Marian, I knew who I was looking at when I found that photo and didn't see her, hard as I looked at it. Very unusual photo of her; at least I thought so. She looks quite beautiful and very exotic.

Thanks Mongo again for all the neat pictures!

Thanks especially for the one of Sybil Jason, one of my favorites. TCM really should get her for a "Private Screenings" interview. She's still alive & well and has a lot of stories that would make a wonderful interview. She worked with many of the top stars.

She is also so nice to her fans. She actually once wrote me a "fan letter"...as if I couldn't write millions of them to her, she wrote ME one. It was about ten years ago after I'd written something nice in an Al Jolson Fan Club magazine about the Decca records she made. She wrote me to thank me for what I'd written.

So how about it, TCM? Let's see Sybil on "Private Screenings"!

RELATED STORY

GARBO'S WILL LEAVES BEST PAL IN POVERTY

BY LINDA STASI

Monday, August 21th 1995, 3:92AM

THE woman who served as Great Garbo's constant companion for 30 years is living in poverty after being virtually cut out of her famous employer's will. Claire Koger, 89, sits day after day in her chair in her tiny fourth-floor walkup on E. 66th St., no longer even able to get out of her chair by herself, or carry on the simplest conversations. It wasn't always like this for the tiny Swiss-born German immigrant. For 31 years, Claire Koger was the constant companion of Greta Garbo, serving as her seamstress, confidant and sometime live-in best friend. Garbo always promised to take care of her when she died. But she left Koger exactly $3,500 "separation pay" from her $30 million estate. The rest went to Garbo's niece Gray Reisfield. Koger is dismissed in Garbo's final estate tax papers as "$3,500. Household Employe." Ironically, $25,000 is listed for "Gray Communications" for "media relations." Odd, since Garbo's idea of a good relationship with the media was no relationship. Now Koger's alone, and before the year is out she will be out of money, according to her legal guardian, artist Richard Schmidt, who is not paid. Schmidt refers to himself simply as "a huge admirer of Garbo," and has taken on the financial dealings and emotional well-being of the person who knew Garbo better than any other human.

Ms. Koger has since past away.
