lavenderblue19
Last clue. Fox film. The end of the film shows the audience watching a real film that the star made in the 40's playing a man who knows how to do everything.
MilesArcher
Is it "Dreamboat" with Clifton Webb and Ginger Rogers?
lavenderblue19
Yes and it's an adorable film. The audience is watching the scene with the baby and the oatmeal bowl . I'm disappointed that no one else seems to have seen this film. Very good comedy and Clifton and Ginger are wonderful in it. Anne Francis plays his daughter. Thanks, Miles your thread. MilesArcher
Thanks. As lavender said, in "Dreamboat" there is a film clip of an older movie that Clifton Webb was in. This type of plot device has been used several times in movies. In "Sunset Boulevard", Gloria Swanson watches her own old movies. Can you name another movie, or movies, where there is a film clip of an older movie featuring the actual star? There is more than one correct answer to this question. DownGoesFrazier
Not sure, but maybe Bette Davis in THE STAR?
MilesArcher
Yes, there are others. In "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?", seen recently on TCM, there are old clips of both Bette Davis and Joan Crawford from the thirties. In fact, Joan is watching one of her own old movies on television when Bette turns off the set. In "Young People", from 1940, twelve year old Shirley Temple is the adopted daughter of vaudevillians Jack Oakie and Charlotte Greenwood. There is a scene where they are reminiscing about when a very young Shirley was dancing with Jack Oakie in their act. The film clip is from 1934's "Stand Up And Cheer" and little Shirley was actually dancing with James Dunn, but we can't see his face in the clip. It was a very clever plot device. Maybe someone can come up with some more examples. In the meantime, the thread belongs to Mr. Sixes.

allaboutlana
I thought it was *The Wind* , because before the movie starts, Lillian Gish describes how hot it was, making it and how when she gripped the handle of a car door, and lifted her hand, her skin peeled off her hand and stuck to the car door. I used that anecdote, in a Do You Know Me? thread several years ago about Ms. Gish. But I was hoping someone else would get it, with my little suggestion.
