lavenderblue19
The way we play this is that first a guess, if it's not correct, then another clue is given. You've got nothing to lose, so take a guess.

forlorn_rage
Is it a Hollywood movie? There is a movie that comes to mind with that exact subject and scene. It's an Indian movie from 1963 called "Gumrah." A lot of times, Indian (or Bollywood) movies do wind up ripping off other movies, particularly Hollywood. Dothery
A married woman with an indifferent husband runs away to escape his predatory friend.
Dothery
Hint #1: The only picture where the actors who play the husband and the predator don't play their usual roles as partners. And it ain't Laurel and Hardy.
Dothery
Hint #2: The heroine finds herself in love with a third, mysterious man in her exile. A wig plays a part in the plot a little later on.
DownGoesFrazier
Is this Martin and Lewis?
Dothery
Not Martin and Lewis. This is not a comedy, but a romance which had been a novel by a famous woman writer.
Dothery
Hint #3: The lady's mystery love has an affinity for birds.
Dothery
Hint #4: And he speaks with a Spanish accent, which is strange, considering the story.
Dothery
Hint #5: The predatory friend sneers like nobody else in films. He's really GOOD at sneering. He even sneers at HER sometimes. Ths husband sort of huffs and puffs a lot. The lover just smiles and draws things.
Edythevanhopper
Is the sneerer Basil Rathbone? Frenchmen's Creek with Rathbone and Nigel Bruce was adapted from a novel by Daphne Du Maurier.
Dothery
Yes! Basil was the predator, Nigel was the husband. It was the first time they played together without being Holmes and Watson. Joan Fontaine was the lady involved. Arturo de Cordova played the Frenchman (with the Spanish accent) and drew the pictures of the birds. Your turn ... Edythevanhopper
Thanks dot, a biopic from the '50s had one of its costars do a dance routine well known to TCM fans. What film and what hoofer ??
lavenderblue19
The very first film that comes to mind is *Love Me or Leave* - Doris sings and dances Shakin The Blues Away the fabulous dance routine (one of favorites of all time) that Ann Miller does in *Easter Parade* . the reason I thought of that one is that Doris' dance routine can't compare to Ann Miller (as much as I love Doris and *Love Me Or Leave Me) she's no Ann Miller. ?? Edythevanhopper
Not the movie or star..wrong gender but a connection between Love Me or Leave Me and the film I refer to.
