I have heard this song a gazillion times... never knew it was tied to the film before... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Garrett_and_Billy_the_Kid

That scene alone is worth watching the whole movie for. Oh, that is on my list of movies to watch.... yeah, yeah, I say that about everything..... But I didn't know Katy was in it.... so now I HAVE to bump it up on my Netflix queue.....
lzcutter
*Question: is that song originally from the movie or did someone just tack it onto this video?* MissG, Welcome home btw! Anyways, yes it is the music from the film. Bob Dylan made his motion picture debut with this film playing (if I remember correctly) a reporter. I think he provided the music as well. I don't know if he wrote "Knocking on Heaven's Door" expressly for this or not but it is used to great effect throughout the movie. None more than in the scene with Katy and Slim. It is one of the most beautifully framed scenes in western film. The clouds in the background, the water in the river. And the look on their faces as they gaze at each other knowing that it is the last time they will do so. Damn, I've got tears in my eyes just watching it. Like Wendy, I think I need to bump up Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid on my queue! I was very impressed with that clip (I see what you mean about the beauty of the scene). JackFavell
Great idea! I'll be TOTALLY there, CM, shameless plug and all...... Izcutter- I think I did see PG&BTK, so long ago that I don't remember one bit of it! But I do remember Bob Dylan...... I probably only watched it as a curiosity... to see him. I may not have seen the rest of the movie at all. I was going through a Dylan phase.....
CineMaven
lzcutter...uh, what's up with the Kool-Aid Kid moniker? Did you serve that at that bad film festival you had back in college? ?
lzcutter
*Pat Garrett* is a problematic film, not always good but when it finds its voice, man does it soar. I think if another actor with more acting chops had been in the role of the Kid, the film might not have been so uneven. Dylan is problematic as well but the movie does not center on him the way it does on Kristofferson. Kristofferson can be good in films such as *Songwriter* and *Trouble in Mind* but I think Sam had more pressing problems when he made this film and that cost him in the end. However, the supporting cast is made up of some of the unsung giants of the western genre and for them (and Coburn), the film is worth seeing. MissGoddess
I may be way off with this, but it just occured to me that the relationship between Katy and Gilbert Roland is very similar, at least in its closeness, to Sarah Allgood and Donald Crisp in How Green Was My Valley. I've always felt that Celts and Latins have much in common, especially with regard to family and traditions. There is just so much solidarity between these two pairs of mates, like you know nothing, absolutely nothing, could pry them apart except death. It's more than "love". Joy Page and Robert Stack feel love for one another, but they aren't "sympatico" like the others. Just a wandering thought.

Let me try to wrap my brain around that one overnight - it sounds really interesting. My attention span, however, has become so short that I can't think for any length of time without looking over my shoulder, waiting to be interrupted. So I am losing my steam - one solid evening of rambling has done me in! But it's a great feeling...... I am going to watch the short documentary tomorrow morning as well. I am excited because my new (beige) tile is getting installed tomorrow!

route66
> I am looking online for the documentary, but can only find it in the box set. Netflix doesn't seem to have the box set. Maybe it's time to check the library.... Actually Netflix has all 5 movies in the Budd Boetticher set (for that matter, Classicflix does too). The documentary is included as a bonus feature in Disc 1, *The Tall T*. But as Lynn pointed out, it's also going to be showing on TCM very soon. Good luck with the tiles! MissGoddess
Hi Barbara! Was it you or someone else who said they haven't yet seen NIGHT MUST FALL with Robert Montgomery and Rosalind Russell? Well, it's on later today at 3:00 pm, so I hope all who can will watch it. A very, very charming-creepy performance by Montgomery nabbed him his one and only Oscar nomination. I'm curious about the movie following at 5:00, London At Night. It sounds intriguing thought I'm not sure if it's a serious mystery or a lightweight one: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=1907&category=Full%20Synopsis
JackFavell
I haven't seen *Night Must Fall* in years..... I think I already taped it, but I have to check. I remember being creeped out by Robert Montgomery so much! I can't wait to watch it again... Bronxie I hope you get to see it. I am curious about *Kind Lady* on at 1:30. I love Aline MacMahon, so I look forward to it. It sounds like an interesting plot. I really like the programming today - it's a good theme and mixture of movies. MissGoddess
Wendy, I wanted to see *Kind Lady* but it looks like I'll miss most if not all of it. Let me know if it's any good. I agree, it was a nice morning and afternoon of programming---too bad I'm at work.
rohanaka
RE: Kind Lady... I watched it some time ago when it aired before... SORRY I did not catch it this time (it's almost over now I am sure) but it IS very worth watching... I will keep a look out to catch it again sometime... I am busy most of the rest of today, so am planning to tape Night Must Fall and the one following it this afternoon as well... I'll look forward to hearing everyone's take on them... PS.. just a brief nod (as I don't want to steer away from all the "darker" tales that are already in play here) I watched John Loves Mary last night... stayed up WAY too late... Molo and I think it was Chris mentioned it a long while ago... VERY light and funny tale w/ lots of silly twists and turns..... And FINALLY a Patricia Neal film I can say.... "woo hoo" about. Ha. Ok... back to the 'dark side".
MissGoddess
Hi Kathy, Wendy: I managed to watch about 30 minutes of *Kind Lady* and recognized it as an earlier version of a movie I have seen---I think with Ethel Barrymore in the role Aline MacMahon plays. I can't remember who played Basil Rathbone's part. Very chilling.

JackFavell
Oh my gosh! Kind Lady was sooo creepy.... I thought it might be more of a love story - but NOOOO.... Now Night Must Fall. I won't be sleeping tonight!
