slappy3500
Tuesday nite I saw 2 classics that I had never seen previously: "The Good Earth" and "An American in Paris." Both were great but unfortunately the changes from the novel in the later part of "Earth" weakened the theme of "the earth abides." And O-Lan was NOT "the good earth." However "AAIP" was a revelation. I LOVED the performances by Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Oscar Levant, and Nina Foch. Such likeable characters! Kelly's dance numbers were great as always. I HATE to see ballet though. I can't stop thinking how PAINFUL it must be. And of course the Gershwin tunes. "Nuff said"
moviejoe79
Slappy - I'm surprised you never caught "American in Paris" before. But I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed it. I'm not a big fan of ballet either because I just find it boring - but the finale number in "Paris" knocks me out every time. It was so brilliantly done that ANYONE can enjoy it, because aside from the dancing, there's the incredible music, photography, and direction.
