arslongavitabrev
this one's been bugging me for days; i'm glad i just found the boards here to ask. i seem to recall that there are 3 versions of The Children's Hour. One with Shirley MacLaine, James Garner, and Audrey Hepburn(?); one with deHavilland or Fontaine and Merle Oberon (???)-- the one where Bonita Granville is so superb; and a third, possibly earlier version... sigh. i hate when this happens. venerados
I think there's just the two, plus the stage version.
professorecho
There is indeed a version with Bonita Granville from 1935 entitled THESE THREE, directed by William Wyler and starring Miriam Hopkins, Merle Oberon and Joel McCrea. Outside of that and THE CHILDREN'S HOUR, 1961, also directed by Wyler, I know of no other version.
bansi4
There were only two versions based on Lillian Hellman's hit play "The Children's Hour". "These Three" with Joel McCrea, Miriam Hopkins and Merle Oberon which didn't include the lesbian connection. "The Children's Hour" with Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine which did include the lesbian connection. Perhaps your also thinking of the play which begot the two film versions.
