lavenderblue19
This will probably do down pretty quickly. When 1/2 of this well known very successful partnership was over due to the passing of one them, the other was plagued by financial troubles because of the IRS. He was forced to sell everything including his home. Besides the sad situation, when he appealed to their fans for help, he was ignored. They brought the world so much pleasure and are considered among the greats. Who was the one left behind to be treated so badly?
DownGoesFrazier
Bud Abbott?
lavenderblue19
Bud Abbott is correct. They were both hounded by the IRS. But when Lou died they went after Bud for 750,000 K. Besides his homes and possessions he was also forced to give up his share of profits to films they had done. He begged his fans to help to no avail. He was not a well man he suffered with cancer, epilepsy and strokes. A sad ending to 2 people who will always bring joy and laughter to the world. Your thread. MilesArcher
Three that come to mind are: Herbert Marshall appeared in both the 1929 and 1940 versions of "The Letter". In the 1929 version, he played the victim, and in the 1940 movie, he played the husband. Clark Gable starred in "Red Dust" in 1932, and in the remake "Mogambo" in 1952. Mickey Rooney played the young son in "Ah, Wilderness" in 1935, and he played the older son in the remake "Summer Holiday" in 1948.
DownGoesFrazier
Several others, including Miriam Hopkins, who was in THESE THREE and THE CHILDREN'S HOUR. Yours, Miles.
MilesArcher
Thanks. In "42nd Street", Dick Powell sings a song in a production number with a lot of dancers and a very pretty chorus girl. She does not sing. Who is the young lady and what is the name of the song? Hint: it is not the title song.
lavenderblue19
Total guess, although I love this film , it's been a few years since I've had the pleasure of seeing it. With all that said, Ginger Rogers is in the chorus and there is a tune called Pretty Girls ,could that be it?
MilesArcher
No, not Ginger, and not that song. The chorus girl was unbilled and had no lines of dialogue. Hint: Metz has posted her picture in the "Mugs" thread at least twice.
MilesArcher
Another hint: The chorus girl is very blonde. She was in a handful of movies in the thirties in bit parts. She became known as more of a socialite than an actress. The song starts with: Say, I know a bundle of humanity, She's about so high. And I'm being driven to insanity, When she passes by. She's a snooty little cutie, She's been so hard to kiss. I'll try to overcome her vanity, And then I'll tell her this....
MilesArcher
Here is her picture that was posted by Metz. Now, can you name her and the song from "42nd Street"? http://i56.tinypic.com/6nw6s6.jpg

MilesArcher
You got it, lavender. Here's a clip. By the way, Ginger Rogers and Una Merkel are among the dancers. Lavender, it's your thread.
lavenderblue19
Thanks Miles. This beautiful blonde actress with comedic ability probably would have been better off not taking her mom's advice. She had visions of a quiet school teachers life. Her mom pushed her to enter beauty contests and then she was discovered. She appeared in many films in a short amount of time including some famous comedies. Even with her fame, she would have had a better if not longer life had she stayed in Massachusetts. Can you name her and some of her famous films??? DownGoesFrazier
This movie was shot in the late-'40s. It co-starred an actor who was also known for his singing, a comic actor who had a been a member of a famous comedy team, and an actress who was known for a particular part of her anatomy. Everyone involved realized that it was terrible, so it was kept in the can for 3 years before it was released, and the planned title was changed to another title. Original title? Title upon release? Co-stars?
DownGoesFrazier
Hint: The film was finally released in 1951.
