Wish List of Interviewees

Her name may already appear somewhere on this list, but I'd like to mention it again: Ann Blyth is an excellent candidate for an interview on "Private Screenings". She still enjoys good health, is still offering concerts, and was unquestionably an excellent actress that we have often seen right here on TCM. I certainly hope that someone with TCM is reading this thread and taking note of so many fine suggestions. ML

Mary Lou - Ann Blyth still appears on stage? I thought she kept herself out of the public eye completely because of how she's aged, or because of how much weight she's put on, one or the other. I thought I heard that someplace. The only involvement she's ever had with TCM, as far as I know, is when she narrated a retrospective of Joan Crawford's career when Crawford was Star of the Month. But I too would LOVE to see Blyth interviewed by Osborne.

There are so many stars still out there who would make fantastic interviews. I love the suggestion of Richard Widmark - a true living legend. As for Glenn Ford and Eddie Albert, I heard that their health is not too good anymore. In fact, this time last year here on the boards people were saying that Ford should be given a Lifetime Achievement Award before he dies, and I believe it was because he's not in very good health anymore. I think he's over 90 now.

Another star that I don't know if we've mentioned or not is Mitzi Gaynor. She's still doing well, and I'd love to hear her talk about the great musicals she made.

I just read in another thread that Ann Blyth was scheduled for a concert, and will be singing...which would indicate that she is still getting around, in good voice, and not reluctant to be seen in public. Unless I didn't catch the date of the post correctly, this was happening like this coming weekend. ;)ML

Moviejoe...look in the Favorites Forum for the post about Ann Blyth. She evidently gave a concert in LA last weekend, 1/8-9/05. The author of the post states that this is a "rare event" these days for Miss Blyth, but if TCM's studios are in LA, and she is this well, I can't believe that she wouldn't agree to sit down with Robert Osborne for a "Private Screening" interview. ;)ML

Jennifer Jones - A great choice, one of my favorites, but she no longer speaks about her career, but only about her mental health charities that she is so deeply devoted to.

Mitzi Gaynor - I saw her on TCM a while ago talking about Les Girls and Gene Kelly. But there's not much of her in the TCM archive.

Glenn Ford - sickly, as I have heard

What about Shelley Winters and Jane Wyman. The both have appeared in TCM short interviews in the last couple of years. In fact, you can even see them online, and the both appeared to be fit for a Private Screening.

Olivia deHavilland looked and sounded great on the recent GWTW DVD. It would be worth going to Paris to film an interview. on the way or way back they could stop at Joan Fontaine's, too.

where is Eleanor Parker, WOMAN IN WHITE, BETWEEN TWO WORLDS? perhaps they interviewed her.

one I would like to see is LIZABETH SCOTT. TCM has shown DEAD RECKONING, TOO LATE FOR TEARS and I think STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS and, of course, THE RACKET produced by HOWARD HUGHES!!! she made PULP in 72 than vanished.

re MITZI GAYNOR. TCM always shows SOUTH PACIFIC with her wildly underrated performance. TCM should have UA'S 1959 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY with her and David Niven. but never see that. perhaps rights problems. I think Mitzi Gaynor had a wonderful personality but a lack of good roles available to her. she is very good in the otherwise not too good ANYTHING GOES 56. never forget when she almost brought the Oscar house down doing GEORGY GIRL when it was nominated for best song in the mid 1960s. wonder who owns the rights to her old musical TV shows?

I nominate Jean Simmons to be interviewed by Robert Osborne for TCM. There is so much to cover in her distinguished career, including that she unwillingly was under contract to Howard Hughes who prevented Jean from filming "Roman Holiday." I hope that TCM will soon schedule Warner's "Home Before Dark," one of Jean's best performances.

I also enthusiastically support the suggestions of Eleanor Parker, Joan Fontaine, Mizti Gaynor, and Ann Blyth. Hopefully, we can soon see on TCM Ann's performance in Warner's "The Helen Morgan Story."

I did see the post in the Favorites section talking about Ann Blyth and the concert she was giving, thanks Mary Lou for pointing that out to me.

After reading about the concert I looked Ann up on the internet and I stumbled across what appear to be recent pictures of her, and she looks great! I wish she would be interviewed. I also read that she's very good about signing autographs, which is always nice to hear about a star.

