cmvgor
Thanks, Eve. Good clue. In fact, I'll use a variation of it myself. Summertime, hot city; a new tenant is trying to keep things cool.
cmvgor
(41,722) The party who responds and handles the AC emergency is the Super's son. This begins an age-inappropriate affair. A lad of 17, and a mature showgirl with three divorces behind. her.
cmvgor
The dancer is employed steadily enough that she does not have to work during the summer "off" season, but neither can she afford to spend that hiatus at a resort or beach. The young man becomes her distraction for the summer, and they do grow fond of each other. There is an amiable and generous sugardaddy, but he takes up little of her time, and not at her apartment. cmvgor
The affair can not be completely hidden from the tenants and neighbors. There is some judgement, some curiosity, some envy and some amusement. The young man's dad is, in fact, delighted.
cmvgor
Early 60s release. The performers in this film did much more work in TV than in theratical features. In spite of her seasonal arrangement, the dancer has committed to one gig. As a favor to one of her ex-husbands, she agrees to a one-week club date late in the summer. cmvgor
On an August evening when his girlfriend is busy elsewhere, the lad accepts an invitation to go club hopping with a group of his friends. One of them knows something that he does not.
cmvgor
The lads wind up in a burlesque hall where the discovery had been made. The dancer starts her routine in a Devil outfit and finishes it in a g-string and a veil. Worlds crumble.
cmvgor
There are recriminations, and hurt, on both sides. The final breakup is more painful to the woman than to the young man. In the aftermath, he asserts that the rumors about him and the tenant lady were mistaken. The teenage girl now hitting on him seems disappointed to hear that. But he is on the way into his future as a ladies' man.
cmvgor
I got stubborn with this one, and waited until the Views count went over 100. 1961's *A Cold Wind In August* starred 29-year-old Scott Marlowe as 17-year-old Vito, and Iris (the dancer) was played by Lola Albright, otherwise best known as Peter Gunn's girlfriend on TV. I went off my origional idea when I piggybacked my first clue on theladyeve's similar clue in the question that went before. I had planned to frame up ambigious clues that may also have led to *The Stripper* (1963; Joanne Woodward, Richard Beymer). Couldn't do that when the first clue mentioned the new tenant and eliminated the possibility that she could have been the boy's mom's old classmate. There is an adequate rundown of the plot in the TCM lists. Anyway, it was fun. Open thread.

DownGoesFrazier
I do easier ones than you, cmvgor. A widowed mother with a young son struggles to make ends meet. She works as a schoolteacher. Significant financial help suddenly arrives from a source "out of the blue".
cmvgor
Is this *So Big* ?? That Mom was first a teacher, then a farmer's wife, then a farmer's widow.
DownGoesFrazier
No, not SO BIG......... I generally restrict myself to pre-1970 films, but this one is somewhat more recent. I used it because I think it is vastly underappreciated. DownGoesFrazier
The "significant financial help" comes from a man from her past who shows up unnanounced at her front door. DownGoesFrazier
To summarize: A widowed mother with a young son, who works as a schoolteacher, is struggling to make ends meet. Significant financial help suddenly arrives out of the blue, when a man out of her past unexpectedly shows up at her door. The man is her father. This is a 1980's film. DownGoesFrazier
Nobody knows this film?..... This is a comedy from the pen of a man who has one of the very most impressive track records in that genre.
allaboutlana
I thought when you mentioned her father at the door yesterday, I thought it might be MAX DUGAN RETURNS. But, for whatever reason, I didn?t plan on a new post, so I didn?t play. Is that right?
DownGoesFrazier
MAX DUGAN RETURNS is correct. Vastly underrated Neil Simon film. Your thread, Lana.

allaboutlana
Thanks. A building not up to fire code is considered for ?an accident? by a middle-aged man, who can?t seem to get a hold of himself, still has nightmares of his war experience, and who?s desperate to do what he has to to survive, despite some sound advice from a co-worker, is the basis for this movie.
