DownGoesFrazier
Not that one. It's not Miller, and it's not Williams, so the playwright must be.......... The actor is much better-known than Rip Torn.......The Broadway appearance came before the film appearance. DownGoesFrazier
Another hint: prior to his first Broadway appearance (asked about, below) this actor had a minor role on a hit TV series.
MilesArcher
I hesitated to post this because I think one of the clues doesn't fit, but the rest of them certainly do. When I read the original post, I thought of Warren Beatty. He made his film debut in 1961 in "Splendor In The Grass", which was written by William Inge. A year earlier, he made his Broadway debut in "A Loss Of Roses", also written by William Inge, and he had a minor role in the TV show, "The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis". However, I don't think "Splendor In The Grass" had been a play. I believe that Inge wrote an original screenplay. If I'm wrong, then I guess I need another clue. DownGoesFrazier
A yeoman effort. You got it despite what was probably an inaccurate clue. I'll check on it, and I apologize if it was. Yours, Miles.
MilesArcher
Thanks. Some of the early Rin Tin Tin movies were written by a man who would go on to become the head of a Hollywood Studio. Who was he?
cujas
This guy was truly one of the Mega-genius of the Golden Age of Hollywood--his talent was boundless he started with the 42nd Street movies--and ended founding the legendary 20th Century Fox-- A very underrated studio--Fox contract player Henry Fonda called him Darryl ****Zanuck. But I think the F. really stood for Francis. Whatever we can thank him for alot--from Ty Power to Carmen Miranda with Shirley Temple and Marilyn in between. cujas
Hint: George's rival in the movie was an English actor whose brother was a well-known star.
