Movie Rambles

Oh no, don't start tempting her with MORE Jerome Cowans! What's next - Allen Jenkins?!!

When the TORCHY BLANES were on a few weeks ago, I had completely forgotten that her boyfriend is Barton MacLane, and I enjoyed all of those. There was one (TB IN PANAMA) with a good Lola Lane but a completely nondescript Paul Kelly taking over those two roles, and blah - it was 'just nuthin'. It couldn't hold my interest.

But then Barton & Glenda show back up, and whoosh, off they go again. Were those THAT much better stories? Actually, I blame PANAMA's flatness solely on Paul Kelly - he had no pizzazz to the role. He didn't mutter, he didn't stomp and fuss, he just added nothing to the film.

Then in the last TB film (PLAYING WITH DYNAMITE) Jane Wyman's got the lead and Allen Jenkins takes over the boyfriend role and does a very good job in it. He brings all his typical wise-cracking side-jokes, dumb comments and continuously-baffled looks just perfectly.

I don't think Jenkins ever made it to the highlights of cinema like Jerome Cowans did, but he delivered that leading-man performance very well.

Ha! What I should have added to my post was that OLLIE was the man to see about your Jerome. Ok, I'm going to find the Jerome pix now and I'll upload them at TCMU. The movie with the former president's ex-wife was really cute, you will love it.

I never heard of this one, Wendy, the trailer you posted from YouTube. Have you seen it? Jerome should have a song dedicated to him---or a film noir festival....DEWEY!!!

I have never seen Find the Blackmailer, or heard of it. I did look up a few Alias Smith and Jones episodes - Jerome was in 6 of them, but he only played a banker in the first for like two seconds. That's all I've watched so far. Cowan aged more gracefully than any other actor I can think of. What a doll! I'm in love. Again.

It must be spring.....

Find The Blackmailer?!! OH MY... now I gotta have that.

And listen, don't threaten me with YOUR house blowing up. I've been thinking of buying out the neighbors, bulldozing down everything just to extend our shelves out another few hundred feet.

"If I build shelfspace, the DVDs will come!"

Isn't that how it goes?

Find The Blackmailer. Good grief - so TCM has shown this before! Darn... well, time to start putting up serious Suggest A Film numbers for this one! It looks like so much fun, too.

I wonder if he's ever done song & dance numbers? He's got this great musical voice, and he's agile enough looking - in those days, probably everyone was capable of it, and I suspect he would be in the upper side of those.

Jerome Cowan was in a John Ford movie!!! According to IMDb.com, he was in THE HURRICANE...I can't remember him, though....

IMDb.com also says he was in SHALL WE DANCE, and I don't remember him in that but it says he sang a song!!

Not bad.

I just love that in 2009 we are excited about Jerome Cowan. :)

There's a trailer on IMDB or Youtube fromt eh Hurricane, and he is yelling at someone while wearing a white uniform. I don't remember him either, but I haven't seen it in a long time. Time for another Ford festival!

I do remember him from the end of Mr. Skeffington, because he is the funniest of Fanny's old suitors.

You're right, finding pix of him where he's not biting the bullet is tough...

I did upload the Maltese Falcon pix but unfortunately he's in profile....

I have a recording of The Hurricane from TCM and will try and look for him next time I get a chance, though it could be a while. Also I just got notice from the library that Hatari! is waiting for me, and that is something else I will look forward to in the next few days.

There's a few other things I'd love to ramble about, but I know that some people here don't like it when I start going off on a tangent...and I can be pretty bad about that, for which I sincerely apologize. :)

I'll try and stay out for the time being since I have a bunch of movies to catch up with. But best regards to all the ramblers, hope everyone else is as excited about the GG day in SUTS as Frank, Molo and I. ;)

What's the line? Something about "He followed you licking his lips..." In this pic he is trying to get a look down Brigid's blouse, I think...

Here are some dear pics of another play he did - Magnificent Yankee.

The funny thing is, he actually looked better than this when he really got to the age he is portraying in the picture.

Oh Wendy, look at this---Jerome is in the first part but the whole thing is so PRECIOUS....

Everyone: this video features outtakes of "bloopers" by various Warner Bros

productions...too funny.

MissG's photo of Miles Archer getting it?

Biting the bullet? Holy Bette Davis, Batman - the gun's pointed, uh, well, let's just say, low.

I guess it doesn't pay to sneak a peak down her blouse in the earlier scene! Jerome, Jerome - someone shoulda warned ya... tsk tsk...
