lavenderblue19
Doris Day while filming Midnight Lace is correct Doris' first husband trombonist Al Jordan, physically abused her during their marriage. When she was pregnant with her son Terry, her husband dragged her out of bed and threw her against a wall. In her autobiography she talks about how she thought about that incident when she had to be hysterical in a scene during the filming of Midnight Lace. She wasn't acting, she did become hysterical and when the scene was complete she fainted. Ross Hunter stopped production for a few days while she recuperated. starliteyes
While entertaining the crew during a break by doing imitations of her co-star, he showed up on the set and walked off in a huff. Before filming could continue, she had to go and apologize to him. This was the second time in her career that she had to apologize to a co-star, although it was for a different reason the first time. Can you name the actress, the co-star and the movie? lavenderblue19
probably time for a new clue
starliteyes
Okay, Lavender. The first time that the actress in question had to apologize she was a child and her co-star was much, much older. This time around she was in her teens and while the age gap wasn't as great, her co-star was still too old for her to end up with him at the end of the picture. lavenderblue19
Just guessing with this one, but your last clue reminds me of Shirley Temple/Ronald Reagan in MISS ANNIE ROONEY ???
starliteyes
Well, you got one third of it right. Shirley Temple is the actress and, although she did make a movie with Ronald Reagan, it wasn't "Miss Annie Rooney." It was "That Hagen Girl" and she did end up with him despite their age difference. Another hint - There was a third major star in this movie and she was the one who ended up with the leading man.
lavenderblue19
Oh, and yes I meant that Hagen Girl-LOL (it was 6:00 am this morning) LOL - Shirley, Cary Grant and THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY SOXER ???
starliteyes
You got it! As a footnote to the incident, after Shirley apologized Cary Grant told her that it was actually a pretty good imitation. It's all yours, Lavender.
lavenderblue19
Good question starlit next This actor was a nobody and given a starring role in a film. The film bombed, and he rhen appeared in less than stellar roles until close to 10 years later. In that film, almost 10 years later after that film that bombed, he had the leading role and that made him a star. He became a legendary actor. Who was he, name the film he bombed in and the film that made him a star ???
starliteyes
I'm guessing that it's John Wayne and the 2 films were "The Big Trail" and "Stagecoach."
lavenderblue19
Correct Starlit. You probably also watched RO and Scott Eyman discuss John Wayne and his roles in The Big Trail and Stagecoach. Good work, your thread
starliteyes
No, lavender, I didn't see that discussion. I was just taking an educated guess. I knew that John Wayne had played small roles for many years before "Stagecoach" made him a star, and I also knew that he had starred in "The Big Trail" almost 10 years before, although I didn't know that it had bombed. Anyway I just put 2 & 2 together and took a chance. I'm at work right now and don't have anything, so the thread's open.
starliteyes
Okay, I've got one. This movie ended, literally, on a high note by an actress. Unfortunately the note was flat and had to be re-dubbed by someone else. Name the movie and the actress.
starliteyes
Looks like it's time for another hint. This was an "all-star" movie with several different directors.

Terrence1
Thanks, Starlit. I had heard that before about Ms. Grayson, but had forgotten. That's hard to believe because she had a lovely voice and could really hit the high notes. But nobody is perfect. Now back to the game.
