FrankGrimes
How do, Quiet Gal? -- The Informer....Two Rode Together....and (drum roll PLEASE).....3 Bad Men!!! I am so excited I am about to just quit work early this afternoon and stay home to watch movies....ok...no I won't do that....but I AM very tempted! Miss G and Jackie have poisoned you! I suggest you watch some film noir before it's too late. I got to see The Man From Laramie this weekend....I will maybe ramble on that one later over in westerns Anthony Mann! Terrific! That's one I can ramble on, too.
MissGoddess
Barbara---have you ever seen Picnic at Hanging Rock? I was thinking of you when I watched it last night and wondering if this was a movie you'd like. It's a kind of "horror" movie---but poetic, romantic, coming-of-age, mystical horror. It's one of the rare, relatively modern movies I love.
FrankGrimes
RING! RING! So? Contribute! You must have tons of "rambles" and reviews stored up. Let's have them. Hey! I have been rambling! MissGoddess
Watching Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) last night I got to thinking about post-60s movies I like, and there are so few that I can list them. I'm so hopelessly old-fashioned. Here they are: The Tamarind Seed Out of Africa Emma Picnic at Hanging Rock Somewhere in Time Love Story (I know, I know!) Breezy L.A. Confidential Gladiator The Insider A Beautiful Mind Dirty Dancing Dead Poets Society Walkabout Il Postino Enchanted April Un Couer en Hiver Nelly et M. Arnaud Indochine The Lover The Shootist Rooster Cogburn The Yakuza True Grit These films I saw as a child and loved them. I don't love them anymore but I'll list them anyway: Star Wars (only the first one) Superman (only the first one) Raiders of the Lost Ark (none of the sequels) E.T. I used to love horror movies as a kid but no more. *The Fog* (original) was my favorite. That is about it.
FrankGrimes
Yes but what have you done lately I'm trying to think of my crushes. I know who needs to be crushed. I also have to reply to some snippy post down yonder, where the soldiers and horseys roam.
MissGoddess
Oh my goodness I have that same screencap!! I just took it because I thought the picture was soooo purty. It reminds me of an oil painting. I don't know what "snippy" you are referring to, but we shall all await your Yankeeship's review.
FrankGrimes
Oh my goodness I have that same screencap!! You have every cap! I just took it because I thought the picture was soooo purty. It reminds me of an oil painting. You know, when I watched The Horse Soldiers on Saturday, I did NOT notice the backdrop. I just noticed it a few minutes ago while taking the cap. It's an amazing shot for such a small moment. I don't know what "snippy" you are referring to, Ohh, I'm sure you don't, Snippy. but we shall all await your Yankeeship's review. Get ready to get a face full of river water.

Film_Fatale
In regards to the original *Superman*... I recently rewatched it again after many years of not having seen it. It still stands up extremely well, and in some ways plays even better now that I am more familiar with many of the classic actors who appear in the movie, like Glenn Ford and Trevor Howard (I was already familiar with Marlon Brando back in the day). I even admire Ned Beatty a bit more than before, because I didn't realize when I was a kid that he was also quite capable of doing drama, as well. Which he did extremely well, imho, in *Network*. I'm so hopelessly old-fashioned.+ You are old-fashioned....but as one of my favorite tv sitcom phrases..... ?There's nothing wrong with that!? I would have thought you would have easily had many more post 1960 films that you liked. I looked at my top 500 films of all time and I can honestly say that there are at least 150 films made after 1970 that I would have to include on my list. That is 30% of my total of 500. But that is just me.

I'm firmly with you that there's nothing wrong with being old-fashioned. I spend probably 80% of my movie-viewing time watching films that were released before I was born. Maybe it's just that certain things were simply not likely to be shown on-screen, but it's easy to come away with the idea that it was in many regards a more polite, genteel time. But at the same time, I fell in love with the movies during the 80's, and I'll be darned if I don't still have a place in my heart for the "top hits" of that decade. :x
