Edythevanhopper
It's not that film either. This film was the 1st best picture winner to be even partially set in LA, 1st to depict the film industry, and 1st in which an Oscar statuette is visible. Edythevanhopper
Chinatown wasn't a best picture either. Keep in mind, only pieces were set in LA...HINT: One very graphic scene was set in an LA bedroom ??
Kid Dabb
You're correct. I read the wrong line on my page. How about Annie Hall ? I saw this several weeks ago, but I can't recall if we see Oscar at the Hollywood party.

Edythevanhopper
Oh yes Yes! The Godfather. In all that history of The Godfather I was surprised that would be the 1st winner to depict the movie industry. Thanks for playing along. Your turn. flashback42
I'llbedamned! That was a half smarta*s guess that connected. I thought that the real answer might be somewhere in "Bad Seed' type territory. Next up: Dynastic dispute. Reigning monarch -- of a clan, not a nation -- names his grandson as his successor, in preference to his son. Resulting conflict.

flashback42
Culture clash. The women of the subculture, as is their custom, gather around, crowding the sickroom, refusing to exit as the hospital personnel have tried to get them to do. The death of the old King will mean the rise of the new one.
flashback42
The young man does not really want the responsibilities about to descend on him. He is in love with a girl outside his closed culture, and he would like to live and function in the larger society. The problem is that his own father -- who was passed over -- would be a disaster at the job. The father moved to sell the lad's sister, barely in her teens, to help cope with his (the father's) debts. flashback42
The old King's son -- and father of the designated future king -- is resentful and rebellious. He sells his young daughter to a member of the community to stabilize his own financial status. (This daughter -- a rising young beauty, early in her career.)
