DownGoesFrazier
Aside from THE FORTUNE COOKIE, those films are the only pre-'70 comedies that yielded a male acting Oscar winner.
lavenderblue19
Actor was nominated didn't win, he was thrilled to get the nomination that's why he sent the gifts and the fact that this film was and is Legendary.Correction has been made to the original question. btw, there's enough info for a complete answer, I'm not answering any more questions unless it's to the answer of the question posted name the Film and name the 2 actors. allaboutlana
I didn't answer before, because I couldn't remember who the comedian was, but the film and nominated actor were Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot. It just now came to me that it's Jerry Lewis, I think.
lavenderblue19
Absolutely Correct, Lana. Billy Wilder offered Jerry Lewis the role first in *Some Like It Hot* He turned it down and regretted it ever since. Jack Lemmon sent Jerry a box of chocolates once a year until he passed away. I watched a 2 hr. documentary on Jerry Lewis the other night. Absolutely fascinating. That's where the info came from. I love Jerry, but I'm so glad Jack took the role. Thanks for your complete answer, glad you remembered. Your thread, Lana

DownGoesFrazier
Hint: he turned down this supporting role for a starring role in another film.

CineramaRick
I believe it was Clifton Webb who turned down the supporting part in *The Band Wagon* to star in *Stars* *and Stripes Forever* (1952). Would have loved to have seen him in *The Band Wagon*.

DownGoesFrazier
There were 2 other big WB stars that James Cagney, surprisingly, only worked with once. Who were they, and what were the films?
FranklinPangborn
Bette Davis - Bride Came C.O.D. and I'll guess...Doris Day - Love Me Or Leave Me?
DownGoesFrazier
Not Doris. He also worked with her in THE WEST POINT STORY. This pairing was much earlier. (Bette is correct)

lavenderblue19
oakie, doakie. This superb actress was nominated 3 times for Oscars for the same type of roles. She won one of those Oscars. All 3 are very well known, loved films. Can you name her and the 3 films ???? Edited by: lavenderblue19 on Jun 23, 2012 2:06 PM

DownGoesFrazier
I think I remember that Gloria Grahame is related to a historical figure.
lavenderblue19
While it's true that Gloria did have royality in her background, she's not the one I'm thinking about. Gloria had 2 nominations including the Oscar she won. As I wrote this actress had 3 oscar nods including her win. clue: It's all in the name. Her famous historical relative and this actress share the same last name.
