MilesArcher
Is it "Woman Of The Year"?
The Lady Eve
It's not *Woman of the Year* this time... The reporter pursues different stories and deals with a wide array of people and situations while also dealing with personal problems.

lavenderblue19
What the heck- I'll give it shot- *The Sun Also Rises* ?
The Lady Eve
A good shot, too - but not a bulls-eye this time - clues so far plus new info... A would-be writer makes a living as a reporter. The reporter pursues different stories and meets a wide array of people and situations while also dealing with personal problems. A fashion story was the inspiration for this film. The Lady Eve
The reporter's life is a jumble filled with glamorous women, parties, and problems with his girlfriend. Added to all that, a bogus story and the tragic and shocking loss of a friend.
visualfeast
THE EYES OF LAURA MARS?
The Lady Eve
An interesting guess and movie, *visualfeast*, but it's not *The Eyes of Laura Mars* Clues with note added: A would-be writer makes a living as a reporter. The reporter pursues different stories and meets a wide array of people and situations while also dealing with personal problems. A fashion story was the inspiration for this film. But the film isn't about the fashion industry. The reporter's life is a jumble filled with glamorous women, parties, and problems with his girlfriend. Added to all that, a bogus story and the tragic and shocking loss of a friend.
LonesomePolecat
This could be ANY Doris Day/Rock Hudson movie. You're too good at this--I can't guess.
The Lady Eve
One thing I will give away, *LP*, this ain't a Doris Day/Rock Hudson movie! I think I might've taken things a little off the track with the "inspired by a fashion story" clue...will elaborate... This movie signaled a new decade. It glimpsed beyond the decade, tho, since it seems to have foreseen, among other things, the coming of "bling."
cmvgor
*A New Kind Of Love* ('63, Newman/Woodward) ??
The Lady Eve
*cmvgor* - right decade, wrong movie...but an interesting guess (always enjoy Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward together) - This one is an award winner and was a sensation in its day. My fashion reference was about the "big fashion story" that was Balenciaga's "sack dress"...the director of this film was inspired by what he saw in that particular style as a contrast between beauty and emptiness - beautiful on the outside, empty on the inside... visualfeast
LA DOLCE VITA?
The Lady Eve
Happy to say *La Dolce Vita* it is! ...good work by all on this round, especially *visualfeast* - it's your turn - enjoy!
visualfeast
My film is from the same period, and strangely enough, it features a sack dress, worn by one of the three key players. It was a big literary hit, less so as a movie; but it did give the career of the ingenue a big boost.
The Lady Eve
*The Best of Everything* ?
visualfeast
No to BEST... 2. The film had wonderful graphic promotion by Saul Bass, a great musical score and took place primarily in two different regions of the same country.
The Lady Eve
*Bonjour Tristesse* ? It was a literary sensation, Jean Seberg's career got a boost, and Saul Bass was involved...
visualfeast
You got it...this is an underrated film...an accurate portrait of a psychologically and spiritually bankrupt class. Now it's your turn...
lavenderblue19
Visual and ladyeve- Great Job both of you. My computer has been giving me trouble so I didn't see your clues for *Bonjour Tristesse* - I've always been very fond of this film since I was a kid. I thought Jean Seberg was great in this one. I would have guessed correctly, but so glad both of you have seen this one and it was used on the thread. Didn't mean to interrupt, ladyeve- sorry- carry on. The Lady Eve
This was one of those movies I was too young to see when it was out, but when I finally did, was not disappointed. I've watched it twice in the last year on one of the movie channels (I don't think TCM) - and like it very much. Was happy to discover this was the movie *VF* had picked. I'll be back w/movie. The Lady Eve
A group of people is invited for some R&R with a very wealthy, powerful man. The guests aren?t all that fond of each other but none is in a position to refuse - and each could possibly gain something by being there.
lavenderblue19
*Woman's World* ? - just to get things rolling and get another clue.
