It showed at least a couple of times in the last month on the Fox Movie Channel, too. I wasn't crazy about it but it was nice to see Ben and Dobe! :x

Here are two other photos that I recently got. I don't know why the top one has a smeary look, my husband scanned it for me, and maybe left the plastic on? Not sure. The second one is an original photograph, signed by Ben and is the most wonderful, happy picture of him I have ever seen:

Ben Johnson black hat portrait

autographed Ben Johnson kneeling portrait

What an absolutely beautiful man.......

Aren't they beautiful? You did click the thumbnails to see them in large size, right?

13 and 4/5 seconds. That calf never knew what hit her. I can relate..... I think that's all the time it took for him to rope and hogtie my heart. :)

I wasn't able to post yesterday morning to tell you how much I loved the article

and pix---wouldn't they be great if they were matted and framed and hung on

the wall in succession? Terrific. Now that's a cowboy.

I'm so glad to see you! I was getting worried.....

The roping article is actually only a center spread of two pages - I couldn't scan it that way because it was too big, so I took each photo and blew it up, then posted it that way, so you could see all the pictures really well. In some ways, it makes more of an impact on two pages, because you can see the stop motion movement as he leaps off of his horse and ropes the calf....

This is sort of what it looked like (or as close as I can approximate it without stretching the page. The right side of the first page is cut off:

I would like to blow up the beautiful, smiling, crouching Ben to poster size and hang it up in our bedroom, but I don't think Mr. Favell would like that very much. Ben has turned me back into a thirteen year old girl....

Hi Jackie,

I tried to make a little animated thingy out of those pictures, but it keeps

cropping off the right side of the picture, cutting off Ben. I'm sorry.

Awww! I was thinking yesterday of bumping up the last one so I can look at it again.....

I don't know what Andrew must think of me. It's terrible.... every time he walks into the room, I am watching a Ben Johnson movie....or looking at Ben pictures, and the poor thing actually had to help me scan these pictures of his rival....he should be very relieved that Ben is no longer with us... :)

a little more Ben. I enlarged it, so it's not as sharp as it could be. But, we'll take what we can get.

JackF and Miss G - I do believe we have gathered enough photos to make a Ben calendar! For personal use only, of course.

Ha ha! I just can't keep out of trouble. I must be hanging around with a bad crowd.... :)

I have to say, Ben looks mighty good to me in those pics even if he is evil.

OK, I guess it's time to bring out the odds and ends.

This is that italian blog I was telling you guys about. All sorts of interesting pics, just can't figure out what they are talking about. Scroll down past Farrah for pics of Wayne and Ford stuff. Sure do wish I could read italian:

Cinemafan, I think you posted this one already Heck! You probably gave me all of this stuff! I just have a very poor memory:

Ben's family, carrying on the tradition:

The NY Times obituary:

This is a section from *The Cowboy Encyclopedia*. After clicking to get to the link, there is a short anecdote about Ben Johnson, Sr. halfway down on the right side of *page 50*.

Then hit *next* at the top of the page. You will then be on *pg. 210*. There is a partial entry about Ben Sr. and Ben Jr. and life on the Chapman Barnard Ranch.

Here is a tantalizingly edited chapter from a book called The Real Wild West. There is some stuff about Yakima Canutt, Elizabeth Taylor (who knew?!) but not much about Ben and his dad. I think I have to get this one now, just to read what's on the missing page:

Sorry to inundate you with all these tidbits, but this is everything I have found over the past couple of months and if I wait, I will forget what I have already posted. Enjoy at your leisure!

JackF. Thanks for adding those odds and ends. I love reading the Italian translations of movies.

El Bruto and such.

You're not going to believe this, but I have that very book *The Real Wild West* - I checked it out from the library last week, because in the index, there was an entry on Ben. I will try to type it up

tomorrow and post. The book is about the 101 Ranch in Oklahoma and great reading.

Jackie,

You'll be glad to know that there is a street named after Ben Johnson in Las Vegas. Also John Wayne and Randolph (cue chorus) Scott have streets named after them there, too.

Is it just the street name? (No statues, plaques, or anything else to pay tribute to them?)

I think it's wonderful, even if it is just a street name, that they'd pay homage to some of the true legends of the West.
