lavenderblue19
Mudskipper, thanks for that guess, this is an American film with an American cast and director. Edy,Wolf thanks but it is NOT a bio. The film paid homage to a director's style of filming and type of story. I've already posted the original director was known for Melodramas. This film post 2000 takes place in Connecticut.
vickisilverwolf
Oh! I heard about this somewhere. They say that *Far From Heaven* was a pastiche of the films of Douglas Sirk. I don't know who the actress was who was in both films, so I'll levae the reserach to somebody else.
lavenderblue19
Yes, *Far From Heaven* , considered a tribute to Douglas Sirk. Now we need the name of the actress that appeared in both *Far From Heaven* and one of his classics that was released over 4 decades prior.Actress, film?? lavenderblue19
This is getting to be like pulling teeth. The actress was Oscar nominated for role in the Sirk film.
DownGoesFrazier
Are you saying that Jane Wyman or Dorothy Malone was in FAR FROM HEAVEN?
lavenderblue19
No, certainly not. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :_| There were other films Sirk was famous for, without Jane or Dorothy. actress was in Far FromHeaven & A Sirk film made over 40 years earlier THIS ACTRESS was in both of those films, and was Oscar nominated for the Sirk film. what is the problem?if you don';t know the answer which I think is a shame, then check the cast lists. Over and Out.
Edythevanhopper
I can't find the written word but a hunch is Juanita Moore who was nominated for Imitation of Life and now semi-retired?.. could have appeared in Far from Heaven?
lavenderblue19
YES Juanita Moore, *Imitation of Life* and *Far From Heaven* . All anyone had to do was check imdb for Far From Heaven, the cast list is right there. Anyone who knows films would have recognized her name immediately. At any rate, THANK YOU for thinking about the question, I appreciate it. Juanita Moore is still alive and in her 80's. Your thread. Edythevanhopper
I saw Far from Heaven too. A wonderful film and will check it out again to watch for Juanita Moore. On one of these threads there was a post about a British young girl who was a suggestion by Selznick to a director of this Best Picture winner in 1940. That film had screen tests of some great actresses but the one the director, Selznick liked best didn't get the role. Any guesses as to who that young actress was? Edythevanhopper
Hint: Not to worry. She went on to great things, a supporting actress Oscar for a film made in the same decade and an Oscar nomination for leading actress a few years later. DownGoesFrazier
Not to quibble, but I don't believe there were any British Best Supporting Actress Oscar winners in the '40s. Maybe I'm misreading something.
Edythevanhopper
To clarify, I didn't mean the actress that lead the others for screen test was British, Nova Pilbeam was Selznick's suggestion. The best screen test was this young American actress who went on to win supporting Oscar and nomination for Best Actress for one of TCM's all time favorite movies. Hope that helps. Edythevanhopper
Correct. After reviewing all of them one night, I determined I liked Loretta Young's screen test. I could have had Loretta as my companion? Your thread. Thanks for hanging in with this.

DownGoesFrazier
In August, 1939, a talented group of young performers played at the Village Vanguard in NYC. The group included two 22-year olds and one 18-year old who would go on to fame and fortune on Broadway and in Hollywood. Who were the 3? What was the name of the group? DownGoesFrazier
Hint: The two 22-year olds remained connected for their entire careers.

DownGoesFrazier
Two 1960s films. Each starred a legendary actress in a comedy in which the actress's character was married to a man with the same occupation. The two films?
Edythevanhopper
One legendary actress or 2?
lavenderblue19
If the question is 2 actresses - Doris Day is the wife in *Please Don't Eat the Daises - David Niven is a critic* and Lucille Ball is the wife in *Critics Choice* Bob Hope is a critic. (Edythe, I'm not sure what finance's means either.)

lavenderblue19
Thanks. Info comes from an interview done by the daughter of one of the actors. According to the daughter, these 3 actors had a basic difference in acting style. The 3 actors a made a couple of films together The 3 are very famous legendary actors. One wanted to always improvise, the other wanted to strictly follow the script, and her father was in between and acted as a go-between. Each actor had a very definite personna and are all loved and well respected by classic film lovers. The 3 were legends long before they made their early 1960's films togeher. Name the 3 actors??? allaboutlana
This is just a guess, which I had this morning, before the added info: but are two of them Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra?
lavenderblue19
No, sorry. These 3 are known primarily for a different film genre than Frank and Dean. None of the 3 sang. The 3 have appeared in comedies, but that's not the way we usually think of them.
