Of course you're right, mudskipper. I thought the use of a key word would get someone to the right answer. Wambaugh disliked this version of his story; certain features in the framework plot gave some wrong slants on the meaning. It resulted in the author taking more control of the scripts in the following films, and in his Police Story series on TV. But some of the scenes were true to the source work.

For anyone who has not seen the film, just think of the "S-F,$5" orientation being delivered in Burt Young's mumble to pink-cheeked, perky young James Woods, who proceeds to tank his first assignment. Many of the individual set pieces were worth the viewer's attention. The major thing wrong with the final product was a labored and tacked-on happy ending.

Several times. Starting when it was still first-run in the theaters. Back when I still thought of Heston as Moses, and Conners as the Rifleman.

Western. Late 1960s. An outlaw leaves his gang, which includes his half-batty brother; he wants to go straight.

No disagreement re Connors as Ryder.

The ex-gang are really organized, and really vindective. The wannabe exbadguy rides into a town, having received a message that a former love wants to see him. It's a trap; the ex-friends are setting him up.

The bad guys have stolen an item prized by the Mexican government, and have manufactured evidence that the hero was the thief. This has advanced to the point of wanted posters showing his picture. The US government also are after him on this matter.

IMO, unexpected casting. This Western had a little more plot than some of them. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, this B-Oater hero role my have been given to any number of stalwarts. -- Randolph Scott, Guy Madison, Broderick Crawford, Audie Murphy, Alan Ladd. Or it could have provided hiatus work for any number of TV series leads. -- Clint Walker, Ty Harden, Fess Parker, James Arness. The one who got the role had made a lot of movies, but very few Westerns. He was a huge star, with a body of fans who seemed to follow him anywhere. This film came at a time when the Western itself was in decline, and this was not a big success.

Correct, at some 160 Views. Another feature of this flick: Elvis did only one song -- a ditty behind the opening credits. He performed up to the level of the material, but Westerns were just not in vogue at that time.

I think you know the movie but haven't quite got the correct title. Let's go on:

The lover completely forgets the anniversary.

The woman, sensing his lack of interest, pretends to be disinterested as well.
