Thanks Karma

The role this actress played in this golden age classic film, called for her to show her great wealth. She was lent a fortune in jewels for the role. Besides full insurance coverage, there was an armed guard with 2 guns who was with her at all times. she was even followed into the powder room. The actress was a good sport about it and even commented "they at least picked a good-looking one". Actress and the film ??

First guess: Just thinking of a title that would fit this question, the one that comes to mind is "The Locket." Would the actress be Laraine Day?

Sorry, that's not the film and it's not the actress.

The director made the actress do the final scenes over and over even though he said and the crew said it was great. Director was a perfectionist. when the director left the set for a few minutes, the crew complained to the actress telling her the scene was great and here was no need to the scene again. She replied that she trusted the director and wanted to do the scene again and again making it the best it could be. Director and crew loved her and highly respected her.

SORRY WRONG NUMBER with Barbara Stanwyck?

Exactly Arturo. Sorry Wrong Number and it was Barbara Stanwyck. Edith Head made the first comment about the jewels and Barbara and director Anton Litvak made the second comment about Barbara and the final scene. Everyone connected with the film had the most glowing things to say about Barbara Stanwyck it seems. The jewels Barbara wore in the film were all real and fabulous, heavily insured and an armed guard with 2 guns stayed with her thru out filming and as emotional and difficult as her last scene in the film was, she wanted it perfect and was willing without complaint to do the scene over and over to satisfy Anton Litvak. Thanks and good thinking Arturo. Your thread :)

This film starts off with a funeral scene of an important man.  One of the principals recalls events a few years earlier, kicking off the scenario.  The dead man is the patriarch of well-to-do family.  The flashback is done from the pov of his daughter.  She recalls the strained relationship of her parents.  Her ambitious mother tries to have her husband elected to political office.  She is aghast at the choices her teenage children are doing.

The parents are played by a Hollywood superstar as the father, and a critically acclaimed actress as the mother.  Although popular for a couple of decades, she never quite made it to the front rank of stars.  Several up and coming juveniles were featured.

The daughter is secretly married to a musician, who got her pregnant.  Political Cronies of her father threaten the guy, who annuls the marriage.  The daughter miscarries, and finding out about her father's involvement, leaves and moves to New York.

Sorry Starliteyes; this is not the movie.  Good try.

Another clue:  the young woman with whom the older man is having an affair is a friend of the man's daughter.

Arturo, please give another clue, maybe trivia about the film might help Thanks

During the course of the relationship, the older man gives the younger woman a piece of jewelry, a family heirloom.  When he meets some of her friends, the friends assume he is her father.  The man realises the situation won't work.

The reason why the father allowed himself to get involved with the young woman was due to his withdrawing from his political campaign.  His wife was so upset he upset her plans that she confesses she had had an affair with a mutual friend.  The husband becomes bitter, starts to drink heavily, and goes to New York, where he meets the young girl.

YIKES! I smacking my forehead, of course this is 10 North Fredrick starring Gary Cooper. I haven't seen this one in decades, but it just dawned on me this must be the film!

Lavender you are correct!  10 NORTH FREDERICK is the film.  Starring Gary Cooper, with Geraldine Fitzgerald as his wife, supermodel Suzy Parker as the you G woman with whom he has the affair, and Diane Varsi as his daughter.

FYI.  It has been showing recently on the Fox Movie Channel.

Great job; your turn

Thanks Arturo, I'll lookout for the film  :)

next

Call it life imitating art, while making a film, the 2 leads became close friends. The husband of one of the leads was on the set while filming and became very jealous of their friendship. Film, the 2 leads and the husband ????
