The later movie lifted the main plot of the earlier movie and welded it onto the rest of the story. So not a remake, but a new movie with re-used parts. You're partly on the right track, however..... Plus i've given so many clues i might as well save this for another time. But since i'm such a good sport: Warner Brothers had a quite a few very famous actors and actresses on its roster .
