I know that there is a boxed set of these films - about 50, in all - but I don't think that the prints are any good.

We need a special edition of Reg Park movies.

Are you listening Criterion?

Kirk Morris as Maciste- just doesn't understand women- I do love his fetching outfit

Very appealing, the outfit alone is worth the price of admission.

I don't know Lang Jeffries.

Lang Jeffries  ( 1930- 1986) was a Canadian-American actor of television and film who was married from 1960 to 1962 to actress Rhonda Fleming.  He was the hero in several European action- adventure movies

There were just so many peplum actors, who were, thank God, scantily clad.

Will Taur escape from that phallic contraption? Love the miniature work not too mention the Evil Queen who would be right at home in "Ru Paul's Drag Race"

Joe Robinson was beyond hot.

And the music sounded like the stuff the guy from DEVO (Mark Mothersbaugh) composed for Pee-Wee's Playhouse, which made the big phallic bellows thing all the more whimsical.

Joe Robinson made five sword and sandal flicks and even appeared as Tarzan in flicks, too (although the name had to be changed because the use of the character was unauthorized) -

This shot is just so "phallic" - or should I say that it's dripping with homoeroticism?

That Maciste dude really gets around here he in Russia?!  Love the way the director gives a loving close up to Kirk Morris'es  pectorals...

You have to wonder - were any of these directors gay men?

There is a homoerotic sensibility behind these muscle men movies- the heroes are of course hot looking, they spent most of the movie shirtless, the villains are always putting them in chains, there is a lot of group wrestling- yes their is female love interested- or evil queens who just lust after them- but there is also plenty of brobonding. But of course the source material is Greek mythology and we know how they invented brobonding not too mention the gayest sport- wrestling.   In the case of Kirk Morris the director or the cinematographer fell in love with his nipples?