And thank you Janus for mentioning Joan Fontaine. I have mentioned her NUMEROUS times, as I would LOVE to see her interviewed but TCM or anybody. She's so reclusive nowadays, and yet she's one of the last living film legends that we have who had an incredible career. I hope she's still in good health.

This was a topic I had long desired to post myself-(but someone beat me to-it, obviously Good goin'!)

I cannot divulge too-much-(a fellow OSCAR pundit, movie reviewer & just pal 0'mine Mr. Feinberg, has been able to interview-(via telephone) quite a few geniune heavyweights still "alive" from "Hollywoods Golden Age"

However, I am sworn to secrecy-(until book comes out!) Glenn Ford-(1916-) is a very-ill man these-days.

No comment-(for strange reasons on Widmark-(1914-)

& "Pvt. Screenings," has had OSCAR victor: *Jack Palance-(1919-) already own.

I think Jourdan has passed away though?

*Ernest Borgnine-(1917-)-( would be a massive 1 to have on-(just think of all the flix & folks he worked with!)

& Eddie Albert-(twice a contender) is going on 97!!!

I've always felt Jack Warden-(1920-) strongly resembled him. Who else agrees?

& of course James Whitmore-(1921-) looks like he coulda' been *Tracy's younger brother.

I have a compilation of all the "Pvt. Screenings"-9my own fav. was finding: Betty Hutton-(1921-)

& will post them after awhile for all.

Other than *Borgnine, Kirk Douglas-(1916-) would be "The ultimate!" & *Fontaine's older sis *Olivia de Havilland-(1916-)

I just saw Lauren Bacall-(1924-) listed. She's another that has been on TCM's "Pvt. Screenings"

& on 1 of the definitive OSCAR websites, just had a special mention of 2nd consecutive winner-(1936 & '37 for Best Actress) *Luise Rainer-(1910-) just celebrating her 95th birthday! & she looks very well too.

I know it pretty silly to even consider her-(because it's unlikely she'd ever do it) Imagine> *Elizabeth Taylor-(1932-)

To MJ, -(glad to see your ok buddy. Drop me a line please!)

I am 100 per cent positive: Jackie Cooper-(1922-) has as yet been on TCM! Thats a superb vote pal.

However,Jane Russell-(1921-) did at least 1 "Pvt. Screening") The 1 I most recall was aalong with: Robert Mitchum-(1917-97)-(of course co-stars at RKO)

& *Patricial Neal-(1926-) is among the more recent on "Pvt. Screenings"-(it's kinda' been off for awhile, or all repeats) & of course "The Mick"-Mickey Rooney-(1920-) has been on-(he loves speaking of that era & his life, etc TCM seems to air his the most actually?)

Maureen 0'Hara-(1920-) has yet to do 1 though. *"The Duke" & *Ford, kinda' thought of her as 1 of the guys.

Another "ULTIMATE"-(hope tcm's programming dept & most of all, Mr. 0sborne looks in on these occassionally!?)

He's almost 91 now & just about met/knew all the heavyweights of Studio-System>James Bacon-(*Tracy, *Bogart, *Coop, Marilyn, *Brando, *Bette Davis, -(not certain if he ever even got to speak to Garbo though?) *"The Duke" John Wayne, Judy, *Joan Crawford & a very well-known incident with *Tracy & *Kate Hepburn-(I'll let sagebrush fill you in on what *Katharine did on that infamous day)

Man, how could I 4-get: Van Johnson-(1916-) he's still going & well too-(at least last time I heard)(SIDEBAR:Possbly the finest all-around website to keep up on all these "Studio-System Folks" www.reelclassicsbyelizabeth.com )

I know a lot about Van-(mostly due to his relationship with *Tracy.

As I said to others on this ****-star topic. He just loves talking about those glorious days too.

