Does anyone know the title of this movie?

I watched a movie with my mother when I was a kid and she still talks about this movie, but we have no idea what the title was or even who was in it. I remember that there was a lady in this movie that had two great danes and she called them "Get off the rug, and you too". My mother said she remembered that there was a man in the movie that was a writer. He was driving and his car broke down and he walked to a house to get help. The people at the house thought he was there for the butler job, so he stayed and worked for them. This is all I know about this movie. If anyone knows the name of it my mother and I would love to know what it is.

Is it "Sitting Pretty" with Clifton Webb playing Mr. Belvedere? I don't remember the Great Dane part but he does go to work for a family and I think he's a writer.

Whew! This sounds familiar. I know Van Johnson did a movie called THE BRIDE GOES WILD where he was a writer who pretended to be someone else, but I don't think it was a butler.

 

Also has some of the elements of MY MAN GODFREY with William Powell and Carole Lombard.
