rohanaka
I'm Talking Barbara HA! Just don't build any stairs onto my house... I actually like the picture of the bedroom (w/ out the antlers) best...though the other one is kind of nice for a more woodsy cabin sort of feel. I like the less cluttered look, (though at the moment you would not be able to tell if you looked around my house) I don't know if we have any Archies around...(I am sure there are plenty of Jughead's though) Would you settle for a wealthy restaurant owner? And there are also a few TV personalities nearby as well...I don't think there are any bloodlines going that far back( as Victoria) around here unless you can find one of the Indian Casino owners...those are a little further out from where I live but it's still not too far away. :-) will have to dispose of your space heater, my girl. Oh do you have to?? This is the first year we've ever had it and I am getting so addicted to that pretty red glow. (not to mention that warm cozy feeling) I may have to hide it from you and only pull it out when you are out visiting w/ Archie....or Chief Running Elk...or whatever his name may be :-)

Bronxgirl48
I've been eating an everlasting gobstopper since last night. I haven't turned into a blueberry yet, thank goodness. Here's a photo of "Glenbogle", the fictional estate on "Monarch of the Glen". How's this for curb appeal?? Yeah, antlers aren't my cup of tea either. A bit TOO rustic. I know you're attached to the heater but don't worry, I'll build you a gorgeous wood-burning fireplace, so that wee red glow will be only a memory... Gack! Keep those rich restaurant owners and t.v. personalities away from me. I need nobility, gentility and fair-haired white knights and pipe-smoking lairds! You can see why I'm single. rohanaka
Well Barb....I have not seen too many castles in this neck of the woods sorry to say....but I DID manage to think of some "royalty" that you may be interested in (And April...there are plenty to choose from...I bet some of them would even be willing to relocate to your Rancho de Big Apple) Each year, every year...The American Royal is the big show in town...Granted there are no lairds or dukes, etc...but... PS...I would GLADLY trade my sweet little space heater for a gorgeous wood burning fireplace...you have such a persuasive sales pitch! :-)

Not to Scotland, though (too cold for me). Maybe a private island somewhere warm and breezy? Or I could settle for a nice, sprawling ranch (with all the modern convenciences---and maybe a few luxuries ) where I could hire some of those bronc busters after they're busted. I don't suppose you've ever heard of Chapala, have you? It is the #1 destination for American and Canadian expats. Lovely weather all year round - you don't need heating and you sure don't need air conditioning. Also, I'm sure there are many sprawling ranches nearby. JackFavell
Wow, guys! So many rambles, so little time! _Molo_ - Your mom sounds like a trouper. I think she will make a spirited recovery. You and she will be on my mind all week, and I wish you both well. I finally caught up here- beautiful rambles on *The Misfits* ( Gorgeous screen caps. I love that people can appreciate Eli Wallach, no matter how sad sack he is), *Milk* (Beautiful pics, Mica. This and Frost/Nixon are the movies I am most excited to see this year. I'm glad that moviemakers are actually thinking again), and various and sundry home on the range rambles..... I actually looked up Belgian Waffle on the computer since I am looking for a new color for my living room and dining room. I think I need to go with more of a clotted cream or a buttery white since most of my furniture is rich, vibrant yellow already. The rug is green, and my couch is a sort of tea dyed beige with yellowy gold, coral and green flowers. The wood floor is an orangy-gold VERY rustic old growth pine. I want something that is a bit reminiscent of either a french or english cottage- but not dingy looking. It should look fresh and glowing when you walk in the door. I really don't need any "antique" colors, because the house is antique enough as it is. We do NOT need to point up the fact that things are falling apart! I loved the pink/lilac Benjamin Moore paint we used for my daughter's room- it came out _exactly_ the same color as the color chip, and covered in one coat. I think this is one time when I have to buy a sample jar to check the color first. They have some promising sounding colors that make me hungry- Creme Fraiche, Vanilla Ice Cream, Milky Way. Also one called Cancun Sand, which I think I am interested in only because the high today is 27 degrees.
rohanaka
Hey there April....Woo Hoo (HOO--HOO--HOO!) (Ok...can you tell I am doing my little "happy dance of joy right now??) I went to the library today and found out what my "mystery" films were....BIG surprise...not just two but THREE count em' three of my orders are in....NOT the Horse Soldiers--tough break for me--but I am STILL not disappointed. So...what DID come in??? The Informer....Two Rode Together....and (drum roll PLEASE).....3 Bad Men!!! I am so excited I am about to just quit work early this afternoon and stay home to watch movies....ok...no I won't do that....but I AM very tempted! I also was able to "re"-check out Emma and so I hopefully be able to get to it later...and Jack...I found Walter Mitty again so will be getting to that one hopefully too. (oh good...just as I finally got Beautiful Dreamer out of my head) I got to see The Man From Laramie this weekend....I will maybe ramble on that one later over in westerns....but wanted to give a BIG shout out and huge "SIGH" for The Gold Rush. Oh....April....I have a new one to add to my list of all time favorite love stories. I know there is a lot of comedy running all around this film....but the love story angle...oh wow... That Chaplin was a genious. (you know....the Guy who looks like Rober Goulet) Ok...you'd have to go all the way back to a long conversation this summer to get that one ,if you don't know what I am talking about....Jack...did you ever get your computer screen cleaned off from the soda pop??) I am SO happy to have seen this film and would like to chat more about it, but have to go back to work here in a minute. Any one else wanting to ramble...feel free. Maybe will be able to find more time later...but I will say that I watched the original silent version ONLY because I was lucky enough to get it from the library...the actual DVD was the later version but it had a Special features disc included and THAT one had the original on it, so I bypassed the later version...(does that sound snob-ish??") and just watched the silent one instead...Oh...I wish I had more time to ramble...what a great time it was just to watch and enjoy.... Talk to you folks later... :-)