& on sev. occassions claims to even owing his career to *Spence! On set & pretty-much start of 1944's good "A Guy Named Joe"-(1 of *Spielberg's favs. Hence '89's "Always")

He had an almost fatal car accident & L.B. wanted to just replace Van.-(& though *Tracy & Irene Dunne had their own troubles making the Fantasy. They both-(he mostly says it was *Tracy though that did-it. Clout.) they suggested shooting around "The Kid" as he called him. Because he had a good future, etc & Van, was really banged up too-(to put it mildly) Next time you see him in a post "Joe," picture. Watch for a limp of sorts-(his hip)

Anyway, M-G-M did it & it was among top hits of the year. & Johnson then jumped right into another big-hit & with *Spence as Gen. Doolittle! Same yrs "Thirty Seconds 0ver Tokyo" He'd been around prior to those 2, but they made him an instant star.

Such a marvelous topic! I neglected to also include, among the tons of "Hollywood Havyweights," that Mr. James Bacon knew.-(I know this is timely. Howard Hughes! Matter of fact he even plays himself in that 1977 tv-movie that was cited often) He was also among the 1st into the infamous & legendary bedroom of Lana Tuner's house-(after the police anyway)

glad someone mentioned Maureen O'Hara. I see bits and pieces of her making comments sometimes but never a full interview. I think she has enough credits for a SPECIAL OSCAR. Or no? QUIET MAN, the performance of a lifetime, HOW GREEN WAS MY VALEY, LONG GRAY LINE AND ALL THE FORD films. she is even strong in those Universal programmers. even with less than thrilling material, she was always excellent.

I agree with you on Deborah Kerr and Maureen O'Hara. They both were fantastic, and I've probably mentioned both on this thread about 10 times, but TCM really has to get on the ball! They should seriously consider so many of the people mentioned on here! Anyway, I hear that Deborah Kerr is not doing very well - and she lives in Europe. Maureen O'Hara, as for her, I saw her in March in New York and she looked pretty good. They should get as many people as they can to do interviews because they really are fascinating!

As been said several times on this thread Deborah Kerr suffers from Parkinson disease, so I am afraid there will never be any interview with her at this late date. If you catch the A&E bio on Kerr, the actress did agree to appear on camera for that one several years ago. It was one of the better A&E Biographies.

Hate to post bad news but Jane Wyman who is now over 90 years of age is not in very good condition, so this actress is no where a possibility. I also heard Shelley Winters is in bad health and I am not sure of Van Johnson's health as well.

Another suggestion I would have to be interviewed would be Ruth Hussey who co-starred in and was Oscar nominated for THE PHILADEPHIA STORY and also appeared in the chilling ghost story THE UNINVITED. People tend to completely forget this actress. I believe she is still with us.

I agree with you on Ruth Hussey. She played smaller roles in great movies such as The Women, Another Thin Man, Susan and God, and more. Of course, she was wonderful in both The Philadelphia Story and The Uninivited. She should really be sought after for an interview.

It's true that Deborah Kerr would never do an interview - unfortunately. In fact, just recently in the Q&A section of "Parade" magazine, someone asked about her, and the magazines reply was that she lives in the English countryside, and is not in good health, but loves to hear from her fans! Imagine that - the paper said that she finds the letters uplifting.

Maureen O'Hara is a GREAT suggestion. I would love to see her interviewed. I saw her on Larry King once and she was excellent. She's still totally with it and looks great for her age.

And it would be great to see Ruth Hussey. She is almost totally forgotten nowadays, but in addition to having the aforementioned movies to her credit, she also co-starred with Cary Grant in "Mr. Lucky," one of the few Grant films that I've yet to see - it's a hard one to come by. I wonder how her health is.

Another one that I'd love to see is Gloria Stuart - true she's known for "Titanic" but she had a great run in films during the 30's and would probably have some great stories from that time period.

And Spence - I think Ernest Borgnine is a great suggestion. He's a legend - but out of everyone we've mentioned, I think I'd like to see Joan Fontaine and Maureen O'Hara interviewed the most. And of course Olivia deHavilland, Kirk Douglas, and Liz Taylor - but I think it's just wishful thinking that we'd ever see them do a "Private Screenings."

moviejoe79, I'm afraid you got your actresses mixed up. It was Laraine Day who co-starred with Grant in Mr. Lucky. BTW its a very good film and deserves to be released on DVD. Sometime in the 90s I wrote Ms. Hussey and she graciously signed a few photos I sent her.
