Hedy Lamarr the most beautiful woman in films?

I looked at Hedy Lamarr and I'm sorry I just didn't see the most beautiful woman in films. I sat down and watched a couple of her films closely. I just don't see it.

She doesn't do anything for me, no sex appeal to me. I guess she felt my beauty is good enough, i don't have to do anything.

She looks old in some of her films, she looks to have a overbite, it doesn't look like she has much makeup on in most films, she looks like someone they took off the street and gave a million dollar makeover. But that's my opinion. Veronica Lake, Greta Garbo, Linda Darnell, Gene Tierney, and Lana Turner looks more beautiful then her, and I don't usually compare. But, everyone has their favorite girl. But I just had to say I didn't see the most beautiful woman in films, she's attractive though. I think someone over publicized her. I guess it was a publicity stunt. But most agree with me that she wasn't the most beautiful woman in films.

No wonder they voted Ann Sheridan over Hedy Lamarr for the name "oomph" girl, Hedy didn't have no "oomph."

Some feel they have to call her the most beautiful woman in films because that's the title they gave her, but I'm not. Ann Sheridan over her any day.

msladysoul if it was your intent to hit a big nerve with your Hedy Lamarr post and the things you said about her...you have succeeded.

I for one happen to think that Lamarr was one of the most beautiful women in the world.

However I do respect your preferences since beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I wasn't trying to stir anything. Others post their opinion. I just don't find her the most beautiful woman in the world, what's beautiful about her? You haven't see every beautiful woman in the world, you haven't seen me or others? so how do you know she's the most beautiful, besides she's dead, so do you mean she's the most beautiful dead woman?

what's beautiful about her? no one has ever been able to tell me what?

She's just cold, no sex appeal, maybe she thought she was acting. Maybe if she gave me something more I would find her beautiful. Linda, Veronica, and Rita wasn't the best actress but they knew how to "work it" on screen.

Most people who aren't very attractive are jealous and find her beautiful.

Compare to the other beauties of her time, she'll have to be last on my list. Linda Darnell, Rita Hayworth, she couldn't stand with them. I rather look like Linda Darnell or Rita Hayworth anyday. Even Garbo had sex appeal. Marlene Dietrich especially. They look better then her on their worse day. I'm not a big fan of Ava Gardner, but I'll put her over Hedy.

I lossed respect for Hedy when she was half nude in that movie, she's not much of a lady, she showed me then she's not so beautiful and what she would do for a role. You all may find it sexy, but I didn't.

Well when I see every beautiful woman in the world, then I'll be able to say if she is or isn't.

msladysoul hold it! Don't be so hot to trot.

If you READ my post I wrote Lamarr WAS one of the most beautiful women in the world. And I am not talking about a dead woman (may she rest in peace). And I did write that I RESPECT your preferences. Open your eyes and don't always be so quick to draw blood.

And for your information I have seen hundreds perhaps thousands of beautiful women in my lifetime and I still believe that Hedy Lamarr outshines them all.

By the way I'm glad that I didn't get the chance to see you.

I'm not so ready to draw blood, I know everyone has their favorite on screen. Don't get so mad when someone has their opinion about your favorite star. I know your probably glad to not see me because I would prove you wrong about Hedy Lamarr. But then again everyone has their taste.

Oh, you've seen thousands of beauties, sure, just as false as hedy being the most beautiful woman in films. Beauty is rare, not everyone is beautiful.

I'm not saying Hedy isn't pretty. I just felt she didn't do much but be plain-faced on screen, maybe she felt she was acting. In the time she came on screen, maybe she was the most beautiful woman in films at one point, but not long after her arrival when other beauties came they outshined her obviously because they didn't call her the most beautiful woman anymore. Her popularity didn't last long on screen, because others out did her.

Maybe if she was around today, I would think she was beautiful, because there are no real beauties on screen today.

msladysoul -- You really seem to have a problem with Hedy Lamarr, don't you? Louis B. Mayer called her "the most beautiful girl in the world" and MANY agreed with him (myself included). I modeled for awhile in my twenties so I've been around many beautiful women who I feel didn't hold a candle to Hedy! Oh, and your comment about her being a "dead woman" was just tasteless and crude. Just because she is no longer with us doesn't change the fact that she was breathtakingly beautiful. I fully understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I'm not trying to convince you to change your mind about Ms. Lamarr. I do feel however that your post was rather harsh.

Msladysoul, you wrote that she didn't wear a lot of make-up and then right after that you said she looked like someone they gave a million dollar makeover too.I might be reading that the wrong way but it seems somewhat contradictory.

To me the most beautiful women that I know or have seen are those who DON'T require much make-up, but that too most likely is just my personal opinion.

I do think Hedy was beautiful, although I may not go as far to say the most beautiful.

I should just ignore this thread, but oh well!

>>But most agree with me that she wasn't the most beautiful woman in films.

If it's such a generally accepted truth, what's the reason for this thread?

>>...she [Hedy] looks to have a overbite...

Huh? Ya mean like Gene Tierney's?

>>...it doesn't look like she [Hedy] has much makeup on in most films...

She didn't need it! :D That's the true test of beauty.

>>Most people who aren't very attractive are jealous and find her beautiful.

Confusin' yet amusin'

>>besides she's dead, so do you mean she's the most beautiful dead woman?

What's the importance of the living/dead distinction in this topic?

