What movies had great pop hit songs that you liked ?

Recommended Posts

I agree with you about The Theme From A Summer Place! It was so evocative of that particular generation. Kudos to Percy Faith.

Another beautiful song was Speak Low (when you speak love...) from One Touch of Venus. Gorgeous!

Oh and (I almost forgot) "Invitation" - that beautiful theme from the movie Invitation and also, Lana loved it so much that it became the theme in her movie (forgive me, I've forgotten the name of it) abt a model who falls in love with a married man played by Ray Milland.

"Downtown" was featured in GEORGY GIRL? Didn't know that. Is it sung by Petula Clark? I also like the obvious tunes from The Beatles films. Who doesn't? A number of the Bond films had catchy theme songs. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE is the prettiest. What about Dean Martin singing "Purple Skies" in RIO BRAVO? I doubt it was a hit record. But I like it. There's Elvis, of course. A shocking number of those songs are losers. But "Jailhouse Rock" is hot. "Viva Las Vegas."

The wonderful Dusty Springfield had a hit with "The Way of Love." Isn't that from a movie? COUNTESS OF HONG KONG? And that Disney. More toe-tappers than I can take the time to list.

I have some old albums from Andy Williams and others where they do nothing but movie songs. You can go back to "Tender Is The Night", "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" and "Moon River."

Themes like "Midnight Cowboy" and "Summer of '42" and "Romeo and Juliet." Someone mentioned "Live and Let Die" but the whole Bond franchise specialized in producing hit songs.

One of my favorite songs is from "The Last Time I Felt Like This" from "Same Time, Next Year."

> Sometimes the most memorable part of a film is a song. I really liked (aside from the camp fun) Dionne Warwick's Valley of the Dolls theme.

What, you didn't prefer that Dory Previn song about planting a tree that Susan Hayward sang in front of the ridiculous mobile? ;-)

The movie may be crap, but there's a lot of good music in *Xanadu*

I've completely lost my mind. "The Way of Love" was not by Dusty Springfield, nor was it from COUNTESS FROM HONG KONG. The song from that film was "This Is My Song." It was recorded by Petula Clark. How I formed this mistaken impression I have no idea!

I thought you might be thinking of "The Look of Love" which was indeed sung by Dusty Springfield in Casino Royale (the one from the 60's not the one from last year.) I love that song and she does a great job of it. She had a helluva voice.
