in DESERT FURY, but here he....well, you have to see it -- and, does he anticipate a Hitch villain? You decide!)

I've been watching Pappy lately, yes. (saw THE HORSE SOLDIERS again on Monday; I'll get back to Goddess's thread tomorrow or so)

Bull is my angel; if I had to choose between him and Doniphon, I'd have a panic attack.

Give yourself time. Let it creep up on you like it did me, but you don't ever have to

like every Ford/Wayne masterpiece. :D

Well, it does feature the Nile and it certainly is deadly. :P

Ha! You mean more "minimalist" that Victoria Barkley? :P She made so little impression

on me in that movie I forgot she was in it.

The comment about Leslie broke me up. I'll have to watch it now to see if I notice the

resemblence.

Ha! I recorded that one, too, which I have NOT seen before.

Have a Belgian chocolate with your Darjeeling.

Hello, my Gaelic sister -- oh how awful with your back pain! I have that too now as well. I've been doing some yoga stretches but it's not really helping. I do hope your chamomile tea gives you some comfort. Get some extra sleep. I'd make YOU the chicken soup if I wasn't feeling so lousy.

Take care!

I never really thought much about it as I was watching the movie, Chris. It's a good point, although I probably don't know all that much about classic silent movie scores. I do however have a very high opinion of Criterion Collection for something they did with their *Pandora's Box* DVD, which came packed with 4 different scores. Being able to switch back and forth between all of them was a very enlightening experience, since you could see what a big difference it could make to the overall effect of the movie. B-)

This is a really great screencap, it makes me want to go back to the DVD again and make a few more myself. ;)

I'm feelin' poorly

Hi Barb...hope you feel better soon. It is no fun being under the weather. Chicken soup is always good...that and the darjeeling will at least give you the "cozies" even if they don't ward off the blech altogether...REST and plenty of it goes a long way as well...Hope you are up and at 'em again real soon....I need your "cleaning" inspiration the way you had it going at Thanksgiving...what musical would you suggest to put me in the holiday mood and give the floor a good scrubbing???

the most awful back ache for the past three days and nights

Oh no! It was probably brought on by all that harassment from that One Bad Man in the white hat! :-) Seriously...hope it is better soon.

At the risk of sounding like a copycat...I have been getting a pain right above and between the shoulder blades and I think it is from tensing up outside due to the cold and having to be out in the awful weather...it is SO rotten out here this week....and now on top of all the other junk...they are calling for freezing rain tomorrow... I can just feel the tightness in the back of my neck from all being so cold and from all the extra "caution" due to the slippery surfaces...Don't know if that is where your trouble is coming from or not...but several people out this way have all said the same as me...Winter is OK usually in my book....but this is a bit ridiculous.

At any rate....rest up and stay warm...and think "peaceful" thoughts as you sip your tea...and then ...go get the massage. :-) Hopefully you'll be good as new soon enough.
