mutinyetc
I'm thinking of starting to record with vhs off tcm soon so whats the best brand of blank tapes? I was thinking of sony. Also, are we going to have another SUMMER UNDER THE STARS this year, I really hope so because I would start recording with that so I can separate and label each tape by the actor. Please write back and I will appreciate any and everything. Thank you.
musclephoto2
My opinion is to use the top brand recommended by the manufacturer of your VCR. I find TDK and MAXELL work very well for me. I just taped something from cable for a friend and she marked in email of the high quality of the tape.

kenwal34
Also, along with top quality tape, record in the SP MODE,not EP. You get more time with EP,but picture quality is not as good.
classicsfan1119
When in SP mode, just make very sure that the movie you're recording doesn't run over two hours if you don't want to lose any minutes of film over that amount of time. ;)ML
mutinyetc
Thank you for all the help but can you keep on using the whole 6-hour tape as long as you do each program 2-hours?
kenwal34
While it may be possible,I wouldn't try to get three two hour films on a six hour tapes. Different VHS machines vary in recording speeds.Sometimes its trial and error in the recording process.Bottom line is this.If you are interested in quality picture and sound use the SP mode for films under two hours. There are many good films on TCM that run ninety minutes or less. For longer films use the EP mode.