Such a marvelous interweaving of light and dark, I really think that was Chaplin's strongest suit. And it's probably the hardest the thing to do, no wonder he was so painstaking about getting everything just PERFECT. I look forward to your "rambles". JackFavell
Ro- You actually answered the question I was going to ask by saying that you watched the old version! Congratulations on skipping the newer one. The re-issue left out some terribly important stuff. It explains your wonderful reaction to the movie as well, because the re-issued film does not make sense. So if you feel comfortable rambling about it, I would love to chat..... Bronxgirl48
If there are no lairds, I will happily "settle" for Gay Langland! That's a man! (Gable is very sexy as a mature cowboy; i.e., THE TALL MEN, ACROSS THE WIDE MISSOURI, and his crowning achievement, THE MISFITS) I'll be back on the boards later this evening -- I've got to go out and find a photo of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for my class because they don't know who he is, and we have to sing the song for our Xmas party in 10 days. Rehearsals for that are starting tonight. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

MissGoddess
Is there such thing as a ranch-by-the-sea? Because I just realized my ideal home isn't ideal unless I'm at the seaside. I could raise seahorses by the seashore.
Bronxgirl48
boy, your house sounds so charming, jackie. I'd go with the clotted cream. Mom is going to make the final decision about her carpet this evening. I'll bet she'll pick Coconut. Stay tuned, everyone. See you all later! Hmm, it would probably have to be in the Pacific Northwest, where you could have the western feel, together with the lure of the ocean. I love seahorses! I have a seahorse ornament on my Xmas tree. Film_Fatale
As someone who has occasionally spent some time on the Mexican coast, I can tell you there are some real bargains to be had out there. But you should still make sure to install a good purifier or stick with bottled water. Unfortunately, purifying all water systems appears to be prohibitively expensive, even today. Film_Fatale
And in an unrelated movie ramble... did anyone here catch *Cowboy From Brooklyn* earlier today? I'm just recording it... Pat O'Brian, Priscilla Lane, Dick Powell. Couldn't ask for a better cast. Maybe Dick does look a bit funny with the cowboy hat, but still.
