arslongavitabrev
that was one fine film that i'd never seen. Kay Francis was some piece of work as the wife. i enjoyed it totally, especially Carole Lombard in a serious role.
moviejoe79
Yes, "In Name Only" is a forgotten gem, and contains perhaps the best dramatic roles of Carole Lombard and Cary Grant's careers. The whole film is very well done, too bad it doesn't get mentioned more. It never seems to be on anyone's favorites list, or considered a "great" classic. brackenhe
I hope you won't let Kay's performance in this film deter you from checking her out in other films. She was a delightful actress and played equally well in comedy & drama. I just love her & only discovered who she was in the last 10 years (I guess since TCM went on the air)
bansi4
Heck, it was Kay's performance that made the movie interesting. Like Robert Osborne said she almost steals the picture. She played a woman we love to hate. In real life she was a close friend of Carole Lombard's and I believe it was Carole who coaxed her into the role. bggalaxy
For me, seeing Kay in this film (my first exposure to her) made me want to watch her other stuff. She's great!
feaito
I'll tape it for sure...it's a very adult film...and it has excellent performances by Kay Francis as the bitchy wife...and Carole Lombard and Cary Grant, as the couple who fall honestly in "true" love.... harlowkeatongirl
I love Carole Lombard. It's so sad how she died. I always think about that when I see her so young and vital onscreen.
busterchaney
Regarding Kay Francis... I love that line from Cabaret (you know, set in the 30's -- Kay Francis' heyday) when Liza Minnelli puts on that fur coat and then purrs, "Ooh, I feel just like Kay Francis." It makes me laugh every time because if you've seen a lot of Kay Francis movies she's always draped in fur, either a full-length coat or collar-lined jacket. feaito
Also regarding Kay Francis I'd like so much to watch "One Way Passage" with her and William Powell....never seen it....it's said that it's a true classic...She was terrific in "Trouble In Paradise"
brackenhe
Feaito--you must check out "One Way Passage." It's great. I watched the remake with George Brent & Merle Oberon about a month ago but it was nearly as good. How can you go wrong with both Kay & William Powell? brackenhe
I meant to say the remake WASN'T nearly as good, not nearly as good. There weren't two people in films with less charisma than Brent & Oberon. But I guess they must have been hot at one time or they wouldn't have remade this film with them. feaito
Sadly I only taped Till we meet again...is just the same with between two worlds-1944...i'd love to watch the original Outward Bound, from 1930, although critics say the 1944 version is better....or I'll never forget you (1951)...never seen Berkeley Square-1933
bansi4
I thought Merle Oberon did a good job in "'Til We Meet Again" as the gravely ill passenger. She convinced me that she was very much in love with George Brent knowing her eventual fate. Mongo
moviejoe79
I've also read about "One Way Passage" being a great movie that unfortunately is forgotten. Hopefully TCM will show it sometime, like they did with "Trouble in Paradise" after we begged them for years (well, at least I did).
