Movie Rambles

*Has anyone else noticed that this is like the only thread on the board that has more replies than views? I didn't know that was even possible.*

Actually, molo, it probably isn't possible, since each time you reply you are also viewing the thread. There seems to be a bug somewhere that trims the views counter, it happened to the Obit thread in General Discussions the other day, all of a sudden it went down to like 3 views even though it has dozens of replies.

So I'd guess it may be a bug of some sort.

By the way I enjoyed reading your writeup of *Come and Get It*, which I just got around to watching... my recording was so old it was preceded by the "Sunny Side of Life" promo. B-)

Well I liked it a lot. Since I want to watch it again at some point, I may be renting the DVD to enjoy the extra crispness that you get from prerecorded DVDs.

I thought it was very well done, although perhaps a wee bit predictable, and that it really have Frances one of the best opportunities of her career; Edward Arnold is in top form here, and I can't help but wish there would have been some way to give Joel McCrea a little more screen time.

Didn't Walter Brennan win an Oscar for this one?

I think you would like it because of it's over all theme. Let us know.

Also, way back in this thread I think that Bronxgirl mentioned something about you having a thing for Simone Simon. I just watched *Cat People* again not that long ago then I watched *The Devil and Daniel Webster* just recently. I will probably do a write up on that soon because it is such a great movie. Anyway, Simon has one of those great "fall off your chair" intro shots. Man oh man Her Belle is very....well lets just say I'd sell...well no...lets just say I'm a fan. :D

You have any screen caps of Belle?

> So, I was watching this Western earlier... *The Comancheros*. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's one of the better Wayne westerns I've seen that wasn't a John Ford movie. And there's this lady in it who seems very nice, her name is Ina Balin. Apparently, she was born in the Bronx. B-)

Ah, Ina's a fellow Bronxite, eh?

THE COMANCHEROS has one of my favorite Bernstein scores, and I like it because my sweet Stuart is here. I get all fluttery when he takes Ina in his arms for a romantic yet rugged kiss.

I didn't know Stuart very well before I watched this, but he's kind of grown on me. I hope to watch this movie again one of these days, especially if it ever should be available in high-definition. B-)

THE WACKIEST SHIP IN THE ARMY really wasn't. (see my comments about Ricky in Grimes Torture) The movie didn't jell for me despite the fact I really warmed to Lemmon as the beleagured but caring skipper; he doesn't even make one nasty remark about poor Alvy Moore's coffee, which is sort of a running gag throughout (and provides a deadpan finale)

Tony Curtis is so sexy in OPERATION PETTICOAT as the street-smart but suave operator -- the pig smuggling is very funny. And Arthur O'Connell is cute too, lol, as he gradually becomes aware that maybe women are just as competent as men.

Also, way back in this thread I think that Bronxgirl mentioned something about you

having a thing for Simone Simon.

Yes, Bronxie is evil. She uses her sharp pins to great effect. Oh, she may seem all

playful and fun, but you watch out. What she doesn't know is that I gave her a little

piece of paper just recently.

I just watched Cat People again not that long ago then I watched The Devil and Daniel

Webster just recently. I will probably do a write up on that soon because it is such a great

Fantastic! Both films are big favorites of mine and darling Simone is one of the primary

reasons why. Have you seen Mademoiselle Fifi?

Anyway, Simon has one of those great "fall off your chair" intro shots. Man oh man

Her Belle is very....well lets just say I'd sell...well no...lets just say I'm a fan.

:D Go ahead and sell the farm, my friend. And you are so right, as usual. Simone's

entrance in The Devil and Daniel Webster is one of the greatest I have seen.

You have any screen caps of Belle?

Surely! Here's the little angel:

Does this cap remind you of a film prior to The Devil and Daniel Webster?

No I haven't. I want to take a look at her other films now. So that will be my next choice. *Temptation Harbour* looks interesting. A review on IMDB describes it as English noir. Simone is perfect in both *Cat People* and *The Devil and Daniel Webster*, she had much less to do in *The Curse of the Cat People*. *Josette* is another film I want check out.

It really is something. When she turns around it's just stunning. I'm sure poor Jabez was bewitched Immediately. I know I was. She is mesmerizing in all her scenes.

Ah my Belle! So beautiful! So charming! Surely she wouldn't lead me astray! Not her!

Frank you are the man! Thanks so much for those wonderful caps! :D

Oh no a pop quiz! I knew there was a catch. :)

Well I'm talking on the fly here. Anne Shirley looks like Melanie form *Gone With the Wind* but you haven't seen that have you? *Stagecoach* maybe?

Hi Lady B! I like *Operation Petticoat* better, too. It doesn't have Jack Lemmon in it. :P Oh!

But it does have Tony Curtis, ha! I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of either actor though I can take

Tony in his youth a little better. Jack just sometimes gets under my skin and a little of him

goes a long way. However, I do prefer him infinitely to Ricky Nelson (which is like preferring

something substantial like beef to whipcream, ha!). Neither film have that something "extra"

though that the "other Jack" managed to instill in his service comedy before he collapsed.

"Limpid" is the word that first comes to my mind when I think of Maureen's beauty in that movie.

That said, I actually think she was more beautiful as she got older and character entered her

face.