>>You haven't see every beautiful woman in the world...so how do you know she's the most beautiful...?

There's no need to've seen every beautiful woman in the world when you believe Hedy's beauty to've been absolute, the highest possible. ;-)

>>what's beautiful about her?

As I see it, everything! The utter perfection of her face--the eyes, the nose, the mouth, the jaw line, the cheek bones, the forehead, the profile...so elegantly and supremely proportional. Her hair, for another thing. Her body--every curve pleasing. Oh, what a creation!

Is Hedy Lamarr more beautiful than...

...Veronica Lake? In my eyes, yes!

...Greta Garbo? In my eyes, yup!

...Linds Darnell? In my eyes, oh yeah!

...Gene Tierney? In my eyes, you betcha!

...Lana Turner? In my eyes, that's an affirmative!

...Ann Sheridan? In my eyes, very much so!

...Rita Hayworth? In my eyes, undoubtedly!

...Marlene Dietrich? In my eyes, by a longshot!

...Ava Gardner? In my eyes, most certainly!

...Vivien Leigh? In my eyes, definitely! (msladysoul didn't mention this one; I'm adding it)

Well, has anyone who read this thread been convinced of anything they didn't already hold to be true? I really doubt it. That's okay.

Here's something I'd like to point out that I just noticed; ya see my 11:28pm posting down there? Well, it was about the same time on that day (March 18) last year that I made my first post here on the TCM boards! One year of Antar. Thanks for putting up w/me...y'all suffer so beautifully--ya hardly complain! ;-)

antar - you're a pleasure on the boards - you shake things up which is cool.

Personally I don't understand msladysoul - and it's not just the grammar - I also don't understand why this topic even came up. Instead of stating that Hedy is NOT the most beautiful woman in films, why don't you just say who you think IS? Why the attack on Hedy?

In my opinion, Hedy was ONE of the most beautiful women in films, right up there near the top of the list, alongside Rita Hayworth and Elizabeth Taylor. That's my opinion, and as you can see I stated it in a rather civil way, which is something you might want to try doing next time.

Thanks, moviejoe! I have absolutely no problem if someone's opinion differs from mine, but I just don't get why msladysoul had to slam someone as she did, that's the only thing that bothered me.

Moviejoe and others, If you don't like what I write don't read it.

It's good to see others who think she isn't the most beautiful in the world.

You right she had no oomph, oomph means hot, sexy, irrestible, always having that extra appeal

bggalaxy, I know you don't mean Elizabeth Taylor, but Elizabeth was a beauty in her younger days. She had the perfect face and her sex appeal was wowing.

Even though I'm not a fan.

No I don't have a problem with Hedy, I just have a problem when others are put over others when they haven't seen the rest. Well, L.B. Mayer thought all his girls were beautiful, especially if he could get them in bed.

All the beauties of the golden era were lovely, but I'm just saying. Hedy just is too plain and dull for me. She lack that wow. Maybe she wasn't as sexy as others because she felt she was a good actress and didn't need to do that, maybe she felt she was being classy and sophisticated, but maybe if she would have been more wowing, she would of lasted longer. She lacked that extra oomph for me, she wasn't as sexy and sultry for me like Lana Turner, Joan Crawford, Dietrich, Harlow, Bow, Veronica Lake, Sheridan, Linda Darnell, Rita Hayworth, though most weren't great actresses, they still have sexiness and sultry to get them by and it made them look like they were good actresses and beautiful. Not meaning to offend anyone.

I wish she was as beautiful on the inside and she was on the outside.

That does it! I'm sick to death of people who post outrageous messages at this site, and then have the gall to tell us that if we don't like it to not read it, or to leave the Forum! Screw that attitude! This is a "message board"....people come here to read! I do not appreciate being told that I'm not welcome to read whatever I open.

Msladysoul, your comments about Hedy Lamarr were far beyond the scope of "personal opinion"...they were much, much closer to a personal attack, and even though much of what you said was so twisted that it didn't even make any sense, that "attack" came through loud and clear. If you dislike Hedy Lamarr to the degree that you feel it's necessary to bash her as you have here, then I pity you. If you had to mention her, wouldn't it have been enough to have just said that you don't find her to be as attractive as many other people do, and leave it at that? Was it really all that necessary to slam her as you did, as if "beauty" is the only thing that matters about Hedy Lamarr? She also happened to be a very decent actress, or has that also been lost on you?

You also need to understand that if you post here with a chip on your shoulder as large as the one you've presented in this thread, you can bet that people here will step up and relieve you of it's burden. You seem to have a fairly decent knowledge about Hollywood stars, therefore I hope to see much better posts from you than this one in the future. ML

>>You right she had no oomph, oomph means hot, sexy, irrestible, always having that extra appeal

I think you're addressing my comment. I was not in agreement with you that she lacked "oomph," quite the contrary, I only jumped on a grammatical error. I shouldn't have to explain it.

>>Well, L.B. Mayer thought all his girls were beautiful, especially if he could get them in bed.

I resent this remark! No, you didn't directly say it, but you suggested L.B. slept with Hedy. There is no shred of evidence you could ever produce that would show this ever happened. Hedy insisted she never slept w/anyone to further her career and said it might've been one of the factors that limited her career.

>>I wish she was as beautiful on the inside and she was on the outside.

**** are you talking about? Does she really seem so wretched to you???
