msladysoul
I love Frances Langford, she had a hell of a voice. I have to say I think she's better then Judy Garland. I would want a voice like her and she knew how to put over a number. I wish the movies would of made her bigger, and used her in top musicals more, maybe if she was with MGM, she could of been a bigger musical star. MGM just had that type of magic. Though she was quite popular in the 1940s in movies, radio, and entertaining the troops, she's not talked about much. I think her, Alice Faye, Ann Sheridan, Carol Landis, Martha Raye, Doris Day are my favorite movie singers.
msladysoul
For a little lady, she had a big voice, she was sensational. I wish singers singed like Langford, Faye, Landis, Sheridan, Day, and Raye. But, its just a dream.
kaneboop
It's a shame that Carole Landis doesn't have a cd of her material. I liked her voice in Four Jills in a Jeep. What's the best Langford cd on the market?
classicsfan1119
You will be pleased with the numbers of CD's available now at sites like Amazon.com for singers, or original music from that and earlier era's. If Ms. Langford recorded mostly with a Big Band, you might need to do a search for the Band leader she sang with, too, but a search at the site for Ms. Langford will probably show you anything that is available on CD. I have created a very large CD library of music, bands, and singers from the 20's through the 40's....all the music I was born to love (smile). moviejoe79
I'm also a big fan of Frances Langford, and I know she sang with the Bunny Berigan orchestra for awhile in the late 30's. Perhaps one of his CD's has her singing on it. And she WAS in some MGM movies, most notably "Broadway Melody of 1936" and "Born to Dance" both with Eleanor Powell. And you're right msladysoul - it's a shame that the studios did'nt make a bigger star out of her, since she did have a great voice and a nice personality. And just so you know - Ms. Langford currently lives in Florida, and will be 90! on April 4th. Hopefully she's still in good health!
