Emgee66
Not Cagney, but Davis is correct. The actor was even bigger than Cagney at WB and had first choice of any scripts at the studio.
JamesBaron
I was going to mention Muni's Scarface and Cagney's G Men earlier, but it didn't really fit. Is the first actor Muni?
lavenderblue19
At first I was thinking of Flynn and Davis. But I keep going back to EGR and Davis in *Kid Gallahad* and the 40's film *The Wagon's Roll at Night* with Bogart. It's similiar to Kid Gallahad with the brother/sister angle ????? Emgee66
Muni is correct, well done. Lavender, sorry, that's not the angle. So Muni and Davis were in a movie whose plot was partly re-used a few years later ; in what movie?

lavenderblue19
So *WHO* was the the actor in the 1940's film? That was part of the question
DownGoesFrazier
These two men shared the same first name. One was a legendary filmmaker. The other was a comedian, well-known to TV audiences. It is an unusual first name..

lavenderblue19
Emgee, this question went on for 12 days. I think it was flawed. Raft was already a star by the time Drive By Night came out. Bogart wasn't the star of the film.would love to know where the info that Muni was a bigger star than EGR at WB at that time. The question was not fully answered and metz and I named Bette and Muni was answered. Please, more info without repeating clues next time there's a multy part question. Thank You for that consideration. WORK did go into research
Emgee66
Raft was a star; Bogart, who i was aiming for, wasn't . In EGR biographies you can read that he was constantly frustrated that Muni got the first choice of the scripts, and he got the parts that Muni refused. Also he desperately wanted to play the high- prestige biopics that Muni got so much praise for. I have given multiple clues without guesses, so i feel i did my part in getting this solved. finance used the info to make the right guess; what more can i say? "Part of the plot a well-known 40's movie was copied from a 30's movie by the same studio. The earlier movie had a famous actress in the female lead . Any guess which two movies? " This was the original question; finance answered it. Edited by: Emgee66 on Nov 21, 2013 9:58 AM
lavenderblue19
Actually you repeated the Oscar clues and others. Film Clues should have been given if you wanted a speeder response. Thank You for citing the Paul Muni, EGR book reference. Cut off is 7 days for a question, when we see questions are goijng over that the poster HELPS by giving film clues, or chosing another path besides just the same actor clues. metz, james, mr6 and I actually put work into research. I'm sure you can appreciate that
Emgee66
I appreciate any effort made to solve my questions, so sincere thanks to all who tried to solve this. Maybe i thought that people would find the right track if they asked themselves who were the big WB stars of the period; it's difficult to judge if clues are either too easy or too difficult. Plus i wanted to avoid mentioning Davis or Bogart outright; i honestly thought somebody would guess the right names so i could move this along. Sorry if i made this too confusing. Anyway, let's move on to the next question , shall we?
lavenderblue19
All that was meant to HELP you to get answers to the questions. As a relatively NEW poster here, that was meant to help you mr 6 made an attempt at that. btw, Bogart was not answered so the question wasn't fullly answered. This is to HELP you, no other reason. As far as I'm concerned metz by naming Davis and james by naming Muni really cracked the question. So kudos to them
