she came through it well

Hi Larry!!

I am so happy to hear things are going well. I know it is a long process, but it sounds as if you both are getting along nicely and that is very good to hear. Blessings to you and your mom as you tackle these next few weeks together!

PS...take your time on catching up here. There is a lot going on...but it's never too late to ramble.

Thanks for giving us the update. I always like to hear good news like this. :-)

Yes, and I also posted it on this thread. ;)

3 BAD MEN

Hi Barb. Hope you get a chance to catch this one. (that will be just one less person I have to stop on the street in my PR campaign!) :-) Seriously....it is worth the effort if you get a chance to see it.

PS..your mom is a hoot! :-)

Hey April....I wonder if our beloved Tom had any idea we'd all be starting up a fan club for him 80 years later??? :-)

Unfortunately I think TOWER OF EVIL was deadly serious, and seriously awful. I could barely sit through it, and that's saying something.

That was one of the worst movies ever, but not in a good way.

Like an early teen slasher flick. But I was fascinated by all the colorful Carnaby Street clothing, especially sweet Jill Haworth's shearling coat with the white flower designs.

Morning, Kathy!

Well, if Charlie Chaplin can still have fan clubs, I'm sure Tom deserves one no less. I'll try and post screencaps from *3 Bad Men* later on. B-)

Good thing I just fell asleep! ;)

Hi, Kathy, yes, I'm going to watch 3 BAD MEN at noon today; can't wait.

I'm also thrilled that I can finally access Fox Movie Channel now.

Why does everyone think my mother is so wonderful, lol??

She drives me NUTS.

She'll call me up and say things like "Chris Matthews (the CNBC motor-mouth anchor) is orange! What should I do??"

Me: (wearily) "Mom, just adjust the color".

Mom: (after 15 minutes with me waiting on the phone) "Oh, okay, I fixed it, never mind!"

Lady B! Do you get The FOX MOVIE CHANNEL? Because I just saw that

*3 Bad Men* is coming on at noon today! I haven't seen it aired on this network

before, so what a coincidence. Just thought I'd let you know in case you

can tune in. I've got to run, but I'll be back this afternoon. :)

hahahahahahahaaaaa!! Bronxie, I just had time to read through the thread and realized

that in my excitement you already announced Frank told you about 3 Bad Men. I had

only 5 minutes this morning and happened to check the channel when I saw it was

coming on and I just had to let you know.

Hey April....I wonder if our beloved Tom had any idea we'd all be starting up a fan club for him 80 years later???

Oh my goodness! I swear I can seriously feel a MAJOR crush developing on yet another

dead guy. :P

Why can't they ever be alive!!? (and under 60).

If he could see this I think he'd be terrified. But back then people used to get carried

away over movie stars, too, so who knows, he may have had his own little fan club

and women (like me) writing asking him to be the father of their children. :)

Be back later this evening to talk about it.

Ramble on, baby!!! The more the merrier! Glad to hear we have a new member in the club!! :-)

PS..April....I think we need to discuss the size of your "warehouse" if you are going to go into production on those tshirts....you may need to expand your operation even before it gets off the ground!

PSS...first "fan club" meeting is at my house...everybody wear their shirts and bring your favorite "finger food"! I'm making my famous "cherry mash" bars. :-)

Good evening, Kathy!

Could I attend the "fan club" meeting? I am watching *3 Bad Men* tonight! B-)

HA. April...I missed this earlier...too funny. (and somewhat sad but true!!) :-)

HA! Since he was married to his wife for such a long time....you would likely have to be a pretty good runner as I imagine she might have chased all those fans off w/ a big stick! (I bet it would be one of those blessing/curse things to be married to somebody famous AND good looking....glad my QT is NOT a famous guy...I might have to invest in big sticks for sure or at the very least go into my "Peacemaker" mode or something!! HA!) :-)

I'm hiring some ex-Wall Street big shots to do the pressing and folding. They'll take

any job this season. :)

I'll bring my "world famous" German potato salad.

:D

I'm also thinking that's why they said he took all those fishing and hunting trips. To

get away from the clamoring fans. :)

Thank you Kathy. I'm truly honoured.

I have almost finished watching *3 Bad Men* - there is a slight scratch, apparently, near the end of the movie (it's a rental). However, I can most certainly begin to understand the appeal of Tom Santschi. At first he reminded me a little bit of Eli Wallach, a kind of charismatic rascal. As the movie went on, and he began to show his "good" side, there were parts where he almost reminded me of (I kid you not) Tom Hanks. A very unshaven Tom Hanks, to be sure, but with that same kind of heart-of-gold interior.

Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find that Santschi really stole the picture when it premiered. I'd bet he's the character most people would have been talking about as they left the cinema.

April, I want a 3 BAD MEN t-shirt. Large, please, one in black and one in white.

Everyone, I cannot explain this, but I knew as soon as I saw those Sanschi photos, something "clicked" with me about him; and I just knew I would love him. When he took Olive Borden in his brawny arms to comfort her for the first time, I went weak in the stomach and knees.

I wasn't, however, expecting the EXTENT of that adoration; Bull Stanley is now up there with Tom Doniphon on my crush list, and 3 BAD MEN is now my favorite western.

I prefer him scruffy, too! There's a photo of Tom all spiffed up in a white hat, and he looks too much like a conventional "good-guy" cowboy.

kathy and jackie, I can't add much more to your already excellent comments. I too feel there is a quality of symbolism in that first shot of the three against the dawn sky. The theme of sacrifice and redemption,, the multi-layered narrative, the driven strong central character, down-to-earth humor, the "Odyssean" quality I think you mentioned, April, in connection with Bull that foreshadows Duke's Nathan in TS, the poetic yet realistic visuals, Pappy I'm your girl too for good now!

I can't say enough about Tom Santschi's performance -- it's so well modulated and filled with honest emotions, I was quite touched.

And that last scene, I went through a few Kleenex. I''ve never cried during a western before. (although I did get a bit moist for TMWSLV)

I'll bring a chocolate cake for the fan club meeting.

Kathy, sorry I missed this post of yours yesterday. You probably know this already, but the 30's version with Irene Dunne is generally considered to be better than the 60's remake with Glenn Ford. Not that the original isn't a bit creaky when watched today, as many early takies of that time.

"Why can't they ever be alive and under 60?" That's the story of my life these days, lol.

If we dress in 1920's flapper outfits, lie down on our beds and wish ourselves back in old Hollywood, maybe we could run into Tom and give him a big hug. (well after all, his wife would be with him no doubt, and we don't want to break up a happy marriage)

And would your Mom like one in orange or coconut? :)

I was amazed by how strongly I took this man to heart---how much I just loved all three

of those guys like they were real people. They really come across so authentic, like you're

just watching a documentary about them or something. I don't know, it just didn't feel like

I was watching actors or characters in a play. Maybe not knowing anything about Santschi

before this helped. It made me just think he really was "Bull" Stanley.

The whole cast, including Olive, did some scenes with some truly rough riding which added

a lot to the authenticity of the movie.

He looks so natural and "himself" all scruffy and in his western duds.

I came back home and watched the last twenty or thirty minutes and cried like a baby.

The scene with Bull and his sister kills me.

Christopher Caliendo, who did the music, did a really good job with it I thought.
